Thanks for showing this video. I have a few questions though...
1) The IP Address I get from the site is my router's IP, but why do I have a different IP address than CMD shows (192.168.1.64)?
2) I have multiple computers at home (Brother's, Family, and Mine), if I enter my router's IP Address, how will I know which computer I'm connecting to???
3) This will work with XP to 7 (or Vista) and vice-versa?
have my PC and laptop both running 7 can connet using my laptop to my desktop but cannot go back the other way both have the same settings anyone got any idea's
may i ask why my IP address always change. my Nat IP is 192.168.103. but my external IP always change,,, is it something to do with my ISP or with my Router Dhcp?
To further complicate things, when I have him send me a request for remote assistance i can not log on to his computer. when I request him to log on to my computer it works fine. Am I missing a setting on his router perhaps?
I have spent hours on this and I am in need of assistance myself.
I am trying to use remote assistance with my father. System XP pro. Set up: 1. one computer and router on both ends. 2. all boxes have been checked in remote Tab under properties. 3. Ports have been open and remote "REMOTE DESKTOP" works like a charm, but Remote Assistance will not work.
That is not an error. That is the default behavior of remote desktop for Windows Vista and 7. Basically what you are trying to do is not possible. You cannot be logged in at the same time as someone else. You will need windows server for that 2003 or 2008, where you can enable terminal services. Again, your "problem" does not have a solution with the technology you are trying to use. Thank you for watching.
Question..I am having trouble opening up certain programs at my work computer with remote desktop from my home computer once I bring it up. Is this because the computer can't handle the programs display? Thanks..loved the video, good job!
I dont know if this will help but go to your work computer Remote Desktop - click on the Options, then Display Tab and set your resolution at work to the same resolution at home. Give it try and let me know. Thx.
@eechewling I dont know what's particular about your system. But I am at work right now.. Logged into my pc at Home and I am answering your question. The hardest part about making this work is clearing the firewalls. I recommend getting a second computer inside your network and trying that way first... After try to connect from outside your home/office...
@BablioBr many thanks sir, for your prompt reply.... i got it all sort out following your suggestion...... the 2nd tier problem i am having now is once i logged into the remote computer, the local user cannot continue using the machine... what i wanna do is log into the administrator account of the remote computer, at the same time allow the user continuing their work at the user account... is that possible..?? and again, i thank you very much to solve my earlier problem...
@eechewling Yeah, I hear that alot.. You wont be able too. You need Windows Server 2000, 2003, 2008 to be able to do that. With Windows Server you can start your session or share one, so you and the other user see the same screen at the same time.
Hi There. Thank You very much for the wonderful video. I have been able to setup the connection. I have a small problem whereby the resolution of my home computer changes everytime I log from work. Have you seen this issue before. Your help will be very much appreciated. Cheers.
I can offer anyone free amateur computer support via this program. completely free, no guarantees as i am an amateur. Aim me at "freesupport4u"... i would be willing to help.
i have 2 mini laptops running windows xp and i have 15" laptop running vista ultimate and all connected 2 a netgear wireless router. i have no problems connectting to the vista laptop remotly with the minies but none of my laptops or minies can connect to the either mini.
also when i am away from my home and using a wireless aircard to connect to the internet i am unable to connect to the home computer.
On my computer and laptop, on the remote tab of the system dialogue box, there is only one box saying "Remote Assistance" and there isn't a box saying "Allow users to connect remotely to this computer" and i think that's what's stopping me from connecting. I can send print screens if you need me to.
please clarify the first question. In regards to second question, Yes. Under the Local Resources tab, you can enable clipboard so you can copy and paste files or if you click on the "More..." button you can make any drives available.
thx, bt now i hving a problem ..when i reconnect it shown u cnt connect n u aldy connected the console in this computer....cn u teach me how to disconnect the previous connection ?
By simply disconnecting (turning off) the current connection, you are disconnecting. Try rebooting the host PC, it may be something else hanging up in there. I dont think it is remote desktop.
'The client cld nt connect. u r aldy connected 2 the console of tis computer. A new console session cnt be established' ...pls hlp...both my vista n xp show the same prbl......
Just a guess, but you are probably running XP Home Edition. Remote desktop is only available in XP Pro. You can try my UltraVNC tutorial. That may help solve your problem.
Fantastic tutorial, answered a few questions I have on mind. Just a quick question though, if I have a few computers connected to my router, will this still work or are there settings I need to do? Also, what if my host computer runs on dynamic ip, can i use something like no-ip or does the address have to be an IP address? Thanks
I am not sure whats going on can you clarify a bit more? Are these pcs on the same network if so you would have ip conflict. You can assign ips manually of let your router assign it dynamically. I need more information to help you. thx
OK so the computer are on the same network. Are you trying to Remote desktop from within your network? I mean, example from the living room to your bedroom? Is that it?
go to start--> run. Type "cmd" without quotes. In the new window type "ipconfig" no quotes. Check you "IP adress" that's the number you need to use to access your computer. You can also use your computer name from within the network.
ipchicken is your external ip. One used if you want to access your computer at home from work as an example. Your ipv4 is the one you should be using, when you try to use computers on the same network. So find the ip of the computer you want to remote desktop into and then go to the other computer and use that IP, in the remote desktop connection window.
thanks for being so helpful and patience!!! i'm gonna try it (tomorrow..., it's late and i don't want people to wake up...) i will tell you if i succeeded it...!!! thanx again
ok so i tried to get the IP address of this computer but when I typed in CMD in RUN there came an Error message saying:cmd is not a valid Win32-application
the only thing I dont understand is when it asks you about your usename and password?? what do I write? both computers are without user passwords of any kind. And each computer has one use (admin)? what do I do?
You need to have a password. Go to start--> Control Panel--> User Account--> Pick the admin account or create one, and add a password to it. That will solve ur problem.
In Win XP Pro you can have only one session at the time. It other words it is not possible for you to remote into your pc and have someone else using it at the same time. If you want that ability you need Windows Server 03 or 08 and you would need to change it to terminal server. Check my UltraVNC tutorial, it my fit your needs. Thx for your question.

Let me words this as nicely as I can. If you are serious about your question, you should not be attempting to turn on your computer. In matter of fact, I would be puzzled that you made it all the way to 208.65.153.253 by yourself.

@1childish1 If you still don't know....
1) whatismyip gives you the public IP, the IP in the cmd is the local (private) address of the router
2) You need to portforward or create a virtual server in your router which directs to the ip of the computer you want to connect to
3) You need pro/ business/ ultimate for it to accept remote connections.

4. Is he using his own internet connection that he installed or is he using mine while

Hi again.
2) You should not delete the exe file. You should just turn off the program. This action is just as effective.
3) Absolutely not! While it is possible that he will get a virus in his computer, you should never, let a virus loose in your own hard drive
4) He needs to have access to the internet in order to access your computer. But, once he is in your computer, he can use your internet access to access site from your computer.
I hope this helps
Good luck.
BablioBr 3 years ago
Hi again and thanks again for answering.
2a. This action is not effective, he can still access my computer. I thought by physically deleting the remote desktop .exe I
could possible get him off.
3a. This was just a idea. He is always there each & every time I turn on the computer.
4a. Yes, he uses cable access to access the internet.
The last time I was on my old computer < then 10 days ago, he sent me 15 viruses, 2 received keys to activate, it did mess up my page settings.
warmachine2012 3 years ago
2b. If that's not stopping him, he is not using remote desktop. He is using some other type of program. I recommend you to install and antivirus and firewall. Also, if you have a router, you can possibly implement hardware firewall.
But anyways the name of the file is: mstsc.exe
