  • Hey i play union in ireland im only 15 and ive already had 2 dislocations i was just wondering how long do you think is an appropiate time to return if is used this tapong method just to finish the season? Thanks.

  • This is a brilliant video.I play semi professional rugby and some physios we have doing strapping in certain games are a disaster and literally haven't a clue how to strap a shoulder. There should be more of these kind of videos on youtube.

  • @wigsa Cheers mate, get them to watch this method, we have been using many different techniques over the years and have found this way to be way more effective than any other. I've worked with england and south africa national teams as well as the reds in queensland, they all switched to this way after trialing it

  • I tore my labrum and had surgery but it was a partial tear again and is shifted forward.

  • how can you tape it across the front of the chest if it is on a woman?

  • @0rngeJuice, yeah you can, but you have to do it a bit differently, with the anchors, you need to go either side of the breast, and just onto the top of the breast as well, and when you overwrap it, you need to go around a bit higher on the chest, it is not as comfortable or effective, but we have never had any player re-injured while taped, and the girls were very happy with how secure it felt, but you do have to get a bit personal while taping.

  • awesome video there budd really helpfull gotta put it to the test on my next game thought i was gonna have to stop playing, what sizes and make up is the tape you use please?

  • @Tpatriot7 Hey mate, the brown tape is a 1 1/2" rigid premium sports tape. the over wrap is a elastic adhesive bandage(3").

  • hi i've got a torn labrum and waiting for an op; will taping my shoulder up enable me to play? would you recommend it? also, does it mean that if i did play i wouldnt be able to tackle too hard?

    cheers

  • @ystuk , I can't gaurentee anything mate, but we did have a player with a torn labrum that played out the season with this taping method, and he was a front rower, he had no problem tackling or scrummaging, he just wanted to get through the year before the re-con post season.

  • @rugbynut65 cheers for the advice, i played a few games with it strapped and it felt ok actually. ironically i dislocated my other shoulder so i guess its something inherent in my shoulders. i've had the original labral tear repaired surgically 2 weeks ago, it was torn from the 2 o'clock to 6 position, i had some sinovitis in the capsule. the glenoid neck was also rasped as it had been squared off a bit from the dislocations. i had 3 anchors put in to reattach my labrum, no signs of SLAP tears

  • ironically im watching this video b.c im playing rugby for the first time and my shoulder is super sore and very weak right now, and i dont want to dislocate it.

  • it would be nice to have a unlimited tape supply, great vid.

  • @TheOzlander we have a budget of $8000, we have 13 teams that we tape each weekend, that's including 3 colts teams and 1 womens team, as you go down the grades, as the impacts and intensity lessens, there seems to be less tape used. but we just do these as a standard, some players like more or less tape as a personal preference

  • Is it worth just buying one of those reusable straps? The tape isn't that cheap

  • @Nand0s1 up to you mate, we use about a 3rd of a roll of rigid tape and a roll of EAB to overwrap it, a roll of each is about $5 so to tape a shoulder like this will cost about 7-8 dollars, a shoulder re-co will set you back about $9000, the shoulder slingsstart around $70 for something decent, but it still wont restrict as good as tape if properly applied, I'm just showing the best way that we have come up with to tape a shoulder, we have used many tape variations and slings.

  • Thanks for the info and a great video my shoulder felt really secure thanks a lot!!!!! :)

  • Hi rugbynut65 I play rugby and is this method of strapping a shoulder up a very good solution for an anterior dislocation ( I think anterior is for a front dislocation correct me if I'm wrong) as I have dislocated my shoulder once. Also what type of tapes do u use as I would like to try it out thank you :)

  • @arichie5016 hey mate, sorry for the late reply, yes, you are correct, it is for anterior dislocation, you can do a very similar taping if the problem in posterior, but as this is much lower percentage, I didn't bother. the tape to use is a rigid strapping tape 38mm wide, you can get this at most chemists or even supermarkets, the overwrap tape is an elastic adheshive bandage. Cam

  • Is there actual strapping tape glue you can purchase? I can't seem to source any from any where. Every Chemist i've seen has never even heard of any one using glue to help keep the tape there.

