  • Was earmarked to be captain of the England for 1966 I read, he would have been 29 then RIP.

  • Feb 1958 Manchester mourned the tragic loss of the greatest football players ever to grace a football field. They were young men who played the game with skill, determination and honesty making those who watched them (then and now) proud to be fans of the greatest club in the world. They will live forever in the hearts of true reds and their presence is felt at every game MUFC play. RIP to the babes we think of you everyday Manchester is still heartbroken at the loss of our boys.

  • i know a couple of people who saw him, who should know, and he was the best they ever saw.

    RIP

  • Fantastic video. He'd of become United's greatest player. And had there of been no crash United would of been up near, or even beyond, Real Madrid's 9 European Cups.

  • best player ever y did he that plane have to crash

  • im not afraid to say when i first learned of Duncan i nearly cried. To think, Bobby Charton said he's the best player hes played with, and he died at just 21. I dont think there can be any doubt that Utd would've surpassed Liverpools league title record years ago had the plane reached a high enough speed to take off. I know people will probably disagree with me but i think its a greater trajedy than Hilsborough because a few of the deceased could have been legends.

  • GREAT! ALWAYS IN OUR HEARTS DUNCAN!

  • brilliant video

  • Anyone know the name of the music?

  • It's an instrumental version of "Casta Diva" from the Opera "Norma".

  • Thank you very much.

  • imagine sir bobby charlton ,world cup winner for england and apart from breif spell away from manchester united he's been near 60 years at that club the players he has seen from bobby moore to gazza to rooney to best to cantona tolaw and all that came with these teams. and he has said duncan edwards was the greatest he will ever see, not has seen but will ever see.

  • The best Man Unt. for all times......it really was.....

  • man utd never had a better player not even the great georgie best came close to duncans ablity.

  • Whoever put thumbs down to this comment should be ashamed of themselves. The greatest British player EVER.

  • what a beast he was..R.I.P

  • r.i.p. legend!

  • Some of Edwards last words:

'What time is the kick off against Wolves, Jimmy (Murphy), I musn't miss that match.'

Just sums up his immensely strong character.

He would have been one of the greats if only he had lived longer.

    R.I.P

  • he is one of the greats he is the greatest

  • Bobby Charlton:I can remember one goal at Blackpool that summed him up.Somebody crashed in a shot that beat our keeper, but Duncan took it on the chest, passed it,demanded it back right away and ran the full length of the field. He smashed in a shot from about thirty yards and the goalkeeper was terrified..he ducked out of the way.And I'd never seen that before.

    from an old press cutting

    RIP Duncan

  • devilinred

I was privelaged to see Ducan a number of times before going overseas in the forces. Brilliant is not the word, he is a legend that every footballer should be told about.

I was in Hong Kong at the time of the air disaster, the whole of the squadron were stunned. We were given the rest of the day off

to pay our tributes to this wonder of the footballing world.

Rest in peace Duncan, we will always think of you every time that Manchester United take to the field.

  • The greatest ever. Think of Bryan Robson and Roy Keane together and you're probably half way there.

  • best better than duncan says who you who never sww edwards play where as people who saw edwards call him the best they ever saw you work it out who is correct.

  • thetoon99 - yea you're right, the "Trinity" of Best, Law & Charlton with Edwards would maybe have made Man Utd almost unbeatable. Unfortunately it's a delicacy that doesn't get served on the same plate. I'm not a Man Utd fan so I wouldn't have wanted it for their sake, just to appreciate the quality would have been enough. Maybe they could all have transferred to Nottingham Forest which is my team? hehehe

  • Don't forget about Tommey Taylor, but I dont think he would have been around for Law and Best

  • yes he was only 26 when best made his debute tommy would have been 31 so he may even have played with law for a couple of years upfront.

  • Hes a pure Steven Gerrard look a like I wish we got too see more of him imagine Best and Edwards in the same team that would surely be a sight to see

  • him and best in the same team would have been outstading the 3 way partern ship in the 60's of best, charlton, law would have had edwards init as well best on the wing cutting in law sniffing around the box with charlton in behind and edwards powering up the pitch and the four linking up play it would have been great.

