The idea of Zombie pigmen is a good one, but I think it would be more fitting if you had live pigmen aswell. IE: 1.8 update. For the meantime I prefer re-texturing the pigmen's skin into a ghostly semi-transparent default skin and changing the pigman sounds to human ones. It shows you arn't the first, or last player to roam the land of squares.

This is how I think Nether portals and the nether it self exists: Some one created a Invention to create other realms and be able to go to them. Then he created the Nether which is he thought he DID create which he DIDN'T create it. So he thought he was the leader of every creature there but when he said he was they tried to kill him. And they destroyed his invention so he spend days trying to see if there was a way to make a portal back to his realm. Which he then found the Nether portal.

@DrLeonSisk Well, as the song goes, you're stuck in the nether/dead.The character in my story, Jinx, finds your journal in a dungeon, along with other things that become important to the story, and leaves into a portal into the nether to find you. Then the main character has to go in to rescue him, when they really need him.

This should be the actual story for minecraft. Dr. Leon turned all other humans into

Pigmen and sent them to the nether, and the last human (You) Must gather the resources of the earth to find Dr. Leon at the coords 0, 0, 64 (The center of the nether) and battle him to avenge the remains of the humanity. (The ghasts guard his temple) He himself has not been killed by the pigmen, but has become a mutation of human, zombie, ghast, and pigman. (ran out of comment space)
