  • drummer Greame Edge using a double bass kit?!, last time I saw The Moodies he was using a single bass drum set up.

  • Not a gray hair on the stage?

  • Love the song, but the quality of the video is off a bit...Thanks anyway...love the song!

  • Lipsynching at its best. If the wires were pulled from the speakers you would hear silence because they aren't playing, haha.

  • @MysteryoftheGods I agree. As they got older they didn't sound nearly this good live. I think more that the video is real, but that the music and cheers in the background were dubbed in for youtube.

  • why do they somehow remind me of ELO?

  • @stonedpimpdaddy Becase Justin Hayward's voice sounds like Jeff Lynn, the Lead Singer of ELO, listen to the Moodys Song, Gemini Dream, they really sound Like ELO. Voices are very similar indeed:)

  • @stonedpimpdaddy

You need to rethink that one. The Moody Blues were around long before ELO. If anything, ELO sounds like the Moody Blues.

  • Denny Laine must have been good for Paul Mccartney to have him in Wings.

  • This band has been ignored by the rock media from the beginning because they are firstly outstanding Composers. Their songs have fantastic musical structures with regard to melody, harmony, form etc... Further, their lyrics always deal with life's most poignant questions. In a sense, they are poet composers acting in the role of Rock artists. It is natural that the mere mortals of the rock corporate cartels should resent their superior capabilities

  • @davejazzanova Well said. Peace.

  • Excellent, excellent... love it... encore, encore!!!

  • ......Legends..... From The Beginning.....

  • this song made me realize music is the real reason we exist

  • @bryjag1965 In an interview John and Justin said the reason they wrote this song was because they didn't know the reason we exist. Because their songs ask a lot of question, fans thought they knew the answers. This song was to tell everyone, "No, we're just singers in a rock and roll band. We don't know the reasons any more than anybody else." Great group. I have everything from 45's all the up to DVD's. I'm a long time fan.

  • I'm 47, which made me 4 when they started, so my Moody education and appreciation came a little later - and I've sure been making up for lost time since then!

God bless them all, and even though they say that they are "privileged" to still be in the music business, I'm certain that the honor and privilege has been ours as well. Their genius and true class has really enriched our lives, and always will.

  • why is Bernard Cribbins playing tambourine ??

  • You know what - bofablowsitall - If I were sitting on that front row - I wouldn't have cared if it were Lip-synced, Live or even on 'Mute' I would have LOVED to have been there! These guys are my Heros - for all these years....Thank you, JustinFan!

  • I like moody blues, but this performance is a track, the tambourine player's not even close, the voices of the fans there are real, but this is the studio recording. Good song, great band but lip syncing. They're not performing live.

  • I love the Moody Blues. I've listened to them before I came into this world! Mom is a big fan:)!

  • Same here!

  • I was too old when they started! I knew about them when they had the big Hit "Go Now" but never put 2 and 2 together at first when Justin Hayward came to the group! I too think the Moody Blues are the greatest British Band their music has lasted is the proof! I never get tired of their music when I play them over and over like I do with other Groups! They are the most unsung group! I meet many people who never have heard of them!

  • The Rock and Roll Hal of Fame is a farce and a sham! The guy running it only puts people in on his own whim! I read a article about him and the way he runs the R&RHOF! the list of people who should be in there and are left out is atrocious!

It is so bad that they are trying to build another R&RHOF in New York City where there will be a committee to vote real legends in! If the Moody Blues aren't in there it proves my point!

  • Absolutely agree with you. I`ve visited it in Cleveland and while its cool there are so many omissions. Chicago should be in, even though they are more pop they have had like 30+ hits and their early stuff with Terry Kath`s guitar was very rock.

  • Definitely CHICAGO and their CTA name should be there! It was funny when the cities's CTA sued them to change their name! Smile

  • They are better than the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame- Clearly they have always

BEEN IN A CLASS BY THEMSELVES

  • and ohh what year did this take place, email me

  • is the same drummer in this as in earlier videos ie from 72

  • I think they are just the best band of all time, period. Better then everyone in the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame combined.

Justin Hayward is the best musician of all time.

They're TOO GOOD to be in the Rock and Roll Hall OF Fame!

  • I agree,

I was listening their music in the high school days

It is great As for being active for no less than more than forty years.

