  • Whoever plays the voice of the female cop has got some pipes!

  • That's right, sawing14s. Hail Chris Cerf, king of Sesame Street rock 'n roll, master of the piano!

Why's the police lady complaining that the Rebel L is too loud when she's loud herself?? That's just ironic.

  • Am I really seeing this.

    ahahahaha

  • Who plays guitar on this?

  • Epic. Win.

    !

  • Lmfao 1:44 = Epic Rock

  • hahahahahaha, I love the Billy Idol muppet.

  • the l looks like spongebob!

  • i wanna party with this L

  • This rules so much.

  • Fuck yeah, awesome song, that is the coolest sesame street character I have ever seen as well.

  • L. The letter L.

  • All i can say is Quality.......!!!!!

  • Even though I do like Billy Idol, and his original song "Rebel Yell", I prefer this version better. It's more hardcore.

  • It would have been really cool if they had got Steve Stevens to play guitar on this (he was Billy Idol's guitarist, and he played the Top Gun theme and on Michael Jackson's "Dirty Diana")

  • The female cop has the best voice on this!

  • I know this was supposed to be a parody of Billy Idol's "Rebel Yell", but to me, it sounds more like Judas Priest's "Locked In"

  • The L is the blonde fuzzy hair puppet from chrissy and the alphabets!

  • Yep! That's Chris Cerf, the very talented man who wrote and sang a great deal of songs for Sesame Street, particularly the songs, like this one, that were parodies of pop hits.

  • Just like Rebel Yell!! This totally rocks, no?

  • hahahahahahahahahahahahah

i don't remember this one, but it's great!

  • You don't see the letter "L" on your lawn singing "LALALA" in the middle of the night every day, do you?

  • You don't see the letter "L" walking around your backyard in the middle of the night every day.

  • Billy Idol probably thinks highly of this, because he provided the voice for this particular letter L.

  • Actually, it's Chris Cerf who's the voice of the Letter L and the genius composer of this song. To me, his singing voice is a lot like an American version of Rod Stewart and Roger Taylor from Queen. That is to say, it's GREAT.

  • No no no... where is the REAL Billy Idol appearance??

  • this shit beats some 80's music lmao sweet stuff

  • lol

  • Comment removed

  • music by Christopher Cerf & Sarah Durkee

    billy idle = Kevin Clash

    ...according to muppet wiki

  • LA LA LA!

  • This song is such a hit :)

  • i love this song-tori

  • this was awesome !!!!!

all we have now is elmo's world, sucks

  • I heard the "Real" song of this on the radio today and i remembered this, just had to look it up!

This ones much better than the original <3

  • True that...

But don't forget, if it wasn't for the REAL Billy Idol and his REBEL YELL... this song may never have existed.

  • haha just like Billy Idol's Rebel Yell!

  • Er... you do realize Sesame Street began what you call 'multiracial' bullcrap, right? It was a big part of Sesame Street from the start to have a multiracial cast of human characters. Sesame Street ALSO started the practice of teaching Spanish to children in the 80s. 6_6 Not... really sure why representing people of many races is a *bad* thing to you.

  • i wonder what billy idol thoght of this ?

  • Man! Sesame street used to be cool! Now they just sing nursery rymes. It used to be kinda like "Muppets Lite", but now it's just boring.

  • I like the german version: lausig lautes L xD

  • I wish Sesame Street is cool todayt as it was back in the 1980's.

  • i actually saw this episode when it aired.

iwas like 5 years old, i was a huge Idol fan, and i couldnt belive it. i started jumping on the bed!!!

  • This song's cool! The Letter L's voice sounds like Chris Cerf. Is Chris Cerf still on Sesame Street? They should do more songs like this for kids. You all should see the Mc Hammer Parody Hammer Thang Can't Top This, if you heard it sounds like Mc Hammer

  • This is soooo coool! Unbelievable. All time classic.

    A Rebel L without a cause... lol

  • lol how ironic that when the policewomen gets there to complain about REBEL L being to loud, she's yelling even louder then him lol

  • i know i can download this, and convert the sound to mp3, but i really would like a proper cd mp3 of this.

    tommy

  • Oh my god...the memories...

