I saw Vince as a young teen in my hometown close to Hamburg (where he's from). The guy captivated his audiences, believe me. Watch him play with Inga Rumpf (another musician from Hamburg) in the video "my life is a boogie". Awesome.
Vince is old, now (me, too), but I know a little about piano playing and historic forms and here's a question: If you find anyone on The Tube who puts it all together better than Vince, here, in his prime, would you let us know?
I'm talking about in terms of solo Boogie piano and vocals, for fluidity, great time, a nice bluesy vocabulary (check out that haunting little intro) and all of it in a package.
Btw, I know there are lots of real good players, here, in this genre. I'm just sayin'...
One of the beauties of Youtube is that you find rare and hitherto unknown gems that can be enjoyed fresh. This is a good example of that. Excellent. Thanks!
I was actually looking for some video with vincent gallo rapping, "prince Vince" or something but this is pretty cool i love the chorus of gilda radners behind him dancing with the gortons fisherman as well as his evil stares into the camera.
@crazypianolady - The bananas represent the props and wild production of Josephine Baker. I mention her below a couple of posts down. She took Europe by storm and was famous for her gaudy, fun tropical and jungle motifs back when boogie woogie was huge.
Bette Midler sure knows about Josephine B and big crazy sets with giant vines, palm trees, bananas and all that
Vince is very, very good and its amazing how a German native can sing in English so well. I am kinda mystified by the background and the lady in the bananas though.
The woman represents Josephine Baker, the brilliant Black American expatriate who captivated Europe with her extravagant costumes and her flair as an entertainer and association with exotic production numbers. She's just someone's idea of some imagery from the era of this music - since Vince is European, the whole flavor is in the direction of Europe as flavored by American Black music. You could yahoo her name and get some fun info and background.
I've watched it, now, more than a few times, playing along, and just plain digging it. The intro/outro is really interesting and kind of haunting.
This cat is bad! (and I mean GOOD). I guess he's still around, because I've now seen him in some recent videos. I hope he's made a solid living and gotten some respect; I plead ignorance of the guy but I'll be watching for him, now. Good, good stuff!
Now that is Winning :) Beautiful
Peace

where did they get those rhythmically-challenged chicks?
I like this guy! Is he dead, or what?
If he'd slow it down a little, it would swing a little more solid......but...he knows (knew?) his shit!

This man marks the top of boogie woogie piano playing. Same class as Ammons, Booker, Johnson and Lewis.