  • KENZOWAL - as you said "THE BEST BRITISH BAND OF ALL TIME since I discovered them in 1967. Before they released this song, they had the following of a Messiah. So this song was a message to their fans that they weren't Messiahs. They were just singers in a rock and roll band!" A tribute to them for their honesty, integrity and selfishness. Their mark on the music world is astounding! Let's share with others and let them know what a truly incredible band this was and is.

  • TitusBass1, you're right . But the word is selflessness not selfishness!

  • I like so mouch but their sound is playback, sorry.

  • Hmmm. Disappointing lyp sync. Also rare -- Moodies usually performed everything live. Still a great tune.

  • The melodies of the Moody blues are so different and unique no rock group comes close.

  • he he he he hey hey hey hahhahahaha

    this is to good...

    freakin awesome song man !!!

  • wow wow wow, what a band. They don't make them like that anymore do they? Just a singer in a rock n roll band yeah, but they are obviously more than just that. I like their profound lyrics, and their tight instrumentals. Justin is the best rock band singer of all time. As time goes on, I'm in awe of their talent and their timelessness.

  • they can get down and rock with the best of them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!wow i kove everything they do!!!!!

  • The Moody Blues have been, for me, THE BEST BRITISH BAND OF ALL TIME since I discovered them in 1967. Before they released this song, they had the following of a Messiah. So this song was a message to their fans that they weren't Messiahs. They were just singers in a rock and roll band! That idea just blew me away! When have you ever heard of a band that used a song to lower their status with their fans? John Lodge (bass player) wrote this teriffic song. The best British band of all time.

  • Oh Heck yeah!!!

  • OMG....Justin is swaying! Thud.

  • why the hell isnt there a guitar tab for this song?!

  • I"m seeing them tonight!!!

  • Friendlyfarts(.COM)dummy duhhh¡¡

  • this was for eve19862006

  • jusst the best pop ever

  • NO , not pop

The very first of the progressive bands , like Elp and Yes

    The Moodys were the first

  • This is by far my favourite concert song

  • I love this song but I think its weird that they are simply strumming along to the record which was at the time 17 years old.

  • yea and you know whats even funnier this is one of the greatest bands and arnt even in the rock and roll hall of fame!

  • my date threw up in Baltimore Civic Center in '72, during "Story In Your Eyes".....I was 20, she was 18....the people in front of us scattered.....but one guy with long hair got peas and carrots full bore.....I was sick myself, but willed myself to be cool..carnal issues were done, forever.

  • Saw them 3/17/08, they've still got it....

  • love it, this is my son underdave's favorite song of theirs!

  • saw them on 3/12/08 in los angeles they kick ass

  • saw them on 3/22/08 in woodlands, tx :) was a bad ass concert

  • been listening to them since I was five and, i gotta tel'ya, the songs never get old,I just can't get bored with them.

  • saw them when they came to Eugene

  • Thank you for your good wish to the world, I sure want peace too. Let there be peace

  • playback

  • Where the hell is Patrick Moraz on the keyboards in this video??? MIA??? It's a terrific vid anyway...thanks for sharing!

  • It would have been better with Mike Pinder!

  • Dex does have a point, the Mellotron really brings this songs out with great emotion

  • Song*

  • A LIP-SYNC??? Sacrilege!

  • One of the best bands out of Birmingham.

  • also some guy in the states thought that they had come to save the world on a tour there. he called them false prophets, so they gave us this fantastic song.

  • MORE INFO ON THIS?

  • They wrote it in responce to a comment by a music critic in the Brit music press who said that they just can not rock!!!!!

  • I had the opportunity to see them in Charlotte, NC in 1994. They were absolutely awesome -- as usual! Long live the Moodies!

  • The Moody Blues is the greatest rock band of all time, hands down. This is their most important song since it came at the pinnacle of their popular and critical acclaim, yet it humbly states we're all just singers in a rock and roll band! I was a fan since Days of Future Passed, and when I heard this song I could not believe that such an infulential band could speak with such humility.

  • Wow is Rock'n rol yeah!!!!!!

  • I saw them in the early 70's but it was uneventful and all songs were exactly like on the albums but one of rocks great bands of all time nevertheless.

  • My Driving theme song everywhere I go in my car at max volume in Arizona, so if you happen to be in Fountain Hills, Scottsdale, or Phoenix and here this song blaring out of a car you know it's me. This song has a true and a difinative meaning that most will never understand. But it's an all time greatest song. Thank you John!

