This is well out of date. Go to this YouTube title 2012 GT-R VS Corvette ZR1 @ Nurburgring and watch the new 2012 GT-R trash the ZR1 at the Nurburgring. The GT-R actually does a better lap time in the semi wet than the ZR1 does in the dry.

@Northax They did SportAuto took a European spec GTR to the ring and got a 7:38 and a 7:38 when they tested a Corvette ZR1... Just goes to show you that the car is more than able to beat anything Porsche make apart from the GT2 RS!!!
Notice how the guy in the ZR1 doesn't even hit 180 mph on the long straight? This ZR1 can easily hit over 200 mph, yet he chose to hover at 175 on the straight, and only went to 179 when he hit the downhill part! He held back some and still got a 7:26! If he pushed it harder, he could have got a 7:25 or even 7:24.

Personally, I'm seriously doubting the GTR is totally stock here. But how can one tell? They say each car is unique, so of course Nissan could have tuned this specific GTR to 600+ horsepower for all we know and still say it was "uniquely made, just like all other GTR's!". They did something to it that other GTR's that all others do not have, imo. Sorry, but that's just what I think. So 600+ hp, on FOUR WHEEL DRIVE, PLUS flappy paddles for quick shifts? Yeah, of course 6:29 on N-ring.

if you also look the trees have no leavs in the GT-r vid but thear is bright sun and leaves in the tree for the ZR1 possably heaver cooler air for the GT-r wear as the vet was in a dry summer heat in the afternoon the GTr was in the cool morning allong with reported head winds for the ZR1 it's not amazind the the GT-r could almost Keep up it's amazing that the ZR1 could battel mother nature and stomp the GT-r at the same time
When these 2 videos are synched, there is a 3 to 3 ½ second gap between the cars at that banner. The timers started and stopped at different areas in the start leading to the difference you see in this comparison.
I just would take any of them but the ZR1 has about 530 rwph while the GT-R has 400 awhp. Its a more advanced drivetrain and it has a great drag coeficient but the ZR1 is the power of the sound and pure lightweight-power muscle which you can drift.
well i dont know what to think. corvette couldnt have been pushin it hard because in the half second that it is faster than a gtr in the 1/4 its going 10mph faster already and it does 1.06 gs and a gtr only does .93 or .96. plus i belive that the vette raced after a week of rain and the gtr didnt. just saying what i heard. both amazing cars but i think both in the same good weather track days the gtr wouldnt handle the Z-R1. but a zo6 would be a good match i think
Keeping up with a ZR1 on a X amount mile long straightaway..come on. Go type in: Porsche tries to match GTR time at nurburgring: 2nd link down. Porsche's 'Ring expert were only able to perform a best lap of just 7:54 vs Nissan "claimed" 7:29. Also the ZR1 is 3 seconds+faster than the GTR on tracks that r only a few miles long. This track is 14 miles long & the ZR1 still only manages to be 3sec...hmmm..lol. riight..what a joke. Honestly I don't believe any posted times anymore from anyone.
The ring is such a popular place for proving cars because its just like a fast road. And being there road cars its good to know what car is fast on similar conditions. I couldn't give one if X car is so much quicker on a 50meter wide racing track. Means nothing in a road car! I've been to the n'ring countless times in my own car and until you have been you can never truely appreciate the diversity of the place.The times are all legit Max! If a handful of Porsche test drivers can't get within 20seconds of Nissan's claims, something is wrong; that or Nissan has driver's that will make Michael Schumacher look like a rookie. And he was just having a medium to fast test in the car. Not driving anywhere near 100% Every track test between a Turbo and GTR has seen the GTR win quite easily. Nissan's claim of 7:29.03 (don't believe it) sport auto's time of 7:39 (possibly believeable) & Porsches time of 7:54 so much of such a huge rang in times in a car with so many computer assistances, variable times in a Z06, ZR1,Viper, Ford GT or any other car with the less u fear it the faster u can go would be understanble but not such a user friendly car like the GTR.
I can't find the link to the autocar one. Chris harris from drivers republic took the GTR round against the GT2 on a really wet track and did a 7.55 This time is on the list of N'ring times. Hes a good driver but that time was in dangerous conditions and he couldn't go anywhere near the limit.Sport auto time is obviously legit. Independant test.Yes the 7.29 is fast but for someone who knows the car as well as there driver did 9 secs quicker is not that much over 14mile!
The video doesn't prove this. Im guessing you've seen plenty of beep, beep, beep racing from a roll vids and you'll understand if a car gets a little jump it takes awhile to get the lead back. Lets say the GTR is carrying 10mph more speed out of the last bend than the ZR1. Its going to take ages for the ZR1 to get the lead back. But it does quite easily and then loses its lead through braking from 180mph on the curves. Its where the GTR excells at!