  • I remember dancing around the living room with my mom whenever they played this on sesame street back when I was like 5 years old. Thanks for bringing back those memories!

  • To all the people saying it's Kevin Clash performing the Billy Idol Muppet, better check page 18 of this comment list. I'd say the ultimate authority already stated it was Richard Hunt a while back ^_^

  • Nope... it's not Richard Hunt...

It's been proven it's Kevin Clash by the muppet wiki's

Besides when you compare the two voices, Richard Hunt's voice would've been much much deeper than that...

  • ...........I can't believe this exists

  • sesame street will really benefit from doing puppet versions of pop songs like they used to in the good ol' days

  • The bad thing about that though is that there isn't any good music from today that they could do. :)

  • It's priceless to hear Fran Brill singing punk rock. :)

  • Billy Idol makes one great Muppet.

  • Well I've always considered the real Billy Idol to be somewhat of a muppet.

  • This oughta be on Guitar Hero!! *rocks out*

  • I would be the first person on line to buy a Sesame Street version of Guitar Hero/Rock Band. Great idea!

Sesame Workshop would probably never license these classic 70s and 80s songs, however. They'd probably be more likely to release the Abby Cadabby/Elmo version so we could "rock out" to songs like "Elmo's World" and "I Love Words". Yeesh.

I bet Chris Cerf would be on board for a Sesame Street GH/RB game!

  • I dearly love this one, my dear friend Don Reardon Jr.(R.I.P.)worked for Henson's creature shop during the 80's working on SESAME STREET and other projects during that time. He made a hilarious illustrated account of his that is unpublished at present time.

  • AWESOME!! Didn't think I remembered this, but the pic rotation totally brought me back. Very cool. As a huge Billy Idol/Classic SS fan, this means a lot to me. Their parodies kicked some major ass. Entertaining for parents as well; I miss that. It made it an all around win for everyone. RIP Jim Henson.

P.S. Thanks for the suggestion of the vid download sites, too, dude. This little gem's going right on my iPod! <3

  • miah is a vitch

  • OMG! It's been YEARS!!!!! AWESOME!

  • billy idol

  • This was the shit...the new sesame street isn't cool like this anymore

  • sesame street so used to rock! really what the hec happened? its so ....... not the bomb anymore! this is one case i can honestly say, the good old days.

  • PTA happen

  • ill tell u wat happened...... ELMO and then bam sesame became totally based around elmo less muppets and more puppets..."sigh"

  • im Rebel L

  • God Sesame Street used to rock SO HARD. WTH happened??

  • Well one thing that happened was Jim Henso died in 1990, and Richard Hunt in 1992.

That and of course perhaps they decided to make the show just a little more educational.

Still... I'm with you... I liked Sesame Street the way it used to be... when Episodes had an ADVENTURE in the street scenes, and you'd have to GUESS what sketches would be coming.

*Sigh* I hate it when things change

  • Basically, in addition to the deaths of Jim Henson and Richard Hunt, BARNEY happened, and played a major role in destroying the Sesame Street we knew and loved from the 70s and 80s.

A new book just came out called Street Gang, written by Michael Davis. I implore any Sesame Street fan to purchase this book for the full story on how Sesame Street came to be and how it was lobotomized after Henson's death. Keep in mind it is a book intended for adults, and is written for adults.

  • Oh, and Joe Raposo's death didn't help either.

  • Is Kevin Clash part of the Alphabeats backup singers to Little Chrissy (Christopher Cerf)?

  • You have no idea how long I've been trying just to hear this song again... God bless Youtube.

  • Ok, this is just fantastic. I'm blown away by how amazing this is.

  • Rebel Without a Cause joke...didn't catch that as kid! lol

  • Oh my, I think I'm in love with the Billy Idol Muppet lol. The letter L has an awesome voice.

  • Who was the "L"s voice? it's wicked...like could have had a "real" music career!

  • It's all about that one moment at 2:35

    So awesome, gives me shivers.

  • ok, billy idol as a muppet? now that's freaking sweet.

  • hahah turning kids into full metalheads!! I like it alot!!

  • i miss sesame street

  • BILLY IDOL MUPPET!! WOOT!

But I don't think he was voiced by Billy Idol. But Oh, man, I'd kill to see this stuff back on modern Sesame Street.