  • From what I have read he was a fantastic athlete, sometimes playing for the youth team in the morning and the senior team in the afternoon. He must have been truely awesome

  • puase it at 1:33 he looks just like Gerrard

  • We keep the red flag flying high coz man united will never die! Flowers of Manchester

    we will never forget you.

  • harry gregg said of duncan edwards to new united fans that if you took what keane could do wit a tackle scholes could do wit a pass the power of vidic in the ari and the power of a rooney shot it wouldnt be close to edwards..........must of been some player

  • R.I.P Duncan.

  • I hear he had potential to be the greatest English player of all time, even the greatest player in the world to this day.

  • mate anyone who saw him say he is by far the best they have ever seen better than pele and best ect even liverpool fans say this.

  • aye i work with an almost 65year old bolton fan who has seen them all and he says better than anyone he has ever seen...the complete player. what harry gregg said about having keane's tackle, scholes' pass, vidic's power in the air and rooney's power on the shot and still not close is exactly what he says...would have been a joy to watch! RIP lad. NUMQUAM MORIBIMUR!

  • Of all the babes to die Duncans probably hurt the most because of the way he fought for life for 15 days. It sounded typical of him not to be defeated and to battle for his life, it has been a heart breaking week I dread to think how it must have felt at the time because this week it feels like wev lost them all over again and it hurt. Keep the RED flag flying high cos Man Utd will never die

  • he was gonna be the greatest footballer this country ever produced. we will never see his like again.

  • he is the best to ever play football fact even liverpool fans say it.

  • That is a brilliant video Dawn, MUFC will never die.

  • I'm Irish and a Liverpool fan but I feel the tragic loss of Duncan Edwards transcends both club and country loyalties.

In Ireland he is regarded as a legend as I'm sure he is all around the World.

It just makes me sad that we all lost out on such an enormous talent. Football is certainly the poorer at his loss.

Like all others I just wish he could have lived to fulfill all his own ambitions.

A supreme footballer, a true legend, worthy of the name.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a h-anam. (RIP)

  • everyone who saw him says he is the best player they have ever seen he could do what pele could do and alot more and he did it better i hav eheard.

  • An evocative and moving clip. I'm not a Man U fan but I only wish more games had been filmed in those days so we could know just how good he was. The goal against West Germany(?) was a cracker though.

From the comments of his contemporaries, it sounds like he was a huge talent who loved the game and was humble to boot.

A sad loss to English football but his legend lives on.

  • Thank you all so much to eveyone who has whatched my video of duncan edwards and thank you for your kind comments

  • What a fabulous tribute to who was, potentially ,the greatest footballer of them all.

    Duncan Edwards ,the Gentle Giant.

    R.I.P.

  • Thanks for creating this tribute. As a Dudley boy we talked about him as schoolboys and pretended to be him when playong down the local park (Grange) I have never seen to much footage oh him playing so good on you all those who have posted these tributes on Youtube. R.I.P Big Dunc.

  • if he had a longer career he would be better the george best FACT r.i.p edwards

  • wat a talent lost..

  • Visited his grave today in Dudley. In pristine condition and full of flowers and Man Utd scarves.

    So emotional!

  • R.I.P

  • the most sad and tragic talent lost of all times, Bobby Charlton said that Duncan Edwards was the only player who ever made him feel inferior.

  • i think ee as good as C.Ronaldo , Rooney anyone.

in them days they got on with it an were true pfoffessionals didnt piss about with money or women.

    sad sad loss

  • one of the best talents in the world, im a boro fan but my dad said he was amazing, and all the people you hear talk about him and the videos you see of him i think he could of been englands greatest player off all time possibly in the worl god blees you duncan edwards R.I.P (from a boro fan and a fan of great players)

  • Greatest player ever....a sad sad loss. Never forgotten Big Dunc RIP xXx

  • Jimmy murphy said he always smiles a little when he heard Ali say that he was number one. Because he knew that Duncan was

  • SUPER DUNCAN!

