devin has the BEST guest vocalists on deconstruction, the bands represented are incredible: BTBAM, Opeth, Isahn, Gojira..... and I guess meshuggah XD
About the Meshuggah thingy, influence ? Maybe, but msot of you not even trying to dig deeper... check out some King Crimson and you'll heard lots of similitude the way Devin/Meshuggah and 98324284928285957298537328 other bands compose. Learn your classic.
@slunksters I never stated any form of Plagia or "copy/paste"! I was only pointing out one of the source of inspiration as I called as a "influence". No plagia involved. I can take like 8 different songs from Deconstruction Album and Kii and make you heard some King Crimson songs back to back and your "musical intelligence" will probably make some links there and there.
@lemanchot666 X) I've seen king crimson 3 times on a show, (aaah back in the day) And dude... If you just note that Dev have made some songs like "Quiet riot" wich is a cover of quiet riot... XD you won't surprise me but thx for your patronisation it's pretty funny X)
@SmithMetal84 Take a pill will you man? This guy is a great musicain and so are all of his band members! They are super tallented AS IS MESHUGGAH! The thing that is similar between the 2 bands is that each is setting a standard in the musical statements they are making and both have wickedly tallented band members. Devin is the modern day Frank Zappa. He is every bit as ingenious. I doulbt though he is trying to be anything or anybody but himself.
@rorygaven Sorry, I didn't realize I made your pussy bleed, ya butthurt cunt. Straightforward, primitive [REAL] metal >>>>>>>>>>> Guitar wankery bullshite. Well, to each their own, but seriously, this shit sucks, AS DOES MESHUGGAH.
@SmithMetal84 So what you saying is ur a woman on the rag in a mosh pit 24 hours a day? This sucks, that sucks, everything sucks and ur on ur period? Thank you for enlightening the rest of us faggot on whats really real.
@spidarz Well, depends what genre. But at random: Teitanblood, Midnight, Absu, Aura Noir, Skeletonwitch, Bastard Priest, Death Breath, Dead Congregation, Repugnant, Sadus, Ghoul, and millions fucking more.
@SmithMetal84 I know none of these bands what have they done yet? If they were any good they would have made heard of them from there. Devin is insane. His SOUND is incredible... none of metal you'll listen sound like this. Most sound like an overcompressed brickwall smashing your face repeatditly, Devin makes it smash your ear drums in way you can cum and moan. Take that kid, and return in your playground.
@SmithMetal84 Looks like I've been hurting somebody, "Engrish pls" been your only defense. You have no clue what you're got into or what you can argue with... so many stuff wrong ? Try to proove me wrong. Or again, making something "balanced" in a dynamic range of 16 bit is just as hard as "sodomizing a fly". All his albums and songs over this project sounds smoothly, crazy and produced in a unthinkable way which only can think of. Go back in your hole with your "Engrish pls".
@lemanchot666 Oh okay, so now we judge music by its production? By that logic shall we determine that Metallica is the best thrash metal band ever? Shut up you gimpy little ignorant twat, you don't know shit about metal. Go back into your mom's inflated vagina with your "crazy and produced in a unthinkable way which only can think of." At least try to get your point across clearer you tragic little queef. And while you're at it, clog up your vagina too you broken headed simpleton.
@SmithMetal84 rofl :D All his sounds ... mixed up with his Zappa'Ish/Crimson's style composing makes it insane... there's nothing else who sounds like this.
What am I missing about metal? Every1 ha sa drum trigged or MIDI tracked for studios overcompressed by a bunch of Distressor. Not that I dislike this awsome compressor but I could make a parralel in pop with the over use of auto tune. Most people works their art/project like if it was a recipe no feeling in the end.
@SmithMetal84 It's not cause you don't like it that the band is not awesome, I know only 3 bands of the one you've quoted, and none of them are as good as Dev, but I like the band you've talked about.
@ExtremeRecluse2011 meshuggah is the BEST at what they do.... and this is no where near what meshuggah does lol... this is Devin Townsend, another Epic mind Hard at work
You gotta love that he jokes about everyone ripping off Meshuggah, and then proceeds to have the ultimate Meshuggah rip-off a few songs later. He stole Fredrik Thordendal for the solo on Deconstruction, hehe.
@rypetkypar Umm, my first line says that he jokes about it so I'm pretty sure I knew it was a joke. Devin openly admits that Meshuggah is one of his influences, They have, after all, been around since 1991. He's obviously making light of the fact that so many people are ripping off Meshuggah even if they don't realize it. My joke was that he did the ultimate rip-off by not only grabbing a Meshuggah rif, but by having a founding member of Meshuggah write it and play it.
