Junkman, you have the most informative and interesting videos on the net. For that I say thank you. I bought a spoiler pre painted and it looked great when I put it on the car but now the clear coat somehow got some serious orange peal to where the paint looks faded and not shinny. Ill be using your vids to help me through. Thank you agian.
It sounds like you have an oxidation problem going on. If you can't get the results you want, contact me over at Adam's Forums (Junkman2008), with some detailed pictures of what you are working with and I will assist you.
just FYI, an etcher is best for cleaning alu parts (not for shine, for purpose). Granted you want to start with simple green or another good degreaser, but more for the mating surfaces you want to mate with two part compound. The advantage there is that you literally pit the alu and that lends to adhesion with the desired adhesive.
It's not 1983, adhesives are PHENOMENAL these days. Add shavings, will travel.
@TCDF22 Well, I know nothing about this stuff so I went with what the Permatex engineers told me. I still think the lack of being able to clamp the pieces together was my downfall. If I could clamp the pieces together, it may have worked.
Yes I turn my own screws bolts. And some of designs I've come across. Just makes me want to lock the designers of ford chrysler in a room and make them do the job,and aftwards ask them what hell wher u thinking?
I hear u J, I buy and sells cars for a living so I seen them come and go, Just from quality stand point, sorry to say they just don t stand up to ther foreign counter parts. Now we belled gm out in 2009 the next year they made cusumer reports worst vehicles in 2010.
@fivefortyeye540i Not at all. If you know how to turn your own screws, the repairs are not that bad at all. I've done a bunch of them as my car has 131,000 miles on it. If you have to rely on a shop, then you're in trouble. These cars are inexpensive to buy, but not to own if you can't turn your own screws.
The same thing happen to me on my 98 540i. But it happen during transmission installation. I junked the car afterwards.
Did u say u half to replace the headgasket on that bad boy. what is that like a 15 - 20 hr job? Gm, Chrysler, Ford, Chrysler exspecialy ,followed by ford, just don't put out quality. In my opinion the greatest American made car was the Buick. I don't know about these newer ones to many bells and whistles just like the Caddilac. They are good when their new, but get some mil
@Junkman2000 sorry about the recent bad luck with your baby. perfect excuse to put some better heads and a mild cam in there since your going to be doing the gaskets anyway :)
@perezownzu LOL! Man, that's what happens when you get old! Farts just kick the back door open and walk out at the most inopportune time! I maced two Circle K managers this morning. One of them almost gagged! LOL!
@Junkman2000 Then another question. Isn't the block likely to have warped causing the new head gasket no to seal like it should? I don't know how much money you have but I think that you should have took the block out got the part welded on then, also have the head matting surface machined.
@PBballer23list Not the block, but the head could have gotten warped and may need to be machined. Apparently, that can happen, but none of the experts that I talked to think the block is warped. I'm hoping that they are correct. If the actual block is bad, then I will just buy another new LS1 crate motor. I can get one for around $5000.
@Junkman2000 Yea I found a new LS1 without the wiring harness for that. What happened to make it over heat though, if you don't mind all the questions?
@PBballer23list The first time it overheated was due to a bad thermostat. Every other time was due to a coolant leak in some point of the cooling system. After I have replaced everything, the system was solid until the coolant started leaking at the head gasket.
That chrome stuff is so strong that it makes you fart...

@fivefortyeye540i The head gasket doesn't look like that bad of a job. I'll do a write up of the job once I complete it. I'll know for sure then.

do you mean LS series truck engines 5.3, 4.8 etc instead of LS1 truck starters? dont recall an LS1 ever being in a truck...

@44088044 You could be right. I'm going by what the Camaro guys over at LS1Tech told me. I could be mistaken or misunderstood what I read.

Junkman, Just buy a new LS7! I know you want one. haha just messin man. That sucks what happened. To your block.
What happened to the Head Gasket? You better have not overheated your vet.
PBballer23list 4 months ago
@PBballer23list Yep, overheated the engine and caused the head gasket and coolant to mix together. I'll be replacing it this week.
