This was my dad and hearing this version of the song (which I'm sure I've never heard before) has just made my day! I'd completely forgotten the origins of the song and laughed out loud when I remembered. Thank you! From Eleanor McGinn.
My parents have some of your dad's albums and that's how I got to know his music, I'm sure you must be really proud of him, he was a true Scottish music and cultural icon.
Eleanor. My Dad and brother saw your Dad perfom at the Labour Rooms in Kilmarnock and had a great night. Never expected anyone to put this on here. So glad they did
Much obliged! Been a fan of the great man since my teens through my father's recommendation, and have never looked back. Recently went to the tribute in Eastwood Park Theatre and had a ball. Although I have 2 CDs and the book, I was delighted to hear wee ditties such as Toni Capaldi and Granda He Fell off the Verandah, which, like this, I was entirely ignorant of. The man represented a generosity that we seem to be dissuaged from nowadays. Thanks a bunch for this tubesnake!
Oh my Goodness! When I was a little girl my great uncle from Greenock would sing this song . I haven't heard this in ages. Thanks for the memories.

Great live version of an amazing song... Check out the original 'studio mix' from his Best of Vol2 CD album...it's even better!

Eleanor, can you settle a wee argument. I say your dad was born in Dundee, my pal says Glasgow. There's a pint on it.

My dad was born at number 8 Ross Street in the Calton in Glagow on 17th January 1928! Maybe his song The Dundee Ghost has confused you??

If you like Matt McGinn you may also like Ivor Cutler , look him up on the net!

Hmmm...don't know this Cutler bloke, big fan of McGinn and Hamish Imlach though...cheers again Tubesnake!

tubesnake is right, though I have to say Ivor Cutlers humour is very surreal. Just watch The Beatles Magical Mystery Tour, you'll see him there.