Also if u pause it at 12-12.5sec u can clearly see the ZR1 is closer to the red billboard by maybe a half a second. Then pause again at 29-29.5 almost 30 seconds and u'll see in the top right portion of the ZR1's view a white barn/house; pause it dead on 30sec & it'll dead to the right side of the ZR1. Now look at the GTR's view press play what-d'ya know about the same time split. Bunk a** vid. 1 of 2 things either Nissan lies, or their test car' is putting way more than 431-436whp to the ground
I think you should be questioning why the ZR1 is not quicker TBH. I just read from that test between the GT2 and GTR that the GT2 peeked at 182mph on the straight on a really wet track. The GTR only managed 167 i think. But like said the rain had an effect on both of them speeds. in the video the ZR1 hits 176 before the climb where a slower GT2 hit 182. I did read that when the ZR1 tested there was a serious head wind. I can only imagine thats the case here because we both know the ZR1 is faster
Yeah well there's an idea that may play as a factor. Cuz honestly u can short shift, skip, suck at shifting & from a roll the ZR1 would pull, & pull a noticable amount even so & only get worse & worse as the race goes on. If a ZR1 can even walk on a GTR w/ a HKS-570 kit on it on the freeway with good driver ;-)
Not only that, but people keep wondering how the GTR has beaten the Porsche so badly and have been "keeping up" with the ZR1 at Nurburgring and it's because of it's AWD system controlled systematically by its fancy control system. Nurburgring is one of the most complex and tough race tracks of them all, full of crests and uneven like pavement all over the place. I heard that that lap record of only .3 slower than the ZR1 was run by the SpecV (don't know if that's true, though)..

@bobilator1 you don't think a car modded with a doubled pric tag should be able to make 3 second up lol $160,000 for a spec V thear is a hennasy 700ZR1 to answer it any mod On a gt-r can be done on a v8 cheeper and more effectively 80 grand for under a 100hp more and a couple hundred pounds less is a ripoff for 52,000 you can got to NRE and buy a 2500hp engine and have it mailed to your house and you still have the stock engine on a stand in your garage

Yea around a track where such a fancy AWD car is supposed to have the most enormous advantage (and it does). Yet, the ZR1 still managed to beat the GTR and its SpecV version.. I wouldn't call this match stupid at all.

Thank you for this vid! This clearly prooves that Nissan used a souped up GTR with at least 550 hp. It`s so evident that the GTR has far more hp than 480.
bullshit ,the gtr was all stock and the 2010 is even faster they say that it has around 515 stock and that nissan is very conservative at 485 but it is all stock.
You know that not all GTR's have the same hp? Where they are hand built they vary in hp. But I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be enough to affect the outcome.
I personally recently traded-in a leased Corvette C6, w/48K miles, and it was perfectly fine. No rattles to speak of, and the car drove like a dream. To each his own...
The GT-R was a ringer. No pun intended. Several rags have done tests (as has Porsche) and nobody has come within 20 seconds of that time. And if you think the Porsche test drivers can't drive, even though the ring is in their back yard, then I have some ocean front property for sale in Arizona that may interest you.

Well, look at the Corvette's results at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, especially the qualifying times. Lately Corvette and Aston Martin have been dominating GT1. For example, the qualifying lap in 2008 of the Corvette was about 8 seconds quicker than the Maserati MC12 of the Vitaphone racing team. I know that both are far from stock and I am certainly not a GM nuthugger, but the Corvette does have a strong racing history so it makes the result plausible, imo.

3 seconds would be a lot over a normal sized track like Laguna Seca, but over a 13 mile circuit? Very respectable that the GTR kept it to that small a difference considering its power/weight ratio is all fucked up.