  • @munkeymel , sorry, I'm late replying, there are many different types and brands of tape adhesive, we just use a cheap ball grip at our club, but if you get online there are a few, are you in australia? if so I can send you a couple of links to websites where you can get whatever you need. cam

  • for sure, that is what we're trying to do, to stop dislocation when in anterior rotation. if you have had 2 dislocations, you should see a doctor first to check to see if you have a bankarts lesion, this is when the labrum is torn as the head of the humorous dislocates from the glenohumeral joint.

The tape that I use is a rigid sports tape, and then over the top of that is an elastic adheshive bandage style tape, the glue that we use is just a cheap ball grip, but it works fine.

  • hi..

i do Brazilan Jiu Jitsu and my shoulder has dislocated to times.will this help me.

and also what is the tape called and that glue??where can i buy it??

  • I never knew shoulders could be taped before till I saw this video.

  • @ parathesia, no it doesn't, as long as you make then take a big breath and keep the tape, which is an elastic tape around the chest, low enough so as not to put too much pressure on the lats and pecs, you are only laying it on, not puting too much pressure on it as you go around.

@steveh1010, tape is more a mechanical means to stop a particular movement which will cause further injury, if you are just wrapping it up, I don't think that would make much difference, better off to go to a physio

  • @rugbynut65

  • I strained my anterior deltiod in the gym. Its been a nagging injury now for about 9 weeks, Would you suggest wrapping it. I just can't seem to shake this injury!! :(

  • hi nice video sir,but dont you think that this technique will effect the players chest expansion??

  • @87baumes87, yes, this is for preventing a dislocation in anterior rotation, if you dislocated posteriorly, you would do the sling back onto the bicep the opposite direction to limit movement that way

  • @rugbynut65 Hi there,

I have a game today and a few months ago I strained my AC joint in an anterior movement, would using this strapping technique be ok to use nonetheless?

    many thanks

  • @samafia1 .sorry I have probably been a bit late replying, I hope your game went well, but no is the easiset answer, this taping tecnique is for trying to stop dislocation of shoulders, for an AC strain, you really need to pull the collarbone back down into the Achromial clavicular head, that's where it normally sits, you can do this by starting much the same way as a shoulder, glue and stirrups over the shoulder, but pull down harder as you go over the collarbone, then pad it up and lock off

  • @rugbynut65 Thank you very much for your reply and advice. I used the dislocation strapping technique for now and it helped a substantial amount in the game, but il use the technique you described above from now on.

All the best from the UK!

  • is it good for me to prevent before dislocated my shoulder?i am hockey player..thanks..

  • Krissyporter, you've got a hairy chest? shave it, otherwise it will not really stick well. If, you have access to leuko tapes, you can use leukowrap, the glue doesn't come off the tape onto the body like some tapes do, they have a spray on tape adhesive too which is quite good.

  • @rugbynut65 Thanks, much appreciated! Yea I had an idea I was going to have to shave it. I had surgery for a dislocated shoulder (playing rugby) in September 2008 and going skiing this month which will be the first time i've really tried it out since the op. I've been doing the strengthening exercises etc but i'm going to tape my shoulder up for a bit of added security / peace of mind. Thanks for your help.

  • hi, i recently ordered toe leukotape combi pack for a shoulder dislocation taping from amazon. The flesh coloured tape seems like that rigid stuff you're using bus the white stuff foesnt seem like the EAB you're using in the video. Where would you recommend getting the adhesive gel to use before applying the tape - i've got a hairy chest unfortunately

    Thanks

    Great video!

  • Dimsim, sorry for the late reply, yeah you can use it for league as well, but there is another one that they use that is a bit more restrictive, it is like a band around the chest and then another around the bicep that they link into each other, you can't lift your arm up, but that's not as necessary in league as it is in union as you don't have lineouts

  • cool, i need this vid for a school assignment, for dislocating shoulders info-

can this technique be used for Rugby League, i have no clue if u can or not

    PLZ REPLY

  • @DimSimCard im assuming if its used for union it can be used for league.

  • very instructional. thanks.

  • Great vid!

    EAB = elastic? a... b...?

    cheers :]

  • very professional! Great job!
