Enjoying your lessons. Very helpful. I hope you keep them coming. Got a chuckle out of the facial expression at the end of "I Can't Give You Anything But Love." Eventually, I wonder if you would consider a lesson on how to move away from the arpeggio exercises, which I realize are crucial, to making music. Or maybe that just comes as a natrual extension of the practices. Thanks!
@Tim - I love your arrangement of this classic! I never get tired of this song. I'm tempted to ask about the tomatoes and cucumbers but will keep on topic. :D
Hi Tim , liking all you new stuff by the way , but back to this one.
The turn around you do at 1.40 is slightly different to the begining bit and I can't quite pick out the 2nd chord your playing. Is it Bm6 or E9 or something else?
Tim, what mic & interface are you using to record these videos? (for the gypsy guitar, and the Laney amp)
BTW, Great playing and lessons. I've personally benefited quite a bit from them. I've been playing your etudes, and that's how I finally started to sound somewhat like a GJ player...
wow cant believe ive found this lesson! about ten years ago i had a jazz guitar cd which had a version of this by george barnes and loved the song. it was a song i really would love to be able to play but never thought id do it until now.. thanks ever so much for tabbing out the chords and melody!
your website is full of great hints and tips.. have you everr heard the george barnes version.. its awesome!
Hey Tim! i love your lessons and your other videos, you're a great player! I have a question though that has been bugging me. for the voicing you use for the Gmaj7/6(the first chord) how do you barre the 2nd finger with out muting the note that the 1st finger plays, while also barring with your 3rd finger, and playing the bass with your thumb. haha i hope that made sense! my main problem is with the barre of the 2nd finger.
@SamiKun Thanks! The chord is quite tricky to play at first but it's just a matter of practice! Maybe start with just the 3rd and 1st finger, then add the second finger just on the D string being careful not to mute the G string. When you can do that place your 2nd finger between the 4th and 5th strings to play both of them. Finally add your thumb and voila! - permanent damage to your left hand! No, only joking but make sure you do it gradually if you're experiencing any pain.
I think this tune was written (by Jimmy Mc Hugh) in G, but because of the horn-based nature of most jazz, it's most often played in F or Ab. So good on you & Django for honouring the writer's key!
Question! I´m all new to gypsy jazz, at least I have very little experience to it. I´m wondering about the right hand technique. Should I use a pick, or just the index finger to pluck the notes, or what?
I´m looking through some of your exercises right now, and I´m having some trouble with the right hand. A great site by the way!
@StragonRage Gypsy Jazz chord voicings are quite strange to someone coming to them for the first time. Just persevere with them and it will get easier. It's worth it!
hey what kind of guitar is that you are holding? It looks like a steel string but it has the head of classical string guitar. Also what brand? It has a great sound.
@chickenmanstan It's a steel string guitar. Do a search for "Selmer Maccaferri", that will tell you about the type of guitar. Mine is made by Godefroy Maruejouls.
@thrip Sweet, thanks. Also I found it difficult to find a proper fingering for the first chord on the chord sheet for this song. I think you called it a G6.
First, thanks Tim for the lessons they are terrific. Second, to superchang847, go and buy one of Godefroy's guitars they are not that expensive compared to many others and they are without a doubt the best sounding guitars of their kind.Godefroy is a wonderful luthier to deal with. I regret not buying one of his instruments. As for cost. For what I paid for a handmade Dell Arte, sold at a loss and picked up a used Busato Luxe it would have been cheaper to buy Godefroy's, and I would be happier
Hi sir - I really enjoyed this, could I ask at the very beginning, what are the chords to the into? Cheers

Hello and thanks! My answer would be, yes, you certainly should be using a pick. GJ guitar players are obsessed with right hand technique!
Try to play with as many downstrokes as possible, and when changing strings ALWAYS stat with a downstroke.