& stil put down fast laps. It's a computer generation car. The thing insainly easy to drive, yet it's a handful on this badas* track. The simple fact are the ZR1 is faster in a straight line, pulls more on a skid pad, breaks better, faster by seconds on a small corse, rightfully so it cost more. But it's only 3 seconds faster in a 13 mile long corse. Less useable traction? Times r fake? I care not about Nurbugring times anymore there's too much questioning about false times.
You make some great points but then i've read others which complete contradict what you're putting. The reason why the GTR can keep up almost on the ring is due to those valid points you've made. But then you're slamming the times its posted. Sport auto and evo magazine have approved both models times. There completely legit. Porsche have now given up being dicks about the times. Nissan have proved there legit. On a normal wide track the ZR1 will beat the GTR easily.
Why do you think it went straight to Nurburgring and not some other tracks till way after? Nissan wanted to produce a hype about this car being so much better than the new Corvette and Porsche.. However, the ZR1 still managed to come out on top =]
ATTESA E-TS Nissans system to provide power to all four wheels. It's a new breed of car. In a race of any kind what's the most impoartant thing..Driver. Races r won & lost with driver skill. Nissan simply removed as much driver error & skill poss. Now I myself, I'd rather have a car with some class, & spirit, a personality left in it. If I want a comp to drive 4 me I'd play Gran Turismo. I don't need a comp to help stoke my ego so I can post the fastest this time & have the best numbers at that

After all - what good is power if you can't put it to the ground? GTRVspec vs ZR1 would be more interesting. In either case the vette would still make more power. If GTRV beats ZR1 it would be extremely humiliating for chevy.

iits based on power. Not tq. TQ has already been taken into account in the hp figure. now just becuase the gtr has less power at peak does not mean its putting down less power all the time. I would assume with great tuning from japan and those turbo's its possible to not only get higher hp faster, but with the awd, it has a bit more traction. AWD? Fancy computer and high-tech stability controls? All to favour the GTR at such a complex track like Nurburgring.. Horsepower has very little to do on this track since its got 170 turns, uneven like pavement, full of crests and many other things that could just take the ZR1 one tiny little mistake to get itself out of control.. Yet, it still beat the GT-R =]
@xj220se I cant still know how you compare the GT-R to the ZR1, yeah they both run close times but comparing a 4 door 480 hp car to a 640 hp coupe is not fair I think. The GT-R is 911 Turbo and Z06 enemies since they both have close hp numbers.
Its like comparing a Exige with slick tyres and a SL65 AMG, they are maybe close in times, but just it.
@DeScRuN I wouldn't know about fair, these 2 cars are totally different. What one doesn't that the other one has it. In this track though, the GT-R had the bigger advantage with its AWD and suspension controls that enabled the GT-R driver to take those turns swiftly even if the pavement is all uneven where any RWD would be likely to lose control. On any road course, you'd see the ZR1 murders the GT-R so yeah, the GT-R is no competition for the ZR1..
@DeScRuN And yeah, I'll agree with you on matters of HP that the GT-R is in about the same class as the Z06 and GT2, except none of them have AWD which is an advantage at tracks where control is imminently important like at Nurburgring.
@xj220se Yeah, I agree but AWD is and advantage know, years ago rally cars where rwd because they thought awd was heavy and like diesels were considereded slow and know won 24h races. Maybe that would change or maybe not, just the GT-R has a superior drivetrain,more sofisticated and awd-computer-helped.
@DeScRuN It is real sophisticated like you say.. But in a way they did push its limits as much to a point where it breaks down.. That's why Nissan had the GT-Rs launch control reprogrammed down to 3000RPM, or somewhere around there, from the 4500RPM launch it originally was set from stock.
i think at 176 the vette was getting really unstable, u can just sense it and the car was shaking, maybe on a better day it could get a slightly better time. but u gotta give it up to the GTR for staying right there. the Vspec vs Zr1 will be fun.

pfff, if you don't know is a 6.2 L V8 505 HP vs a 3.8 l V6 about 470. Also the GT-R is made for track and th Z06 for aceleration on track the GT-R beats easily the Z06 and the Z06 beats the GT-R on aceleration with that big engine. The Z06 is also very fast in track but the GT-R is better. For me I give 9.5/10 to GT-R and 9/10 to the Z06 (bad chasis with plastic)

if a stock gtr really ran a 7.29 i think they would be sure the lighter n higher hp vpec would be even better but they arent...bc this car time around the ring is going to be similiar--strikenly similar-- to hte actual vspec

they are expecting a time of 7.20-7.22 with a pro driver inhte zr1 and unoffical vpec times are coming in at 7.25. also pre factory gtrs like this one have allegedly been tuned. car and driver tested a US Spec gtr and achieved 0 to 60 in 4.1 and 12.2 quarter mile.
The driver of this ZR1 at the Ring is James "Jim" Mero who was a professional driver. He drove for the "ZR-1 Corvette Team USA" in the 1995 24 Hours of Le Mans. Go google "James Mero 1995 Le Mans"

