  • How about a favorite decade?

  • a song about going out on a saturday night, getting crazy. some things never change.

  • this whole concert is fantastic! even beats barcelona imo!

  • Mas del boss me vale EAEEEEEEEAAAAAA seeeee...

  • "Where did my hat go? Is it down here?" Priceless.

  • This album is a MUST for any Bruce fans....best live album from maybe anyone-first time he ever played Europe....

  • Holy balls the band is tight in this-- Bruce's voice is thick as ever-- this whole performance is BADASS!!!

  • man, bring on the summer nights w/the windows rolled down with no place to go and in no rush to get there..

  • Fucking great, this. Even their clothes look cool!

  • because that was when men dressed like men! I wish guys would act, dress, and make songs like they did back then. I was born in 88 and have only experienced the sissified generation of mine including 90s man and even worse...effeminate hipster lady boy

  • @pfunkmaster21 I'm 21 too bro and I'll tell ya.. I'm with you 100%. It's sad that even though I'm at college and want to rock all night to Bruce, the Stones, Thin Lizzy and others.. People think I'm nuts. Spirtits in the night or Lady Humps?? Is it really that hard for people to want to listen to good music?

  • fuck manfred manns disco version this is the SHIT! tha night was dark the moon was yellow and the leaves came tumblin down a nod to the grat lloyd price one of the REAL kings of rock n roll!!!

  • i wanna know where i can get a stove pipe beanie like bruce is wearing, that thing is sick

  • They were a sonic explosion!

  • crazzzy brilliant awsome! outstanding

    !!!!!!

  • the visionary the performer that which is the almighty bruce springsteen!!!!!!!!!!

  • great post!!! i'm torn between rosalita and spirits as my fav. from this show. 5 stars on the audio - tight band. think i'll listen to this 2x

  • ROFL @ 5:48.

What I wouldn't give to have been there...

  • cant decide btwn this song, thunder road, or Lost in the flood as my favorite bruce song.

  • you should add she is the one to your list ;D

  • oooh thats a though one one bro.

  • @theTOOJ same, but after quick deliberation i would say lost in the flood.

  • @theTOOJ why decide? its completely understandable not to be able to come up with a favorite bruce song. Better to have many favorite bruce songs

  • The Songs Called Spirit In The Night! Not SpiritS :)

  • Roy Bittan at 3:45 (UNREAL)

  • That are the great musicians which are still playing with him as E-Street-Band. Clearance Clemens - sax

    Roy Bittan - piano (phantastic!!!)

    Steve van Zandt - guitar

    Max Weinberg - drums

    Dan Federici - organ

  • Nope, Federici sadly died last year.

But how could you miss out Garry Tallent??? One of the best bass players ever!

  • Oh Man! Crawling down a crack in the stage. Doesn't get better than that.

  • well can you tell me who's playing the sax? how about lead guitar or the keyboard players? but in your defense i am an asshole for my comment to justinc18. sorry justinc18. I'll never comment on youtube again.

  • who's the drummer? what the fuck?

  • WOW! They're on fire!

  • The E Street Band... damn, they were good...

  • max weinberg

  • This really is such an amazing song. Might be my favorite Bruce song..

  • SHOOT RIGHT THROUGH YA!

  • "i said i hurt she said honey let me heal it"

    great stuff Springsteen

one of my favorites of his

  • My first show was 2 weeks before this show. He sat on my chair singing this and I have not come down since. And he was wearing the same jacket which smothered my face completely.

  • When I saw Bruce in 1978 in San Diego he played this and came into the crowd and I shook his hand. It was soooo cool!!

  • Insane!

  • OMG!!! :D

  • SO BLAZED!!!!!!!

  • I hear a lot of Dr John in there too.

  • Anyone who has a problem with his "crotch shot/slide" at the superbowl needs to see this, it's just how he performs, all out like a kid in a candy store having the time of his life. if that's cheezy then lay it on, because he's always been so secure in his performance that he doesn't care what he looks like and that's more "real" than any posing punk or rapper draped in bling will ever dream of. rock on Bruce.

  • Well said!

Springsteen just lets himself go. He doesn't worry about how his every on stage move is going to be interpreted by the 'cool' police. The New York DVD, is just about as good any performance captured on film.. but his antics in it at times- especially when he brings Steve and Patti to the front for what I could only describe as a 'crotch thrust fest'- are cheesy in the extreme. But he doesn't give a shit, because he is 'cool' and anyone who can't see that.. well its their loss...

  • No kidding. I think you have to be partly brain dead not to love everything he does.

  • hmmmm. im sure that im not brain dead, and as far as his antics go, more power to him in my opinion. if you have that much money im sure you dont give a fuck what people think of you, and im absolutly sure that he had fun doing it, but as far as being braindead not to love everything he does, i do not love the way he sings his old songs nowadays. i much prefer his older concerts (pre 85). to be blunt, i dont like his voice nowadays, he sounds like a country folk singer and thats not my style

  • I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said that. Probably lots lots of intelligent people with great taste like some of his stuff less than I do.

But so far I really love everything he's ever done.