  • He's voiced by Kevin Clash.

  • L L L Love it!

    Thanks for the flashback sawing12s.

  • Hahaha L L L Love it.

Thank you for the memories :)

  • the L has a super edgy voice...I think I might like this more than the original!

  • so...the Letter L has a wicked voice...who is it.

Totally just caught the Rebel without a Cause gag at the end...fun times!

  • so, the Letter L has a wicked awsome voice...any idea who it is?

  • The L is voiced by Chris Chef

    Billy Idol Muppet: Kevin Clash

    Police-womon: Fran Bill.

  • so the letter L has a wicked voice....

    BILLY IDOL MUPPET!!!!!!!!!!

  • My favorite when I watched it with my kids in the 80s

  • So amazing! It sounds simple to say this, but the guys who did these songs on Sesame street were really, really talented!!

  • this was one of my favourite sesame street moments, i absolutely loved this song and was trying to get it for ages. EPIC!!

  • kind of ironic that the police officer was louder than Rebel L

  • I remember this when a was little.

  • (Hahaha. L... Ryuzaki... lol. All I could think of was L=L from Death Note. lol.)

  • this is from the sesame street that wasnt totally dominated by elmo

  • I liked this song better than the original :D

  • This was from 1986. I read that from somewhere.

  • ~this owns~

  • Billy Idol's Rebel Yell.

  • Holy shit! I remember this one. I la la love that little Rebel L. LMAO!

This song/video seriously rocks. LOL Man, Sesame Street had the best song parodies back in the day (makes me glad I'm an '80s kid!) and "Rebel L" has gotta be one of the greatest of them all.

    Thank you!

  • Is this supposed to be a spoof of the Billy Idol song?

  • Yes

  • omg...he'ssss sooooo hot,...hahaha, or should i say la la loud.

  • Yesssssssss!!!!!! I've been looking for this one for AGES!!! I've even watches Sesame Street for long after I should have been, just to see this one. Thanks!!!!

  • I stil remember this song from when I was little. It's the coolest Sesame street song ever.I'm glad someone has uploading it. I'm was searching for this song so long. :P

    Thank you.

  • "I was born to go la, la, la at the top of la la la lungs." LMFAO...AHHAHHH love it!!

  • LMFAO! That's my favorite line in the song.

  • i always taped sesame street or my kids, an when i saw this i just loved it. i took the tape to the dance club, (small town) but they played it , omg it was sooo funny, everyone had a blast with that,...hahahhaha

  • a mi me encanta.

  • Greatest...Sesame Street Song...EVER! This is the only one that hasn't lost its catchiness as I grow older.

  • I'm not sure this is so good for teaching kids about the letter "L".

Besides, when I first saw this I was 9 years old and my parents wouldn't let me dress like the guy in the leather jacket (because they were too expensive and gay men wore them). See what I mean? This is obviously inapropriate for kids.

  • Fuck off mate...Kids these days have it so easy, and many aren't "saints." This show was one of the greatest kids shows out there cos it taught kids to use imagination--now kids rely on video games to provide their imagination for them.

  • Haha, the L kind of sounds like Peter Gabriel

  • If someone did a cover of that with a female L she would say: "You gotta listen,

See, I'm a lean, mean lass.

Don't like to stand for 'lacy

    Little lamb' or 'looking glass!'"

It makes good sense even with a female L!

  • That would sound great. If they actually did that, I imagine that Fran Bill could voice the Female L... and Chris Chef could voice the police-man who comes up near the end.

Still... it's a great song as it is... especially since it helped me make my parody REBEL GIRL.

  • Hey, that's pretty good.

  • This was the golden era for this show...you can see them really going all out for everything, it's like they had absolutely nothing to lose, and it still works today because of the risks they took and the ambition in the putting these things together. You hardly ever see that in children's programming anymore. Everyone is too busy playing it safe.

  • Simply excellent, better than original.

  • Damn, I actually remember this. Amazing clip!

  • It's funny how the police woman accuses the L of being too loud when she's got the loudest voice in the video.

  • people can be hypocrites

  • This song is fabulous. I'm going to do a cover of it.