Jim Mero did say that a few secs could be shoved off his lap record at the Ring with the ZR1. You can see in the video (if you watch closely) that he makes 2 mistakes. Also, i don' tknow if it's true, but i heard there was some head wind that when he was going onto that long straight at the end that prevented him from reaching higher top speeds =/
I heard that too that the Jan Magnussen lap was never really done. Looking at Meros lap, I`m sure a sub 7:25 lap would be possible. Unfortunately the ZR-1 only achieved a 7:38 time in the german sport auto mag, the same time as the GTR in the same mag. Sport auto complained about the ZR-1`s lack of sufficient downforce.
Yea.. Lol guess nobody can trust any of their times anymore. It seems like impossible to achieve those times they so highly claim. All i wish to see are vids of their runs so we can compare them one on one.
You can see the ZR1 shifts into 6th at 174 mph. After that, the car barely accelerates. There are a few factors. The ZR1 has a cd of at least .35. The 6th gear is too long for optimum acceleration, just like on other Vettes. Finally, the headwinds held the car back.
There are definitely headwinds. If you look in the beginning half, the ZR1 quickly achieves 170mph, and on this straight, it is only able to hit 175 with strain. There is strong headwind for sure
both cars are insane. the gtr had a much greater starting speed off of that corner due to the awd. its like a head start if you think about it. imagine you start a race at a 40 roll and the other starts at a 60mph roll huge dif.(plus all the headwinds blah blah) it sounds like a huge excuse to me but hey if there were headwinds then thats a HUGE disadvantage as well. i am a vette fanboy but i cannot rag on the gtr. i would like to see these cars from a dig. cant wait till that happens.
how come the zr1 was corners ahead early in the lap, but was stuck in place at the straight? actually watch the comparo! jim mero made a HUGE mistake about 2 and a half minutes in that cost a second (200 feet), and a few others combined without a headwind would bring it 7:25 or lower. the gtr was driven near perfectly. i can easily tell none of you have ever driven or examined a car as the person who made this vid doesnt even know why the rpms go down.
watch the RPMs when the car shifts! in low gear, the zr1 has enough power to overcome the wind and get back up to the redline in the next gear. the zr1 cant stay at 6500 rpm in 5th gear and keep accelerating, so jim shifts into 6th for a lower gear ratio. every time he shifts up and goes faster, there is more drag, thats why it takes longer to get to 6500 in higher gears. in sixth, with the crosswind, the zr1 simply cant overcome the drag. the gear ratio is too low and the drag is too much.
I love how some of the Vette boys (only some though) try to say the GT-R wasn't stock because it was too close to the ZR1 at the end of the straight. Nevermind the reported headwind for the ZR1 and the near perfect conditions for the GT-R. As power2theq stated, the driver either lifted off the accel or the headwinds were really strong, or combination of both. It's clear to see though that the ZR1 should've kept accelerating past the plateau of ~176
wow thats pretty good synchro vid there. the gtr was able to keep up on the main straights. it was only behind by about 1/10 of a second untill they hit the corners, then it was neck and neck
I completely agree with you. did you watch the other video, title ZR1 vs GT-R at the Nurburgring Sync at Entrance. according to the neutral timer the ZR1 finish at 7:28.548 and the GT-R finish at 7:29.149. where is this 3sec time of the ZR1 coming from.
That's too much HP to not pull away. Especially, when it's lighter, unless the wind is strong against you coupled with the fact that your pushing more air our of the way (aerodynamics is EXTREMELY important at high speeds).
The ZR1 should have been much faster down that long straight. Either the driver lifted for whatever reason or the head winds were really strong. It is also possible that the ZR1 was slowed by its drag. The Z06 has a .34 cd so I can see the ZR1 having a .35 or .36 cd. The GTR has a .27 cd.
The GTR is for pussies. Anyone on here could run a decent lap time in it if given practice because of all the driver assists and flappy paddles, but that Vette.... is a fucking demon. Not many can handle it and that's why its so badass.

