I bought the album before seeing any of this live footage and I finally now know where his hat goes. haha. I kept wondering that listening to the track.
because that was when men dressed like men! I wish guys would act, dress, and make songs like they did back then. I was born in 88 and have only experienced the sissified generation of mine including 90s man and even worse...effeminate hipster lady boy
@pfunkmaster21 I'm 21 too bro and I'll tell ya.. I'm with you 100%. It's sad that even though I'm at college and want to rock all night to Bruce, the Stones, Thin Lizzy and others.. People think I'm nuts. Spirtits in the night or Lady Humps?? Is it really that hard for people to want to listen to good music?
fuck manfred manns disco version this is the SHIT! tha night was dark the moon was yellow and the leaves came tumblin down a nod to the grat lloyd price one of the REAL kings of rock n roll!!!
well can you tell me who's playing the sax? how about lead guitar or the keyboard players? but in your defense i am an asshole for my comment to justinc18. sorry justinc18. I'll never comment on youtube again.
My first show was 2 weeks before this show. He sat on my chair singing this and I have not come down since. And he was wearing the same jacket which smothered my face completely.
Anyone who has a problem with his "crotch shot/slide" at the superbowl needs to see this, it's just how he performs, all out like a kid in a candy store having the time of his life. if that's cheezy then lay it on, because he's always been so secure in his performance that he doesn't care what he looks like and that's more "real" than any posing punk or rapper draped in bling will ever dream of. rock on Bruce.
Springsteen just lets himself go. He doesn't worry about how his every on stage move is going to be interpreted by the 'cool' police. The New York DVD, is just about as good any performance captured on film.. but his antics in it at times- especially when he brings Steve and Patti to the front for what I could only describe as a 'crotch thrust fest'- are cheesy in the extreme. But he doesn't give a shit, because he is 'cool' and anyone who can't see that.. well its their loss...
hmmmm. im sure that im not brain dead, and as far as his antics go, more power to him in my opinion. if you have that much money im sure you dont give a fuck what people think of you, and im absolutly sure that he had fun doing it, but as far as being braindead not to love everything he does, i do not love the way he sings his old songs nowadays. i much prefer his older concerts (pre 85). to be blunt, i dont like his voice nowadays, he sounds like a country folk singer and thats not my style
oh its no problem dude i totally understand where u coming from. i mighta said the same thing, but only ida said it like youd have to be braindead if you like his new stuff more than his old stuff. b/c thats just my opinion, doesnt make it right or wrong, but goddamn he was fantastic back in the day. ive listened to the live 75-85 album more times than i can count. if you dont know, try looking up 1978 pheonix prove it all night. omfg that song is so fantastic. wasnt on the box set tho :(
You are both right. I think his voice has changed. But, I don't think he can help that. He's 34 years older. I just believe that when I saw him last, April 26, 2009 (Atlanta), it was the best show ever. But, that's because this old stuff wasn't in my head. Life sucks because none of us can go back in time really, except YouTube helps a bit.
what are you talking about, bruce is my favorite artist, but elvis made blues mainstream way before the boss, elvis had a lot of blues tunes he did as well as all the other country rock and various styles,
Yes, had. Back then they "had the *full* fire & passion" that isn't there today. Don't get me wrong, BS&TESB are still great, they're just not as hungry as they used to be.
NO they are not this early music had such a gritty street feel and its the music of the street filled with desperation that they no longer have. mabey they should go slumming and get some of this magic back! M
dont give him a minus for that comment, its true! i would give my left nut to go back in time and see him in the mid seventies. my god that would be it for me
Bruce looking like De Niro in 'Meanstreets'!. His phrasing as a singer is just spot on here, and what swing he's got! If you're looking for the definition of cool, here it is folks.
It's beautiful how Springsteen trusts his band, putting his guitar aside and letting them carry him. If you take this Hammersmith Odeon material, and add in the Southside Johnny/Springsteen version of The Fever, you got some serious essential rock 'n roll.
The documentary about the making of 'Born to Run' explains why he was PO'd. I can't accuaratly explain, but it had something to do with how he was promoted in London.
You know, I think pieces like these are gem. I mean fucking a, anyone on Hammersmith Odeon... it's something else. And fucking fantastic to hear Bruce groove n' voice. ;)
i think some of the performances from this show are amazing, some are just okay. i wasn't a big fan of lost in the flood, and while i liked the piano workon For You , i prefered the singing from his latest version over hammersmith.
