The drug issue could be substantially reduced by treating addicts instead of imprisoning them with other criminals. I don't mean for them to get off scot free, but they need to be segregated somehow and treated.

No, thats different. Narcotics are addictive in a far more different way than, say, chocolate or Bud Light. An overdose of cocaine or heroin will kill you, but even if you never OD you'll still be a disheveled mess of a person barely able to function in life, which is almost guaranteed to be very short. But I do see what you're saying. If theres some way to control the amount and need so the stuff we buy doesn't destroy us, well then by all means go ahead. I just don't think its possible. In Switzerland heroin is legal. not to buy on the street but to go to special clinics where the addicts are given clean needles and supervised doses. this keeps the drugs and paraphernalia off the streets and reduces crime as they are given this for free I believe. they have no higher amount of addicts compared to other countries where it's illegal

I've had the same experience. My weed smoking friends say they get mostly locally grown weed, but I doubt that they can know that. Also, the problem with your argument is that theres no line being drawn; where does it end? Should our society sink so low as to sell narcotics and whatnot just because it makes us money? As much demand as there is for drugs, for a government to sanction products that would inevitably do nothing but kill you is horrendous, just like the tobacco industry.

Well I don't have all the answers, and I don't know where a line should be, should it stop at weed or continue to meth? I'd don't know, but as far as weed goes I don't believe there should be this kind of legal regulation.
And with morals. I know people are willing to die for what they believe, in but when asked to go against your own personal morals, the question is "for how much?". I'm not saying morals are crap, I'm just saying this usually happens.

And for this. I would say its not the governments place to tells us what we can or can't use to some degree. In this day and age everything eventually kills us, food can kill us if we eat to much, tobacco if we smoke to much, alcohol if we drink to much, etc etc.
Everything in excess is a bad thing (in my opinion) but a little bit of one thing ain't bad, you know?

No, thats different. Narcotics are addictive in a far more different way than, say, chocolate or Bud Light. An overdose of cocaine or heroin will kill you, but even if you never OD you'll still be a disheveled mess of a person barely able to function in life, which is almost guaranteed to be very short. Its far more serious and far more deadly. Morals take on a very serious subject once the government tells us they're gonna sell us poison because we want it. Its also the gov.'s job to protect us

The junkie circumstance, which everyone thinks of when they think of drugs, is the only bad thing about those drugs. So I agree with you that it would be very hard to regulate.

But I do see what you're saying. If theres some way to control the amount and need so the stuff we buy doesn't destroy us, well then by all means go ahead. I just don't think its possible. I have a bias, but my personal belief is that people are by nature self-destructive. But maybe theres some way around the demand for drugs that we just haven't thought of, because what we're doing now as a country is sure as fuck not working.

I'm not saying the Gov should sell drugs, oh god no the Gov can't do shit with a business. No I'm saying the Gov should lay off, pass laws that would regulate certain things (like an age limit, etc, etc.)
Also I'm only talking about weed. Although I don't find the drug appealing, it seems to be the only one without any characteristics of the "hard drugs", You're not going to be in a bathroom with a stranger talking for 3 hours about random things on weed, or sucking D**k for it, you know.

Well, if you just meant weed this whole time, then I absolutely agree. If they can legalize alcohol and tobacco, then there really is no reason why weed should be demonized so much. Amsterdam, from my knowledge, does just fine.

Ya, Holland is a good example. There was a pole in Times Magazine where students who smoked weed performed as well as students who didn't. unfortunately I can't show you the reference to this (I forgot the issue). Although someone like me would love to see other drugs legalized, I don't understand why weed is not.
(BTW this is the 1st youtube video ive really posted on, glad to talk to someone who doesn't call me a nazi or a retard or a noob, you know. haha)

You do realize that no matter what drug youre talking about, the effects on the users are far less harmful than the war on drugs.
The only drugs which are more harmful than the war on drugs are really Alcohol and PC, and even then, the prohibition still isnt the best option...

In Switzerland heroin is legal. not to buy on the street but to go to special clinics where the addicts are given clean needles and supervised doses. this keeps the drugs and paraphernalia off the streets and reduces crime as they are given this for free I believe. they have no higher amount of addicts compared to other countries where it's illegal
