@nneky100 It's interesting that the journal Nature found Wikipedia to be as accurate as Enclopedia Brittanica. The real utility for finding facts through Wikipedia comes from the more reliable sources that are frequently referenced in the Wiki article. Handy little research tool there.

I think to some extent, I am blowing this way out of proportion...I guess it would be fine referring to wikipedia on youtube...what disturbs me is that some folks will take it as the word of God.

I should have also noted that while Wiki is roughly as accurate as E.B. on scientific subjects, both are barely "B" students. To Wikipedia's credit, the site does have an entry on its own reliability.

The same people who take Wiki as "the word of God", are the same ones who believe everything that comes from popular media.

Politically, a pretty clever strategy by Obama and the Dems. GOP couldn't prevent Dems from creating the protection bureau, but if they filibuster appointing a head for it, and keep Congress in pro forma session so Obama can't recess appoint one, they've effectively blocked it. So Obama appoints one anyway, and if Republicans go on TV to whine about it somebody might actually NOTICE they've been blocking it, and ask them WHY they don't want average consumers to have financial protections.

The problem is that it wasn't technically in recess, and even if it was, the Dodd-Frank act states that the director must be senate-appointed (thus the gridlock in the first place).

"Up or down vote" Where have I heard that phrase before? It seems like somebody, somewhere wanted prompt votes confirming or denying appointments. Stalling instead of voting was undemocratic, it was unconstitutional, it was treasonous. Was it in the ancient Phoenician Empire? Was it in Rome? Or was it the last time a Republican president didn't get all of is fund-raising buddies approved instantaneously?

Yep, the best example of that was when George W. Bush appointed Sam Fox Ambassador to Belgium as a payoff for funding the 'Swiftboat Veterans for "Truth,"' without the help of which he probably wouldn't have won the 2004 election. The Dems blocked it, so The Shrub gave him a reccess appointment. After that the Dems refused to give Bush the chance to do that again by keeping the Senate in (pro forma) session permanently. Immitation is the sincerest form of flattery!
