2. IGN obviously picked a guy that has no idea what the fuck he's talking about, as he refers to them as "plant" and "bird" "pokemons".
3. Not every Pokemon game is aimed at children. Does IGN honestly think a 7 year old will read all of that text? No. Will a gamer aged 13-17 read it? Yes. You don't have to be a child to enjoy the mystery dungeon series.
4. The dungeon layout may be a good argument, but wouldn't you rather have a slightly (cont)
@mastersword1000 ...a slightly different experience? There aren't going to be any walk-throughs for this game, IGN. I would think that Chunsoft intended to have the player adapt to a dungeon's setting rather then knowing every single Pokemon, and what the moves, level, and type are. It's not going to be a walk in the park; you have to be prepared for anything the dungeon has to throw at you. Think of it as a challenge.
5. The menus are clunky? What did you expect from a DS game? (cont)
@mastersword1000 ... It's not like we have a gigantic 1920x1080 HDTV to work with. The Nintendo DS is a portable handheld, and there are also button shortcuts for attacking (L+A) and even item throwing. Compared to Blue Rescue Team, the touchscreen controls are vastly improved. While certainly not a complete replacement, it is there if you get tired of having sore thumbs.
Don't do a review if you don't even know half of the material you're reviewing.
Really? I beat this game, and you say its for the younger audience, you kidding? I found the story beautifully made, and made me cry, heck I'm 14 and I still love it, in terms of difficulty, the first few dungeons are easy, but as the game progress it actually becomes a challenge, and I enjoy that. honestly, I'd give this a 8/10. you also get some charecter development, I wont spoil it, but its pretty cool.
this would be better if you could take you're pokemon from other games and allow them too explore by themselves in this game and then you transfer them back to the "real" pokemon game. like what the pokewalker does except it is it's own game and on a much larger scale. . .
first of u can tell he has probably never played pokemon because he didnt even say the right pokemon types. also, pokemon mystery dungeon was far from easy. Some dungeons had over 100 lvls. In fact i love it when some of the stairs are placed next me because if u wonder to much u can get killed, become hungry or a mysterious wind kicks u out the dungeon. I do not agree with this review
i REALLY hated this game because of the wigglytuff place, yes the game play was the same as the rescue team but at least you could keep all your money at the end of a mission, the game wasn't half way through before i felt the urge to kill wigglytuff and it took nearly a whole year to complete just because i could really be bothered to play it and i only got this game because i thought it was going to be something like the first one next i check the review before buying a mystery dungeon game.
just because its a pokemon game doesnt make it a good game im a pokemon fan and i didnt want to buy any of the game series of mystery dungeon but once i played one i loved the series so f**k u
This guy has a lot of nerve to say that just because its a Poke'mon game, doesn't mean its good. Are you kidding me?! Poke'mon is one of Nintendo's best selling franchises next to Mario and Zelda. Its popularity is why Poke'mon characters appeared in Smash Bros. I like the Mystery Dungeon series and I like playing as a Poke'mon. Don't tell that IGN is biased against Poke'mon now!
This guy has a grudge against Pokemon. The graphics don't matter as much as the rest of the game and shouldn't to any gamer. If the gameplay and storyline is interesting, challenging, and fun, why should you nitpick at the game just because it looks like a GBA game? If I remember correctly, the GBA was a smash hit and still is used today. And, if I am remembering correctly, I don't remember anyone nitpicking on it's graphics, do I?
I hate that reviewer >:( The Mystery Dungeon games were a refreshing, new step for Pokemon and well worth the purchase. The games in this review were a large step up from the first two in the series (longer story, more pokemon, etc.) and were a joy to play. If all Pokemon games were like Red and Blue, I wouldn't be as satissfied with the series as I am.
I think it's a great game. The partner AI is really stupid and pointless at times, but it has an amazing story and fun exploration. I would give it an 8.9.
This guy needs to stop stuttering. He sounds like hes being threatened to review this game. He should write everything down on paper, take a deep breath, have some spa treatment, maybe have a glass of warm milk, then try this so I have a chance to understand WHAT THE F**K HES SAYING!
"You Pokemon fans are going to pick it up regardless of what I say, just because it's a Pokemon game. But just because it's got a Pokemon in it doesn't automatically make it a good game"
This guy has a personal vendetta against Pokemon fans. He almost sounds like he's ranting.