Make the ZR1 ALL WHEEL DRIVE like the GTR and it'll be hitting under 7:15 on the N-ring, I'd bet.
I don't trust Nissan with this. That time and such little power, even with the help of all wheel drive is just too questionable. They are not geniuses compared to Porsch 911 engineers, sorry. Or else Nissan would be dominating racing EVERYWHERE if this was true.

Notice how the guy in the ZR1 doesn't even hit 180 mph on the long straight? This ZR1 can easily hit over 200 mph, yet he chose to hover at 175 on the straight, and only went to 179 when he hit the downhill part! He held back some and still got a 7:26! If he pushed it harder, he could have got a 7:25 or even 7:24.

Personally, I'm seriously doubting the GTR is totally stock here. But how can one tell? They say each car is unique, so of course Nissan could have tuned this specific GTR to 600+ horsepower for all we know and still say it was "uniquely made, just like all other GTR's!". They did something to it that other GTR's that all others do not have, imo. Sorry, but that's just what I think. So 600+ hp, on FOUR WHEEL DRIVE, PLUS flappy paddles for quick shifts? When these 2 videos are synched, there is a 3 to 3 ½ second gap between the cars at that banner. The timers started and stopped at different areas in the start leading to the difference you see in this comparison.

I just would take any of them but the ZR1 has about 530 rwph while the GT-R has 400 awhp. Its a more advanced drivetrain and it has a great drag coeficient but the ZR1 is the power of the sound and pure lightweight-power muscle which you can drift.

Keeping up with a ZR1 on a X amount mile long straightaway..come on. Go type in: Porsche tries to match GTR time at nurburgring: 2nd link down. Porsche's 'Ring expert were only able to perform a best lap of just 7:54 vs Nissan "claimed" 7:29. Also the ZR1 is 3 seconds+faster than the GTR on tracks that r only a few miles long. This track is 14 miles long & the ZR1 still only manages to be 3sec...hmmm..lol. riight..what a joke. Honestly I don't believe any posted times anymore from anyone.

The ring is such a popular place for proving cars because its just like a fast road. And being there road cars its good to know what car is fast on similar conditions. I couldn't give one if X car is so much quicker on a 50meter wide racing track. Means nothing in a road car! And he was just having a medium to fast test in the car. Not driving anywhere near 100% Every track test between a Turbo and GTR has seen the GTR win quite easily. I can't find the link to the autocar one. Chris harris from drivers republic took the GTR round against the GT2 on a really wet track and did a 7.55 This time is on the list of N'ring times. Hes a good driver but that time was in dangerous conditions and he couldn't go anywhere near the limit.Sport auto time is obviously legit. Independant test.Yes the 7.29 is fast but for someone who knows the car as well as there driver did 9 secs quicker is not that much over 14mile!

The video doesn't prove this. Im guessing you've seen plenty of beep, beep, beep racing from a roll vids and you'll understand if a car gets a little jump it takes awhile to get the lead back. Lets say the GTR is carrying 10mph more speed out of the last bend than the ZR1. Its going to take ages for the ZR1 to get the lead back. But it does quite easily and then loses its lead through braking from 180mph on the curves. Its where the GTR excells at!

Also if u pause it at 12-12.5sec u can clearly see the ZR1 is closer to the red billboard by maybe a half a second. Then pause again at 29-29.5 almost 30 seconds and u'll see in the top right portion of the ZR1's view a white barn/house; pause it dead on 30sec & it'll dead to the right side of the ZR1. Now look at the GTR's view press play what-d'ya know about the same time split. Bunk a** vid. 1 of 2 things either Nissan lies, or their test car' is putting way more than 431-436whp to the ground

I think you should be questioning why the ZR1 is not quicker TBH. I just read from that test between the GT2 and GTR that the GT2 peeked at 182mph on the straight on a really wet track. The GTR only managed 167 i think. But like said the rain had an effect on both of them speeds. in the video the ZR1 hits 176 before the climb where a slower GT2 hit 182. I did read that when the ZR1 tested there was a serious head wind. I can only imagine thats the case here because we both know the ZR1 is faster

Cuz honestly u can short shift, skip, suck at shifting & from a roll the ZR1 would pull, & pull a noticable amount even so & only get worse & worse as the race goes on. Not only that, but people keep wondering how the GTR has beaten the Porsche so badly and have been "keeping up" with the ZR1 at Nurburgring and it's because of it's AWD system controlled systematically by its fancy control system. Nurburgring is one of the most complex and tough race tracks of them all, full of crests and uneven like pavement all over the place. I heard that that lap record of only .3 slower than the ZR1 was run by the SpecV (don't know if that's true, though)..