  • oh its no problem dude i totally understand where u coming from. i mighta said the same thing, but only ida said it like youd have to be braindead if you like his new stuff more than his old stuff. b/c thats just my opinion, doesnt make it right or wrong, but goddamn he was fantastic back in the day. ive listened to the live 75-85 album more times than i can count. if you dont know, try looking up 1978 pheonix prove it all night. omfg that song is so fantastic. wasnt on the box set tho :(

  • You are both right. I think his voice has changed. But, I don't think he can help that. He's 34 years older. I just believe that when I saw him last, April 26, 2009 (Atlanta), it was the best show ever. But, that's because this old stuff wasn't in my head. Life sucks because none of us can go back in time really, except YouTube helps a bit.

  • @rachelreck Well said....BRUCE!!!!

  • Ah soooo sweet.!!

  • This whole gig is phenominal, performed with energy and feeling - hell, it's almost theatrical!

  • love the part where he's crawling over the podium en falling of it

  • my mum sent me that hat -- truth

  • Thats a tea cosy he picked up.

  • i seen him in Greensboro last nite. It was awesome.

  • You can really hear Van Morrison's influence in this song !

  • If you have ever been a teenage in the US, then you can relate to what the boss is singing.

  • I think I really dug her -- I was too loose to fake heeeeeeeeee heeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • This is such an amazing song and performance.

  • what are you talking about, bruce is my favorite artist, but elvis made blues mainstream way before the boss, elvis had a lot of blues tunes he did as well as all the other country rock and various styles,

  • I saw him on saturday. He did this song and it was awesome.

  • AWESOME the whole gig!! Only seen Bruce 7 times, wish i could have seen this live!! He's still the man, even at 58 years old!!

  • where'd my hat go, is it down there. LOL

    Bruce is the best.

  • Incredible! Love the concert, Bruce and the ESB!

  • Freaking awesome! I love the whole concert!

Bruce is the best, nobody writes lyrics like he does

  • Very great sax performance!I like how the choir is coming with a "in the night/oh night" after every "Spirits in the night"!Great: 5 stars from me!

  • bruce can sing it up... but the blues was born way before this time in his career.

  • Fantastic performance! It's great to see Bruce & Co. back when they still had the full fire & passion of youth.

  • had?

    jk

    :D

  • Yes, had. Back then they "had the *full* fire & passion" that isn't there today. Don't get me wrong, BS&TESB are still great, they're just not as hungry as they used to be.

  • NO they are not this early music had such a gritty street feel and its the music of the street filled with desperation that they no longer have. mabey they should go slumming and get some of this magic back! M

  • dont give him a minus for that comment, its true! i would give my left nut to go back in time and see him in the mid seventies. my god that would be it for me

  • Thanks, FurBalls99 & oipbhakeld! In the Hammersmith Odeon concert you can FEEL the anger, passion, & fire in your blood!!

  • @Salieri47 i saw them in october. 35 years later and, trust me, they've still got the full fire and passion of youth. it's like nothing's changed

  • Brilliant!

  • glammer...thanks, this really rocks!

  • Bruce looking like De Niro in 'Meanstreets'!. His phrasing as a singer is just spot on here, and what swing he's got! If you're looking for the definition of cool, here it is folks.

  • "Where did my hat go? Is my hat down here?" at 5:50 is classic.

  • You just can't beat the Odeon performance. The best of the best!

  • What's with the pimp hats?

That was all the rage in the 70's wasn't it.

Funny seeing a white guy of privelage from the 'burbs of New Jersey wearing underpivelaged clothing...lol

All the world is indeed a stage folks

    Good tune though

  • White guy of privilege? Bruce's dad was a bus driver

  • Hey that's privilage ...

My dad washed the bus that bruces dad drove

  • well you sir are my hero

  • Unbeeleeevable!!!!!! Always loved this song - this is a great rendition of it....GO BRUCE!

  • It's beautiful how Springsteen trusts his band, putting his guitar aside and letting them carry him. If you take this Hammersmith Odeon material, and add in the Southside Johnny/Springsteen version of The Fever, you got some serious essential rock 'n roll.

  • Great pace. Much faster than the more recent concert versions.

  • wait why was he pissed.. this show rules!

  • The documentary about the making of 'Born to Run' explains why he was PO'd. I can't accuaratly explain, but it had something to do with how he was promoted in London.

  • whoever loaded this i dont care if yer a dude id kiss ya right flush on the lips! lol

  • You know, I think pieces like these are gem. I mean fucking a, anyone on Hammersmith Odeon... it's something else. And fucking fantastic to hear Bruce groove n' voice. ;)

  • i think some of the performances from this show are amazing, some are just okay. i wasn't a big fan of lost in the flood, and while i liked the piano workon For You , i prefered the singing from his latest version over hammersmith.

  • The sound is awesome for a live recording. Max Weinberg never sounded better :-)

  • no not him, springsteen historians consider this the worst show of the time period cuz bruce was pissed when he arrived in london

  • come on, it's great :)

  • uc

r u on crack?how can you call this show one of the worst!listen to lost in the flood from the same show!

then tell me how u fill!

  • great show, but it should be known that it was clearly one of the worst shows of the period

  • Bloody fantastic.

But did he get his hat back?

  • Best Springsteen live preformence ever.... The show at hammersmith rocks!!

  • yeah!!really nice

  • Well I sure am diggin it. Nice recording. Mucho Thanks. Feeling like I just got lucky.

  • Best song in the whole world...

  • couldnt agree with you more.. absolutely fantastic..

  • That was fantastic. Thank you so much for posting.

  • absolutely amazing. Bruce is the most talented man alive.

  • beautiful

  • I agree

  • That should be For, not form. Pardon the bad typing.

  • Form my Money, Springsteens best song!
