@nneky100 It's interesting that the journal Nature found Wikipedia to be as accurate as Enclopedia Brittanica. The real utility for finding facts through Wikipedia comes from the more reliable sources that are frequently referenced in the Wiki article. Handy little research tool there.
@kaysandesses My argument isn't that Wikipedia has no truths, my argument is that it isn't reliable. referencing wikipedia takes away the credibility from any argument. I think to some extent, I am blowing this way out of proportion...I guess it would be fine referring to wikipedia on youtube...what disturbs me is that some folks will take it as the word of God.
@nneky100 I agree with you completely on all points. I should have made that clear in my earlier post. I should have also noted that while Wiki is roughly as accurate as E.B. on scientific subjects, both are barely "B" students. To Wikipedia's credit, the site does have an entry on its own reliability.
The same people who take Wiki as "the word of God", are the same ones who believe everything that comes from popular media.
WE ARE THE SAME RING CHAIN, BU something happened, (WANT TO MATERIALISM) NOW is Broken! Whiner, Losers. I am so proud of President Obama in all he is doing now. We all know what other presidents did in numbers of recess appointments and go to court he is the PRESIDENT an make an order an you better jump you pukelicants the do nothing GOP go screw yourselves...We won while you took a recess we did your job unlike you...You will never win the presidency with you pathetic candidates you have put up. It's just amazingly pathetic to have anyone of them an total embarassment also. SHAME
all the Repugs who say they hate "big government" when its programs to help disadvantaged folk but when its money on Military and arms attacking "nasty foreigners" its ok. Hypocrites- Romney , Santorum, Gingrich et al,
@sunnymarky The Repugs only hate "big government" at two times: 1. when they're not in power, and 2. when they can use it to force their talibangelist views on the entire nation.
Politically, a pretty clever strategy by Obama and the Dems. GOP couldn't prevent Dems from creating the protection bureau, but if they filibuster appointing a head for it, and keep Congress in pro forma session so Obama can't recess appoint one, they've effectively blocked it. So Obama appoints one anyway, and if Republicans go on TV to whine about it somebody might actually NOTICE they've been blocking it, and ask them WHY they don't want average consumers to have financial protections.
The problem is that it wasn't technically in recess, and even if it was, the Dodd-Frank act states that the director must be senate-appointed (thus the gridlock in the first place).
"Up or down vote" Where have I heard that phrase before? It seems like somebody, somewhere wanted prompt votes confirming or denying appointments. Stalling instead of voting was undemocratic, it was unconstitutional, it was treasonous. Was it in the ancient Phoenician Empire? Was it in Rome? Or was it the last time a Republican president didn't get all of is fund-raising buddies approved instantaneously?
Yep, the best example of that was when George W. Bush appointed Sam Fox Ambassador to Belgium as a payoff for funding the 'Swiftboat Veterans for "Truth,"' without the help of which he probably wouldn't have won the 2004 election. The Dems blocked it, so The Shrub gave him a reccess appointment. After that the Dems refused to give Bush the chance to do that again by keeping the Senate in (pro forma) session permanently. Immitation is the sincerest form of flattery!
Besides, Obama tried and tried, and Democrats did all they could to get Warren and Cordray fucking CONFIRMED, but you Republicans blocked it at every turn! What else could Obama do? He had no choice.
You wanna talk about "imperial" presidencies? HA! Bush was every bit as imperial and in many ways far more so. Yet they didn't bitch and complain. Bush recess-appointed neocon extraordinaire John Bolton to UN Ambassador. HIS appointment would've had a far more dangerous impact on America's security than the NLRB or CFPA's heads. Grow up, Republicans... This is obvious partisan hackery as usual. We can see right through you. Stop pretending to be 'principled.'
Republicans don't give a fuck about consumer protection or labor unions. They want you to be at the MERCY of banks and big business. THAT is the real reason why they're bitching about this! Obama finally one-upped them, and they're FURIOUS because they couldn't appoint Wall Street shills to these positions.
What the hell is the big deal about Obama actually appointing PRO-LABOR and PRO-CONSUMER regulators to boards that ARE SUPPOSED TO DO THAT?
The Senate Republicans have been at "recess" for 3 years. They seem to forget that once in office, they represent all Americans, not just the Republican ones.
ROFL I just heard Reagan did that recess. Anyhow republicans wanted to stop Obama from electing forever. Their reactions sometimes make me want to vote again for Obama... because it is so transparent they are corrupt.
Wait a minute. Just fucking hold the fuck on. Who the hell is that reasonable woman on FOX News? She made a good point about Reagan, and she talked about how maybe it's not so bad. What the fuck is she doing on FOX?
I don't know what she's doing on Fox, but I guarantee she'll be working for CURRENT TV tomorrow. Ouch...rookie mistake. Doesn't she know that only Shep Smith is allowed to ask real questions on Fox, and only then because he's got photos of Roger Ailes getting a tug job from Megyn Kelly.
The Fox "News" pukes are whining about a recess appointment..... I guess they've forgotten that GWB used the same tool to appoint Bolton as Ambassador to the UN over the objections of his own party.
People voted for Romney in Iowa because they think Ron Paul can't beat Obama in the debates. But if Ron Paul MUST start doing what Romney did, target Obama ALSO instead of just the other republican candidates to show that he CAN debate Obama. He isn't beating other conservatives just to prove that he is conservative, he is showing everyone that a libertarian candidate is a good thing.
If you agree, copy and paste! Pass this message on till Ron Paul or his campaign manager sees this!!!