Well, look at the Corvette's results at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, especially the qualifying times. Lately Corvette and Aston Martin have been dominating GT1. For example, the qualifying lap in 2008 of the Corvette was about 8 seconds quicker than the Maserati MC12 of the Vitaphone racing team. I know that both are far from stock and I am certainly not a GM nuthugger, but the Corvette does have a strong racing history so it makes the result plausible, imo.

After all - what good is power if you can't put it to the ground? GTRVspec vs ZR1 would be more interesting. In either case the vette would still make more power. If GTRV beats ZR1 it would be extremely humiliating for chevy.

iits based on power. Not tq. TQ has already been taken into account in the hp figure. now just becuase the gtr has less power at peak does not mean its putting down less power all the time. I would assume with great tuning from japan and those turbo's its possible to not only get higher hp faster, but with the awd, it has a bit more traction. Not to mention the description states the gtr has a lower coef. of drag. ...what do you mean by almost the same cd and front area.. @175, almost is a lot

AWD? Fancy computer and high-tech stability controls? All to favour the GTR at such a complex track like Nurburgring.. Horsepower has very little to do on this track since its got 170 turns, uneven like pavement, full of crests and many other things that could just take the ZR1 one tiny little mistake to get itself out of control.. Yet, it still beat the GT-R =]

@xj220se I cant still know how you compare the GT-R to the ZR1, yeah they both run close times but comparing a 4 door 480 hp car to a 640 hp coupe is not fair I think. The GT-R is 911 Turbo and Z06 enemies since they both have close hp numbers.
Its like comparing a Exige with slick tyres and a SL65 AMG, they are maybe close in times, but just it.

@DeScRuN I wouldn't know about fair, these 2 cars are totally different. What one doesn't that the other one has it. In this track though, the GT-R had the bigger advantage with its AWD and suspension controls that enabled the GT-R driver to take those turns swiftly even if the pavement is all uneven where any RWD would be likely to lose control. On any road course, you'd see the ZR1 murders the GT-R so yeah, the GT-R is no competition for the ZR1..

@DeScRuN And yeah, I'll agree with you on matters of HP that the GT-R is in about the same class as the Z06 and GT2, except none of them have AWD which is an advantage at tracks where control is imminently important like at Nurburgring.

@xj220se Yeah, I agree but AWD is and advantage know, years ago rally cars where rwd because they thought awd was heavy and like diesels were considereded slow and know won 24h races. Maybe that would change or maybe not, just the GT-R has a superior drivetrain,more sofisticated and awd-computer-helped.

@DeScRuN It is real sophisticated like you say.. But in a way they did push its limits as much to a point where it breaks down.. That's why Nissan had the GT-Rs launch control reprogrammed down to 3000RPM, or somewhere around there, from the 4500RPM launch it originally was set from stock.

i think at 176 the vette was getting really unstable, u can just sense it and the car was shaking, maybe on a better day it could get a slightly better time. but u gotta give it up to the GTR for staying right there. the Vspec vs Zr1 will be fun.

On the same straight the 997 GT3 had a top speed of 272km/h(the 996 GT3 did that aswell).The 90hp more powerful Z06 did 270km/h.The Porsche Turbo did 283km/h (a bit faster than the Zonda F and 430 Scuderia which did 281km/h).
The Corvette C6 did 253km/h.The RS4 did 262km/h (8km/h faster than the R8).The GT2 did 293km/h while more powerful Zonda F only did 281km/h.
btw the 996 GT3 has 360hp and was 2km/h faster than the 512hp Z06.

