I used to listen the the 8 track of this performance way way back (going on 30 yeras now). This is still one of favorite programs ever. And the drum line - unbelievable - great writing and great performance.
It's amazing how much change there was between 74 and 73. 74 seems so much more modern. They start in the back instead of the side, hornline had much better tone quality, less screaming chicken, drill was more advanced.
What's funny is when you watch other corps from the same year you realize how much ahead of their time SCV was.
By the way, what ever made Gail decide to start a corps show with one of hardest orchestral excerpts out there but make them play it on one of those crappy bugles?
Somewhere thier exists The Muchachos prelim performance from this same show. I have a black and white copy of it, but would like to find the orignal color version. Anyone have any thoughts?
I get more enjoyment watching videos, like these, of DCI, before the year 2000, than watching what DCI currently has going on there days. It should not be that way, but it is.
@MarineBugler You are definitely not alone... I had not been to a show since I marched in the 90s until last year. I was sooooo pissed, I thought that I had ended up at a BOA show by mistake. I gave it another chance this year... I had to look at the program to know what ANY corps was playing. Well, Spirit DID play Harlem Nocturn, that was the only song that I recognized from any of the shows I watched.
hey uh wheres the part two ? can you please post it :)

Is that "Bubba" at 5:09 playing soprano in the front, just to the left of the line?