  • Help..loved the song nights in white satin in the 60's but who was singing lead then ?, and who singing in in your wildest dreams?john or justin..new to the video's so clueless.Hope to get to see and hear in person someday for now just glad i found the group that new how to write lyrics in the 60's and still can today.

  • Is that Captain Kangaroo on Tambourine?

  • ray thomas one of the founding members

  • jus tryin to make frenz eh?

no worries mate. we dont mind that you dont know the Captain from Mr. Green Jeans or Bun Rabid for that matter.

    :D

    welcome to youtube

  • Love this song................

  • Moody Blues are one of the very few rockers that can put out a good record. I remember them in the beginning as was born on Ringo Starr's 8th birthday.

  • The Moody Blues did write some poetic and philosphical lyrics. I was so impressed when I saw Justin Hayward in concert. His Licks on guitar go widely unnoticed by lotas of folks

  • herifler iyi abicim

  • the moody blues love all there songs long live the memories of what i was doing at the time they were on the radio

  • I've been a Moodies fan since day one. This is my absolute favourite concert song. They haven't been in my area since FEB. 06. I'm going through serious concert withdrawels.

  • This is a facinating study.. A beautiful irony, here is a band who has, arguably, written some of the most beautfully poigniant lyric in rock..yet humbly decry themselves as "just singers in a band" all to a driving beat..I suppose this renders the more pedestrian rockers as mere vulgarians.

  • Most everyone at the concert was an old fogey. Some fairy successful ones at that judging by the quality of vehicles I saw. Of course it's Horse racing season in Saratoga now. Lot's of bucks floating around.

  • I was behind a very frustrated, growling, Ferrari as I was creeping along in the traffic getting into the concert. Seems Ferraries don't like 3 MPH speeds.

  • I had thoughts in that direction, also in a higher up area of the human body, but was didn't want to offend. If 1964 means your year of birth...me too.

  • OK, got the ROFLM part and the O part. BB?

Yeah, Lodge was all over the stage. Justin seemed reserved half of the time. Seemed to spend a lot of time back near the drum risers when not singing, which really wasn't very often now that I think about it. Just sharing the stage I guess.

  • Good. He definately gets the audience involved. Seems like he might be kind of a funny guy in person.

  • AAH yes. And I Suppose that was Julie Ragins on the keyboards?

  • They sounded great last night. Played all the hits of course. I know you love John but personally I had a hard time taking my eyes off whoever that girl is that plays the flute. Their backing band, all of them were great...another girl playing keyboards, another drummer/percussionist/backup flute player when they had sort of a dueling flute thing going on.

The encore was fantastic...one of my favorites...

"Buy my Sea Salt" Heh Heh.

    Seriously, great show.

  • I just happened to be caller 11 in a radio call-in and won tickets to see them on 7/28/07 at Saratoga, NY. Anyone seen them lately? If so how are they doing?

  • Who Are The Original MB members? I am 44 years old and I am just becoming a MB fan. In the 80s the MB were not that big in my opinion due to a lack of publicity. The radio determined which band was big in the 80s.

  • The first version of the group was Denny Laine, Clint Warwick, Ray Thomas, Graeme Edge and Mike Pinder. Laine and Warwick left and Justin Hayward and John Lodge joined the group in 1966...that's the version most people know best. Pinder left the group after "Octave" and Thomas retired in 2003 so now it's Justin, John and Graeme. :-)

  • yes i know, but he did write alot of them though

  • Your right gillian...Justin is a great lyricist and a brilliant songwriter. :-)

He can put so much emotion and feeling into a song. His music touches the heart like no other I've ever found.

  • @JustinFan Yes! His songs touch my heart more than any other rocker. It's been that way since 1967 for me. It takes a way above average intelligence to truly appreciate this band and its songs.

  • one thing i love about them are justins lyrics, each song tells alittle story and a great meaning. i look great lyrics before the music, dont get me wrong the music has to be decent but the lyrics have to have a meaning and really touch me, which the moodys definately do that.

  • go moody's

  • im 29 going on 30. i got into them from my parents who are 61 and 64. they are great. and still going.

  • apwerner! ya said it all..quality never dies! everybody thats listening to this , at this time, you're all gonna go to heaven! (which, strangely enough, is a cosmic moodies concert!!) hey, i don't make the rules, im just a "witness"..

  • moody blues just awesome what more can i say

  • That was one awesome performance. I love this band.

