Back in the 60's people read books went outside and learned to fight for their rights, they weren't afraid to say what's on their mind be it an opinion or to the plain dumb obvious we miss to recognize today. Haven't you noticed Hollywood is running out of ideas and just producing failed remakes of epic movies from the past? They pack it with garbled CGI but it fails to stimulate the audience's mind.

Good movie, but I like the way the apes act more in Rise of the Planet of the Apes, I hope they make a squeal to Rise, nit not an original remake, but one where apes take over the rest if earth and show how they learned to do all of the things they can do in this movie, like talking, horse riding, ect.

You got to think when this came out; 1968. That's back when Rocket travel was as wondered about as space travel. So you find a lot of films with shuttles getting lost in space around the era of film making.

Okay. For everyone who thinks Rise is a remake or even a prequel, let me clear things up. ***Spoilers*** The way the apes took over is shown in the original film series during Conquest for... & Battle for... Caesar(1971) was brought to our time by his mother Zira and grew up in our world to eventually take over. It is one of those infinite time loop stories like in Terminator. In Rise(an alternate timeline), Caesar is a normal Chimp that has been experimented on.

the original planet of the apes was awesome. Tim Burton's crap was awful. Hope the new movie will be better next month. If it is not then they need to stop remaking Planet of the Apes. And it is amazing that they spend millions of dollars these days for CGI special effects that don't even look real. What a waste of money. The effects from the original Planet of the Apes was better than Tim Burtons and it was made 40 years ago. Leave the classics alone.

Go to the Wikipedia page for "Rise" and you'll see the director, Rupert Wyatt, saying that "Rise" IS a prequel to the first and original 1968 film. The events in the reboot may likely lead up to the events even portrayed in 1970's "Beneath" because the upcoming sequel will feature humanity retreating underground to escape the virus portrayed at the END of "Rise". See, everything is being set up to fit into the timeline of the first two "Apes" films, I think.

@RETROGEMS For the virus part, maybe so but as for the issue of the apes vs. humans of the original timeline, I don't think so. Not with Caesar around. In '68 movie's original timeline there is no Caesar, only Aldo (the one they worshiped) which hated all humans. Unless when after Caesar dies, some other evil ape takes over, enslaves humanity and whatnot then yeah that's plausible.

Only the original "Planet of the Apes" was good. The sequels (or prequels since they also go back in time) were pretty bad. "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" ignores #3-5 (#2 is ignored by default obviously) and reboots the prequels. It would be pretty hard to do worse then #2-5. Its probably not going to be an amazing movie due to the pretty basic Virus -> Ape not happy -> Ape smash storyline but I hope the action makes it worth it.

The 1968 version is infinitely better than the modern one. Just for the little things, like humans not being able to talk, or humans living in the jungles, zoos and exhibits, or the passing mentions of apes evolving from humans and God making ape in his image, or how the further the ape archaeologists dug the more advanced the technological remnants were, culminating in a talking human doll. And, of course, the awesome ending. The modern remake had none of this!
