  • Bannan peze! Haitian food! Hispaniolans, unite! lol!

  • Voy a cocinar tostones muy pronto!

  • Thanks for sharing, I just met a guy that is Dominican, I want to make this for him

  • I mash mine with my hands, but there's no wrong way. Puerto Ricans typically smash them with our hands or use a tostonera at most.

  • I eat my tostones like chips because when theyre really crispy they taste almost like potato chips.. I love them especially when I eat them with arroz con gandules.

  • very educational, thanks a lot

  • Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic and Cuba its the Countries of Tostones!

  • hmmmmmmm yummy

  • now i will go make myslef some tostones :D

  • Thank you so much. This video was very helpful. Can't wait to try to make these!

  • Stop by and view my video on this recipe.

    God Bless,

    Elba

  • dude im glad you like the tostones. im dominican and all i can critique about your vid is... your t shirt's map is messed up lol that aint the accurate shape of the island :p

  • this video is awesome! thanks for taking the time to educate!

  • Tostones rule. I had my wife make these in P.R practically every single day, also makes a very good breakfast when the "platano" reaches maturity (exterior becomes yellow) which then gives it a very good and sweetened taste. Just fry once (in slices of course) and serve with sunny side eggs and some good coffee, goes together in perfect harmony and very tasty! Excellent vid.

  • Thanks for posting this, I wanted to show a friend of mine what Tostones are, so i found your video , I love them personally. And It really changes the flavour of the platanos.

  • yea i agree, it doesnt matter how you smash them..i smash mine with a saucer or bottom of a cup..hehehhe but i usually season mine with Adobo seasoning hahaha..but anyway, I LOVE TOSTONES!!!! i love eating them with puerto rican rice (aroz con gandules y pollo) with avocado on the side...yum, OMG this video made me hungry LOL

  • Haven't had tostones in awhile. I usually use garlic salt on mine.

Another thing I do, if I really want to chow down on some comfort food is make a couple of batches then smother them with seasoned sauteed onions and peppers, top it off with fresh shredded asiago and pepper jack cheese and then bake until the cheese melts. Toss some pickled jalapeno and you're ready for a divine experience hehe. =)

  • Excelent!!! Estuve leyendo tu blog y es excelente lo que haces para practicar. Ahora me retiro para preparar tostones para el desayuno :D

  • PATRIA

  • Yesterday was the day I fall in love with Tostones, and today I learned how to make it from you :)) All I can say is: thank you, thank you, thank you!! Adios :)

  • yes i like to eat them with eggs and salami mmmmm

  • It is not exactly like this. The most important for preparing an original tostones is that you are supposed to smash the platano with your hands. This gives the real shape of the tostones. The way you smash 'em it is not right, because you cannot feel how strong are you doin' it.

  • I appreciate your comment, but this is how my Dominican family makes them, they smash them with el pilón. :)

  • I think it doesn't matter how they're smashed. I've done them with my hands and everyone else I know but I it hurts! I find the idea of the Pilon ingenious and I think I'll do that in the future :) They look delicious!

  • @profzjones what do they taste like? i've seen the stuff in raw form at the market, but never knew what they were for. are they sweet?

  • @profzjones so this is authentic then. awesome

  • im from puerto rico and i have to tell you molestosa that you are wrong cause he cant smash the platano with his hand since they are hot

  • @molestosa how about your hands being burn with the oil.

  • awesome :]

i would suggest using newspaper instead of paper towels though, it absorbs just as well but it doesn't make the tostones soggy.

  • It was good my friend but if you love to eat latin food we can switch houses, you can get mine here in venezuela and I can get yours in usa. hehehehe.

  • mmm put some garlic on it and you are done my friend LOL. lol taba buscando otra receta con tostones pero ps vi este video. kool. mucha gente no sabe como hacerlos.

  • Yummmm

    five *****

  • make a long slit from the top of the plantain down to the bottom..about 3 slits..don't go too deep in the plantain...and then with the knife you can actually peel back the peel very easily..make some mojito and you are set!..that thing he squished the plantains with is where you actually make the garlic sauce called mojito..i'm cuban and these have been tradition for my family every Sunday dinner..my grandmother made them and now I make them for my family..

  • no le echas sal,no me gusto como lo prepare yo

  • what about the garlic you had there on the side, some of them get garlic you know, well according to taste. good recepie

  • pretty good but you should show people how to peel the platano and also how thick they should be cut :). im sure they came out yummy though

  • impresive

  • im eating that today

    yummersz

    =]

  • I would use wax paper on top of the plantains before I squish them with that thing, it looks dirty!

  • good stuff dude!

  • a friend of mine from Puerto Rico (I'm a Texan) had his wife make these and got me hooked on them as well as some other excellent popular PR foods.

  • Good job! At first I was like hmm they're looking a little burnt...but at the end they looked awesome!

  • I can almost taste the tostones....wish I was.....

  • i love tostones!!!!