  • I can't believe the integrity of this music. After all of these years it's remarkable that they can maintain this level of quality. WOW !!!!!!!!!!!

  • Yes indeed, BUT: I remember John saying in one of my MB DVDs that the meaning of the phrase "I'm just a singer in a Rock and Roll band" refers to everybody, the band, the audience, everyone that listens to the song - - we're all "singers in a rock and roll band." Kind of like John's commentary or view of life. Like saying we're all the same, whether we're on the stage or in our office job, or whatever we do. The words to this song are beautiful.

  • i miss that last drum crash!

  • Its the fact that forty years later people of all ages can still enjoy their music that makes the MB one of the classic bands that transcends time and ages. That in my book is a mark of true talent.

  • The fact that so many kids comment favorably on bands like the Moody Blues is kinda sad. As good as I think the MBs are, they are from my generation 40 years ago! Shouldn't kids today have their own bands?

  • As one of those "kids" (age 23, as I said before), I don't think it's at all sad. I think it's great that I can enjoy music from 40 years ago as much as some of the bands I love today. The MB just happen to be my all-time favorite, though there are some very close runner-ups that are more modern, if you will...

  • Today's rock 'n roll sucks.

  • Rock 'n Roll doesn't exist in today's generation, It's a long lost ("chord", MB pun) genre for bands that knew how to make great music, and the Moody Blues come the closest to redefining Rock 'n Roll

  • go ahead have your bands...why be sad when the Moody Blues are adored by their own generation...

  • Bands don't "belong" to anybody or any generation. The message is universal whether it's 1969 or 2007. Beauty is beauty...and the young kids today who love the Moodies have very good taste, if I may say so.

  • yea, great hair! (and kinda sexy too)

  • I introduced my son to the Moody Blues at a young age....the last Christmas present he asked me for before he passed away was their greatest hits cd set...really surprised me I must say....luckily I obliged and it is with him today...his room mates said he listened to it for hours on end. At least I know that he will have some good tunes waiting when my time comes !! RIP my son....

  • This is one of John's songs - it's an absolutely wonderful rocker. Damn, what a great song. Every time I listen to it, I don't want it to end. :) :)

  • A great song & video,it is however lip synched, also you can hear the chamberlin that was played by mike although he isnt in this video, virtually all their live videos made for tv especially in the U.S. are done with the studio recording being played, maybe thats what they preferred, still, its a treat to see these videos.

  • Yeah, this sounds way too much like the recorded version to be a live performance.

  • Maybe, but really who cares, they are awesome live!!! They continue touring because they love to...I just hope it doesn't end very soon. I will miss them, but thank goodness for youtube!!

  • Awesome, I love the Moody Blues.

  • Music at it's Best

  • have you got any idea why Ray left/

  • gout i understand and being over 60 touring was tuff. justin just turned 60 so ray is 65! on the road is tuff

  • What? How about the granddads from Rolling Stones?

  • Ray has gout and tired of touring, no one competes with Mick Jagger in the fit as a fiddle dept. lol!

  • lol, back at you.

  • no this is mimed. you can see damping pads on Graeme's drums.

  • love this

  • I can't tell if this is a 80's or 70's video? Eitherway, it is a far different

look and sound and stage movement of the performers compared to

the 60's black and white videos.

    Sincerely,

    Stanley

  • 1990's, according to my sweetie.

  • ray was always so stiff, love him though! thanks for posting!

  • Are they actually playing? I see amps, but i dont see a keyboard and it sounds too much like the recording. I still love this song.

  • They're definitely playing, but it's a TV thing so it might've been dubbed over with the album recording if the concert audio wasn't recorded properly. They tend to play all their concerts near identical to the albums.

  • I agree with that! Best concerts ever!! It seems to be a funny thing nowadays with my kids. When they listen to their favorite bands and then see them live! They will say "Wow, they sounded different"...I say "Back in my days they didn't have too much technology to do all the mixing and echoing and all they do to the music now".

  • It also has to do with the fact that The Moody Blues are infinitely more talented than the ridiculous jokes that make it up the "charts" nowadays. I'm 23, but my mother raised me on the MB, I've been going to their concerts since I was 5. You just don't find good music like that anymore. It's really sad Ray retired. I'm going to cry like a baby when the whole band finally takes their leave.

  • Don't even think it!! I will be very sad also!!

  • What a sad thought! I will cry for them too...