  • Sir Bobby said yesterday that he reckon Duncan would have captained England to World Cup Glory in '66 instead of Moore. On this evidence he would have done it sooner... '62

    R.I.P

  • Such a shame we never got to see the player he could have become. He was basically England's Pele, Maradona or Cruyff. A one in a lifetime player. R.I.P.

  • hope we all remember tonight

  • R.I.P

  • Uniteds flag is deepest red It shrouded all our Munich dead Before their limbs grew stiff and cold Their hearts blood dyed its every fold Then raise uniteds banner high Beneath its shade we'll live and die So keep the faith and never fear We'll keep the red flag flyin' here We'll never die we'll never die We'll never die we'll never die We'll keep the red flag flyin' high 'Cos Man United will never die!!
  • Fantastic video for a fantastic player

    Always remembering munich 58 R.I.P

  • How tall was he?He looks massive like Ferdinand.

  • Yea big lad aint he, alot more strength than ferdinand though

  • R.I.P all who died in that crash, especially Duncan, we United boys will always love you. Glory Glory forever

  • GOD BLESS DUNCAN AND THE BUSBY BABES

  • everytime i watch or listen to the 1958 crash i feel fucking sad..urghhhh..im a man united fan thru n thru..ugrh

  • R.I.P to everyone who died or was affected by the Munich air disaster. I hope the minutes silence is respected by Manchester City this weekend.

    YNWA

  • R.I.P

  • he looked like Sveven Gerrard

  • Lovely video and its nice for him to be remembered.I have been a Man Utd fan all of my life and had never really seen any footage of this great player. Its easy to think that most of the greats come from the more modern game, but after hearing some of things about Duncan its so tragic that he never got to really show the world what he could do. On another note and with no disrespect, I cant help but see a resemblance (face that is) to Steven Gerard. Just look at 2:45!

  • From an Arsenal fan.

The things you hear about Duncan Edwards makes it pretty painful to think just what might have been.

That bit at the end "he could break a team single-handed" is really touching.

I read a quote from Bobby Moore in his autobiography saying "I once played truant from school to watch Duncan play at White Hart Lane. There will never be another player like him.".

I think coming from a legend like Moore, it speaks volumes for who Edwards was.

    R.I.P.

  • U don't need Rooney's shot, Nemanja Vidic's header, Keane's tackle, Beckham's pass and Ronaldo's speed when u have DUNCAN EDWARDS

HE WAS THE FINNEST, THE BEST, THE AWESOME... BUT HE DIED :( might be we could call him the king, not pele..

  • If Charlton said he was the best then he WAS the best, no question.

    R.I.P Big Dunc

  • thak you . that was beautiful .

  • Brilliant tribute to the greatest of all time.

  • R.I.P Duncan

from a Gooner, but England fan ....

  • im a coventry city fan, but its still tragic that he died so young

  • r.i.p. duncan ! MANCHESTER UNITED FOREVER !!!!

  • When you hear the bleating about Beckham's 100th cap it makes you want to vomit. This young powerhouse earned a pittance but was proud to don his colours, club or country, and always gave it his best without a sulk or a multi-million dollar endorsement to fudge his judgement. Now of course, you get an England cap for driving the coach to Wembly.Duncan(had he lived)and Billy Wright would have surpassed 300 caps in todays game.

  • Never got to see Edwards but from what my cousin said he was truely the Greatest ever.

Shay all told the story of the first day he say Duncan Edwards play on a foggy saturday when he hit a shot from around the mid feild he hit the cross bar and split it in two

RIP DUNCAN AND ALL THE UTD STARS OF THE DAY

  • Tragic he died so young. Could have been one of the all time greats

  • an absolute legend class act

  • thetoon99 i agree with you all like charlton said you have law, best, cantona, giggs, but forget them the best player ive ever seen is duncan a complete player

  • Brilliant tribute to the greatest of all time.

