Because the ears can range from straight up to multiple creases, they are all born with with their ears up as well. Folds aren't defined by just the ears. Maru has every other quality of a Scottish Fold.

That's a specious argument. Adult humans have experience and, hopefully, wisdom to inform decisions and minimize risks that exist. E.g., don't trespass on others' property, don't go to bad neighborhoods, cross streets when it's safe, etc. Cats , however, are like children , motivated by impulse and basic drives. When thirsty, they drink what's near - even anti-freeze. Hungry,eat from dumpster. Cross street in front of car, etc. The risks are multiplied and unacceptable if you love your cat.

How about the above with supervised recreation in your back yard occasionally? Cats need the right to be able to roam and be their own individual the same as people. If you care about the animals you are responsible for, then you will take care to keep them safe at all times. Of course they need stimulations to keep them happy, but that does not mean they should be 'able to roam and be their own individual' as you state.  That's not necessary and quite irresponsible!

It's irresponsible and selfish to lock an animal up out of it's natural environment and excuse it by saying it's 'safer' that way. If the animal doesn't mind, then so be it. But how many actually don't? A lot less then many owners claim because they want the pet to fit around their personal lifestyles.

Their chances of surviving is alot slimmer. It's heart breaking to see them on the sides of the road hit by a vehicle, or to see them scooped up by animal control knowing that the owner will never go look for them at the shelter.
