@7modernnomad7 Ya it's Todd Sickafoose on bass, i got the biggest crush on him (i think it goes w/out sayin that we're all in love w/ ani). Todd rips on that bass just as hard as ani does on the guitar and together...well there isnt any adjective that would truly do them justice.
@torieros I was just going by the way she plays guitar in this song. it reminded me of something Dave Mathews would play. Didn't think it was that bad of a comment haha. Both are as talented as they come.
She always changes things up or loses a little stamina when the crowd is screaming back at her. But none of these fools seem to notice. Maybe I just didn't have enough chocolate today but those people piss me off. Ani is the greatest, no doubt but let her sing the fucking song people.
yes but obama is not really different...he may be a little bit darker than bush but he is capitalist anyway and capitalism and consume cant answer to the totality of the existence of human being..we need the left wing to rise again and create new horizonts of real freedom. long live the arts...they are the hope.
thats very vague to say sure she has her own record label, but a lot of money is invested in upcoming grassroots bands, and im going to one of her shows on monday and tickets were 30 bucks for front roll. shes not like metallica or acdc, 90 dollar tickets and guitar hero contracts.
Ya know. Some people can really screw up a perfect thing. What the hell does gay or anything like it have to do with this great music. Listen. Enjoy. Go about your life. Why do some lesbians run around looking like truckers and some gay men run around looking like an umbrella drink and then bitch because they get picked on. God. This is great music. Leave it at that.
What's comical is that this lesbian "icon" who continually sings of same-sex "love" has consistently married men (and is still married to one).
Either she's a hypocritical pervert or an astute businesswoman with an ear for the zeitgeist and the sheep-like predilections of the disaffected college girls who listen to her.
Frankly, she looks like she could do with some water and soap.
My God, I love all the queer hangups. People are nuts. Sexual orientation is an afterthought in this song if you get it - it is about passion, pure and simple. Gorgeous. Ani, I love you.

Well...you're right in saying that I shouldn't tell people what to believe, but I do think that people should look at the facts...and be open to realizing that (not the actual actions necessarily, but) the actual homosexual sexual attraction that some people experience is just a natural and benign variation in our species, much like right (vast majority of people) and left-handedness.

Ive seen Ani over 100 times LIVE, she is the best singer/songwriter/performer of her age... NO QUESTION... I saw her the night she wrote this song, the original title, "MAD AT US" thats how she introduced it... a year later, on the CD, Its called SHAMELESS.... I LOVE YOU ANI.... ANI at Lupos in RI is the standard, anybody feel me?
She is so ON FIRE!! I remember seeing her in the 90's at Blue Moon Coffee House at Illinois Wesleyan University...This video reminds me of those good old days!!!!!
shes fucking amazing! an absolute goddess, incredible character and the best damn poet on the planet! if you cant find even one little thing to respect her for talent wise, then youre blind because you wanna be, ya dig?
as a 'black metal bitch', I discounted her for many years as just another hippie with a guitar and connections.... I was so wrong... this woman is amazing, and anyone who doesn't take the time to listen is selling her/him self short....
i just descovered her a few days ago flying home from europe they had her album canon under world music on the in flight entertainment I WAS AMAZED BY ALL OF HER SONGS each is very original and REAL MUSIC
I've heard her music referred to as alt-folk, jazz, folk-rock, punk, acoustic rock. World Music is a new category, but makes sense because of her guitar style. That's awesome, the places we find new music...
You absolutely cannot say she is not an absolute original and that she is on the corporate bandwagon. She has resisted that her entire career, and if you listened to her for 10 years (like I have) you would know that. But continue to compare her to Christina--show your ignorance.
Just discovered Ani about 1 week ago and must tell you folks: I love this singer. Every song is so different and is crafted by a true musician. Which now a days is a wonderfully refreshing statement to make. Five Stars!!
woodensaw, you are obviously just too bored with your life and depressed about how much you suck so you spend your time knocking an amazing women that you couldn't live up to if you tried!
Ani Difranco is not just about her AMAZING songs, but also about what she represents- a postitive role model for musicians and women in a male dominated world.
And all of her songs don't have repetitive guitar parts. And what buisness is it of yours if she shaves her legs or not?

Is she like the alien offspring of Dave Matthews and Korn? Scary. If we're talking post-modern, Dustin Kensrue's lyrics are the truest of the true, and if we're talking poetics, she is but a shadow of the true ecopoets - p.s. can someone teach this pothead how to play a song with more diverse funk rhythms, b/c the twang just gets annoying. Matt Good blows this pot princess out of the water.
Let's see, Woodensaw. You registered on Youtube two weeks ago and immediately left obnoxious comments on several Ani Difranco videos. You're entitled to your opinion, but if you don't like Ani, why go out of your way to search for her videos? Just let her be. There's room for both Ani as well as your favorites on youtube. You sound like a disgruntled former postal worker.
woodensaw, pop-pablum? Really now, it seems like you were just just dying to use that insult without regard to the artist you applied it to. If she was pop-pablum she would have been played on pop radio, you wouldn't have had to go to YouTube to hear her. So much of Difranco's work has no resemblence to pop that I've got to believe you're making these comments just to get a reaction. You come across as a juvenile in need of attention. If you're really 24 this is just pitiable.
Seriously... Does it make you feel good to insult people over the internet? I mean. It's not like Ani is ever going to read it and go "Oh geez. I should stop singing because this fucktard dosn't like me."
It's like watching a freak at a carnival - I personally prefer Christina Aguellera to Anne Franco, although they both use the same lyrical up-down-inflection gimmick. I just wish someone would teach Ani how to play guitar that isn't boring or repetitive like a washer/dryer going all day. Her lyrics are cliches - why can't you people realize her fallacy?!!
Ani was writing music years before Christina Aguilera started recording other people's songs. But that's fine--Christina is a fantastic singer, which isn't really what Ani is aiming for.