  • I would love to see someone do that if not their own custom Guitar Hero/Rock Band cover of it! THAT would be AMAZING!!B-)

  • GOD, I love this song so much. I can listen to it over and over and over again. It's actually BETTER than the original.

The puppeteering is top-notch too. I LOVE the way the Billy Idol muppet dances.

  • ReBeL l

  • This was my favorite Sesame Street song. It actually rocks harder than the original song! This was from when Sesame Street was in its prime.

  • This song is awsome, partially because I've always considered the real Billy Idol to be somewhat of a muppet.

All the same, it would kind of be creepy if a living letter L just showed up on your lawn in the middle the night signing and dancing.

  • Better than most versions i have seen done with this song. REBEL L!!! LA LA LA!!

  • Wow, I forgot how that cop could really hit those notes...

  • Sheeesh, what fun... Excellent use of the "rotate out vertical axis" transition feature there at 1:21. :)

  • Classic.

  • There is no word in English, Japanese, or any other language that can define such GREATNESS!!!!!!

  • maybe no word, but LA LA LA describes this greatness

  • laaa laaa la! ROCK ON! <3 :D

  • oh my god i'd forgotten about this! lol this is brilliant!

  • that L looks like a ciggarette

  • I still think the original is better ;). Sounds more Billy Idolish lol.

  • I like the german one more... it's more melodic...

  • dude, the muppets r fuckin awsome. billy idol, rebel yell.

  • OMGGGGGGGGGGGG.

    I love rebel yell,

    thats like my anthem..

    this video is hilarious.

    Loves it!

  • I agree with Gladrius, the best Muppet music video ever!

  • awesome better then the original!

  • I LUV Billy's hair!! RAD! :)

  • the L is on a line! LOL

  • SESAME STREET KICKS SO MUCH ASS!!!

  • I am so rocking out!

  • I don't know about you, but I think this is PERFECT for a "Guitar Hero" song. Don't you think??

  • Heh... if this was on Guitar Hero, then it would give me an iterest to acutally try the game.

But for now... I just can't go a day without play and moving to this song.

Heh... this music is even great with my parody of it. REBEL GIRL

  • Holy crap I totally remember this! It's probably one of the only segments of Sesame Street I remember from when I was young!

  • a little after my sesame street time, but so cool!

  • cool song. remember this from when i was younger.

  • Is it pathetic that I can't stop listening to this song? Wow I'm sad...

  • i'm sure you're not the only one

  • grab your air guitar and join in.

  • *headbangs*

The seeds of my rock obsession are in this video! Thank you for posting it!

  • Comment removed

  • Holy hell, you're right! Call the continuity guy quick!

  • Ah, this takes me back. GO REBEL L!

  • Duuuuuude, Sesame Street ROCKED back in the Day! *laughs* I remember this clip from back in the mid '80s, used to love to rock out to the song as a little kid. Then, later on in life, I heard the Billy Idol original (Rebel Yell). Don't think I'll ever hear Rebel Yell without thinking about the loud N proud Rebel L. *LOL*

  • One of the BEST SS songs!! Sticks in my head a lot and it's fun to play it on my guitar!!

  • ahhh memories....

  • I like this. I have veague memories of this. It used to scare me.

  • Awesome clip, thanks a bunch!

  • I remember this from when I was a kid. I had never heard the real song back then. Now I know the real one and I'm like omg... the things they used for Sesame Street LOL XD

  • This is the best. Muppet. Music. Video. Ever.

I mean it. This takes me back.

  • thank you so much for posting this!

i remember this so clearly... it's my favorite seasame street "memory" from my youth... and no one else seems to remember it. this proves i'm not crazy! thank you!

  • I wonder what it would be like if we could

    1. Get the real Billy Idol to be in an updated version of the video.

    2. Mix and match parts of the Rebel Yell and Rebel L videos to create a new video of the song.

  • Such a wickedly awesome Sesame Song! Who performed the Billy Idol muppet? Was it Martin Robinson? I definitely know that the guy who sang as the Rebel L did Chrissy(the Alpha-Beats guy),and the cop lady was maybe Fran Brill.

  • YESSSSS

  • superb stuff

  • Brilliant!

  • This is from exactly the era I used to watch S.S., and yet I only vaguely remember this. I do remember the policewoman at the end. This rocks, though.