@Fiendin I honestly never thought that Deconstruction sounded like Meshuggah musically. I thought it was amazing even though he had fart sounds on it, but very entertaining.
I totally agree. Heard a lot of music but still Devin can be so surprising and awesome. Even more special about his music is how he can place melody into such crazy heavy metal riffs. As such, Deconstruction is a masterpiece, and we who listen to Devin are all blessed. Amazing song, amazing album, amazing artist.
@kunk76it try the Two last album of Between the burried and me, it's the main band of on of the singer of this track. You'll love it, if you don't already know them.
@RandomJackOfDoom I ve not took the time to listen the full album, but it"s sound so BTBAM like the song "Sun of nothing" from Beetween the burried and me
nothing at all like meshuggah. more like Devin Townsend. by all means NOT DJENT. nothing like it... at fucking all!!! piss in an over encumbered ass hole and invite your dad for scones!!!! ALL HAIL THE MIGHT OF UNCLE(everyones) TOWNSEND!!!!
@FellishBeast Its because almost all modern day metal bands including DTP, "rip off" Meshugah in some ways. Devin states Meshugah as one of his influences.
I love the album, but I just don't like this track. I don't know why, it just doesn't work for me and seems to be all over the place. However, the part from 8:20 I could listen to for the whole 11 minutes.
When I saw the album cover, I was like: hey, that looks like Chaosphere! Then I listened to this song, and when Devin started to sing "We all rip off Meshuggah!" I was kind of amused.
I really don't like the lyrics in this song. "I've tried to be true.. FOR MY WIFE AND MY KIDS!!" Just doesn't sit right with me. I mean, I'm proud of ya Devin that you got your life on track.. but singing about being a good family man is very contrary to metal and I know some of you will probably say that's good, but it's just really cheesy and preachy to me.
@lasoogneypubes I feel that is a rather short-sighted statement.. I don't think any of Devin's songs can be summarized by one or two lines from the lyrics. He's always been a guy that progressively crafts a bigger picture through his work. Please, take a look at all of the lyrics from this piece before making any judgements. It is a concept album after all, every song has its place. :)
@MortarMann I don't think that the entire song sucks, but I'm just personally not digging what he sings about for the first 2 and a half minutes at least. The rest is good actually.
@lasoogneypubes I actually think he does that on purpose for the sake of the story (it being a concept album and all). Contradiction is huge here for the main character: he says that in this song, but in the next song (Summaria) he starts off with "I will never know her love and I will never hold my child. I will never know my family and now it's over for me"
kind of helps tell the story of the characters' descent and failure and whatnot don't ya think? >D
@drewluv89 I mean it's a concept album but you know it's all about Devin. I personally don't give a shit about story lol. I just think the first two and a half minutes of this song are annoying, then it's pretty good.
@lasoogneypubes Dude i think you are missing the point. Remember, the truth is between the buns, so look for a deeper meaning than what the lyrics are. Often its sarcasm.
@lasoogneypubes Great job on the mature comeback sir. Sorry i thought we were having a discussion. Where did i say everything he makes is a masterpeice?
@mrghostnzl Yep actually choir and orchestra is fine and that includes the flute. Actually let me rephrase a little of what I said. Those lyrics that I mentioned are annoying regardless of genre. I don't think I'd like them in any song. I basically just skip the first 4 minutes of that song, it's like one of the only things I think that Devin has made that's crappy. BRING ON THE HATE DEVY DICK RIDERS!
@lasoogneypubes Everyone has their personal opinion.I dont enjoy the first about 3 minutes near as much as Devins other stuff. But its all awesome either way imo.Still id like to say with everything great Devin has brought us...he is unable to make anything crappy..even if he has a song that sucked ass..its awesome because its Devin.

@lasoogneypubes Dude i think you are missing the point. Remember, the truth is between the buns, so look for a deeper meaning than what the lyrics are. Often its sarcasm.

@mrghostnzl There isn't a deeper meaning.. I love Devin Townsend too but stop riding his dick so hard. Not everything he makes is a masterpiece.

@lasoogneypubes Great job on the mature comeback sir. Sorry i thought we were having a discussion. Where did i say everything he makes is a masterpeice?

@lasoogneypubes Where do you get your 'metal rulebook' from? Is an orchestra and choir in your metal rulebook? how about a flute?
mrghostnzl 5 months ago

That intro is taken from King Crimon's Larks Tongues in Aspic, pt. 2. Anyway, great song!