the only cars on hte road that beat the zr1 are the enzo and ferraris newest whichruns 3.1 to 60 and 11.1 quarter mile time...but those cars r 600k. and the newest has no radio or AC, zr1 beats all porsche,,, all ford....all dodge, nissan, etc...without all hte "technology" and computer assistance thats makes more expensive cars actually slower?!?! haha

pfff, if you don't know is a 6.2 L V8 505 HP vs a 3.8 l V6 about 470. Also the GT-R is made for track and th Z06 for aceleration on track the GT-R beats easily the Z06 and the Z06 beats the GT-R on aceleration with that big engine. The Z06 is also very fast in track but the GT-R is better. For me I give 9.5/10 to GT-R and 9/10 to the Z06 (bad chasis with plastic)

they are expecting a time of 7.20-7.22 with a pro driver inhte zr1 and unoffical vpec times are coming in at 7.25. also pre factory gtrs like this one have allegedly been tuned. car and driver tested a US Spec gtr and achieved 0 to 60 in 4.1 and 12.2 quarter mile.

The driver of this ZR1 at the Ring is James "Jim" Mero who was a professional driver. He drove for the "ZR-1 Corvette Team USA" in the 1995 24 Hours of Le Mans. Go google "James Mero 1995 Le Mans"

[sighs] As much as I wish that was true, I heard that Jan Magnussen was State-side when that lap record was supposedly achieved.. Jim Mero did say that a few secs could be shoved off his lap record at the Ring with the ZR1. You can see in the video (if you watch closely) that he makes 2 mistakes. Also, i don' tknow if it's true, but i heard there was some head wind that when he was going onto that long straight at the end that prevented him from reaching higher top speeds =/

I heard that too that the Jan Magnussen lap was never really done. Looking at Meros lap, I`m sure a sub 7:25 lap would be possible. Unfortunately the ZR-1 only achieved a 7:38 time in the german sport auto mag, the same time as the GTR in the same mag. Sport auto complained about the ZR-1`s lack of sufficient downforce.

You can see the ZR1 shifts into 6th at 174 mph. After that, the car barely accelerates. There are a few factors. The ZR1 has a cd of at least .35. The 6th gear is too long for optimum acceleration, just like on other Vettes. Finally, the headwinds held the car back.

There are definitely headwinds. If you look in the beginning half, the ZR1 quickly achieves 170mph, and on this straight, it is only able to hit 175 with strain. There is strong headwind for sure

both cars are insane. the gtr had a much greater starting speed off of that corner due to the awd. its like a head start if you think about it. imagine you start a race at a 40 roll and the other starts at a 60mph roll huge dif.(plus all the headwinds blah blah) it sounds like a huge excuse to me but hey if there were headwinds then thats a HUGE disadvantage as well. i am a vette fanboy but i cannot rag on the gtr. i would like to see these cars from a dig. cant wait till that happens.

how come the zr1 was corners ahead early in the lap, but was stuck in place at the straight? actually watch the comparo! jim mero made a HUGE mistake about 2 and a half minutes in that cost a second (200 feet), and a few others combined without a headwind would bring it 7:25 or lower. the gtr was driven near perfectly. i can easily tell none of you have ever driven or examined a car as the person who made this vid doesnt even know why the rpms go down.

watch the RPMs when the car shifts! in low gear, the zr1 has enough power to overcome the wind and get back up to the redline in the next gear. the zr1 cant stay at 6500 rpm in 5th gear and keep accelerating, so jim shifts into 6th for a lower gear ratio. every time he shifts up and goes faster, there is more drag, thats why it takes longer to get to 6500 in higher gears. in sixth, with the crosswind, the zr1 simply cant overcome the drag. the gear ratio is too low and the drag is too much.

I love how some of the Vette boys (only some though) try to say the GT-R wasn't stock because it was too close to the ZR1 at the end of the straight. Nevermind the reported headwind for the ZR1 and the near perfect conditions for the GT-R. As power2theq stated, the driver either lifted off the accel or the headwinds were really strong, or combination of both. It's clear to see though that the ZR1 should've kept accelerating past the plateau of ~176

wow thats pretty good synchro vid there. the gtr was able to keep up on the main straights. it was only behind by about 1/10 of a second untill they hit the corners, then it was neck and neck

That's too much HP to not pull away. Especially, when it's lighter, unless the wind is strong against you coupled with the fact that your pushing more air our of the way (aerodynamics is EXTREMELY important at high speeds).

The ZR1 should have been much faster down that long straight. Either the driver lifted for whatever reason or the head winds were really strong. It is also possible that the ZR1 was slowed by its drag. The Z06 has a .34 cd so I can see the ZR1 having a .35 or .36 cd. The GTR has a .27 cd.