  • a sad day when the plane crashed in munich not just for his family (and every1 else that died) not jut for united but for england. with duncan there we would of won more world cups would have been the dominant football nation, manchester united would have won more cups and the great man himself recognised by all as truly the greatest such a tragedy

the legend will live on rip

  • great video

  • Could have been the greatest player to ever live. Genius player.

  • i wish people would stop saying he could have been the greatest.search him up on google type in duncan edwards forum.everyone who saw calls hium the best they have ever seen.some fans who never saw him say he could have been but he is the greatest.

  • I've seen many videos of his genius. Has the same touch and dribbling ability as Messi and the strength of Keane. If you actually watch some videos of his skills and goals you may agree.

  • that's really sad....what a pitty! :'(

  • two players that my father has quoted is the very best he has seen is Duncan Edwards and John Charles, being only 22 i personaly havent seen enough of football in the 50s who would you compare them to the footballers now?..Cristiano Ronaldo?..

  • your best asking your father who compares but every one who saw duncan say there was no one like then or since and that he was best ever.he far better than ronaldo ever will be.

  • Actually you can't really compare the two...neither one of you ever saw him play so how can you say Ronaldo will never be as good?

  • he will never be as good as everyone who saw edwards said there will never be anyone as good.roanldo will not even be in the top 6 play ever.

  • sad and good video.

  • Its truly a pity that we never got to see duncan in full flight. From what i hear, he was truly a gem on the field.

  • he played left-half, left-back, centre forward and covered the whole pitch,

there wasn't a man he feared or a challenge he would back out of, a true giant of a man and the darling of the country

RIP dear Duncan, we still miss you

  • My grandad who supports celtic said he was one of the best he ever seen up their with best jimmy johnstone law charlton stevie chalmers etc etc

and i am a celtic man and the busby babes have a huge place in my heart

    R.I.P

  • just watched paddy clerand onmautv george colen was speaking at the end about george best he said we can't do without the george best's,johnny haynes, dennis laws and certinly can't do with out the duncan edwards.

  • whatever ask any old guy in the street if he was overrated they will say no.tell me a btter player playing today.

  • No way was he over rated. He was true class.

I don't support Man U, rather Pompey but my grandmother was his aunty. Queenie Edwards.

But honestly he was that good.

  • Sad when people can't see past their own blinkered club loyalties. A great player is a great player, no matter what shirt he wore.

  • he is not overrated ask someone in your family who might have saw him or a neirbour

  • The only one ot have over rated a legend like duncan ......have to disagree with you here

  • Wonderful to see this tribute to a football genius, thanks man!

  • overrated why he was better than pele you ask a fan who saw them all say was pele better than best and maradonna they will say yes but they will all say duncan was better.

  • happy birthjday on monday

  • there has a never will be anyone as good as duncan what i have read is amazing according to fans pele is average compared with duncan.billy wright once said theres no one to have ever touched duncan.

  • and bobby charlton sed tht he was the only player 2 make him feel inferior, and hes playd with best, law, moore, hunt, banks and against pele, beckenbaur, muller

  • starge i told my mum that he looked like gerrard and even strange somefans have said on duncan website he was simaire to gerrard ect his energy non stop running driving foward.

  • yerr but he was a centre back aswel! amazin

  • the best man u ever had best was great but i have heard he was no match at his best for big dunc just think edwards had another 7 years of improving.just think his pace, strethe, power, control, passing, crossing, jumping, heading and more becoming so much better it so scary to think of how good he could have been but fans who saw him will have memories of how good hewas which was the best ever.

  • people who think pele is the best ever he's not yes he is the best ever to have played a full career but as it said there duncan edwards best of his genaration by the age of 21.he is a legend.and deserves the title best ever.

  • if he never died god nows wat would of happend!

  • just showes you how good he was that he's conisidered the greatst of alltime by people who saw him including bobby charlton and tommy dockerty he came from the same era as pele and best but best never played with duncan because of duncans death but they are classed as from the same era.

  • good video mate anymore of him playing or people talking about him the greatest of his genaration and yet he is not said in the same breth as defano, pele or puskas of that time is a shame he is the best ever.legend the biggest legend of alltime