This preview is not what i expected at least... Coz... I played this game and it really rocks. I don't care whether theres a dublicate or not, its a fun game. The storyline of that Grovyle and the others were intreresting and to most ppl, touching. The Pokemon Chosen may be abit at random but actually, there attitudes are sometimes funny and good to imagine it. Also, if u scan through Youtube, u may find over 100 shows of music soundtracks from this game. ;) I like this game. 9/10
This game is kick ass! What other game can you catch all the Pokemon without trading? He's just pissed because as you said, he doesn't know how to play it.
The storyline is interesting, but other than that it's pretty bad. The game gets repetitive and boring after a while. I liked the first one much better because the legendaries had something to do with the story line, but in this game, it's just like find 2 items run around and you can find it on one specific floor. I liked them as bosses much better.
I'm considering doing a review of my own for this game, but doing it in a way vaguely reminiscent of Zero Punctuation, in that it will be my voice talking very fast over images.
In any case, while Explorers really doesn't offer much gameplay-wise over the Rescue Team group, it does offer a rather compelling story that is at its best moments reminiscent of Chrono Trigger and at its worst moments reminiscent of the Pokemon anime.
One of the biggest advantages Explorers has over Rescue Team is the atmosphere. The Rescue Team games were very poorly characterized, with the world existing in a very vague sense and with very little real character interaction. In fact, it barely seemed to make any effort to get the player to care about any characters other than the player and the partner. Everything felt extremely generic and the plot was like Final Fantasy Tactics Advance with all the good bits taken out.
On the other hand, we have the Explorers games, which, while not exceptionally deep, provide you with a world in which you actually feel involved. I credit a great deal of this to guild concept. The Rescue Team games had you as a small freelance team detached from pretty much everyone else, while Explorers puts you as part of a guild with set other members who have actual personalities, even if said personalities are extremely simple.
The overall effect is that Explorers actually feels like the first time the Pokemon franchise has put any sizable amount of effort towards making a game that actually feels like a true fantasy RPG, and while a bit rough and spotty in the execution, if you're willing to mentally regress to the level of a prepubescent child for several hours the story will suck you right in and never let go.
One of the most important things about playing Explorers, however, is to go in with rather low expectations, which can actually work fine if your only previous experience with the Mystery Dungeon franchise was the Rescue Team games. The only notable improvement in terms of actual gameplay mechanics comes in how Explorers has made recruitment easier to do, since the game doesn't actively make it difficult for you by forcing you to buy Friend Areas.
i don't care what they say in this review as i COMPLETELY DISAGREE. its a great game. its quite challenging, not too repetitive, a few mini-games, and awesome boss fights. also add great music to that.
Eh, sorry gamefreakY, your not convincing anyone, I've nothing against pokemon, but lately it feels like they're just trying to cash in on the brand, actually it's felt like that to me ever since, was it ruby and saphire? What came after gold and silver?Anyway it feels an awful lot like greed, and not in a good way.
Well.........I see where you're comin' from, I just thought that another game developement company might do it better but I see what you mean.( when I play the game, I have worst time )
I agree with this review, when I got this game I was expecting to get THE actual experience of being a pokemon but I was wrong. The plot seems no different from the first game, the characters don't have any creative names or personallities I could relate to,and the gameplay is ridiculously plain and frustrating!!! It would've been better if Intelligent Systems had developed it because that company did such a great job with the paper mario games.( no offense to the people who like it )
I disagree, I mean I love paper Mario, but this is a mystery dungeon game, not a regular TBRPG. Suggesting Intelligent Systems would make this game better is just plain stupid, the only do TBRPGs.
i really enjoy the game and then this guy talks its not great...i really think it has great music... the dungeons are diffrent.... and its the second game that brought a lil emotion the gaming(first was pkmn md 1)....
i do agree on the graphics come on pokemon company its meant to be a step up from numbah 1 not a 1.5 its pokemon emerald to pokemon ruby and saphire theres on slight diffrences
That last comment by the reviewer was unnecessary and stupid. Don't assume all Pokemon fans are the same. We don't buy games just because there's Pokemon in it!

Obviously not a pokemon fan. There is no such thing as a 'bird' Pokemon. Or Plant Pokemon.
And the word Pokemon is the same word plural. You don't say "Pokemons" You say Pokemon.
