I love the song! I wish I could get it on iTunes in Australia with both of you. this song is beautiful! Matt compliments Tom so beautifully, very touching! Great job guys!
Hi my name is Tony and I am from Australia, I will attempt to respond to your question as best as I can. The above are two talented song writers and singers who happen to be gay and have written this song in response to a military law that was discriminating against gay and lesbian persons in the US military,An 18-year-old law that prevented serving US military personnel from disclosing that they were gay. This law was eventually abolished thanks to the hard work
@sarourikakashi of those such as the men in the video above, who spoke out against this. I will attempt to translate the video for you as best as I can.
My name is Mike Alming, I served as a major in the united states air force leading a unit of nearly men and women. I served for four tours of duty in the middle east in saudi arabia and Iraq, and I was discharged under the 'don't ask, don't tell' law after the air force searched my private emails that I wrote to my family and friends
@sarourikakashi while i was deployed in Iraq. Ultimately the discharge proceedings lasted sixteen months before I was finally thrown out. My security clearance was suspended and on my last day in the military I was given a police escort off of my base
My name is David Hall, I served five years enlisted in the air force as a staff sergeant before being let out early to go into air force ROTC (reserve officer training corps). One year into my cadetship/training I was kicked out
My name is David Hall, I served five years enlisted in the air force as a staff sergeant before being let out early to go into air force ROTC (reserve officer training corps). One year into my cadetship/training I was kicked out under don't ask don't tell, even though I was ranked number one of my class and I had just recieved my pilots slot. So instead of flying planes, I nolonger have a career in the military
@sarourikakashi Song: written and sung by Tom Goss and Matt Alber
This is who we are.
Stone steps, stone heart, back turned on a heroes part, the earth shakes and swallows the hope of man.
Red face, angry eyes, discharged from a body of lies. Your questions they couldn't be more out of line.
Why won't you ask me, now about my greatest love? so I can tell you the greatest story of two wild hearted lovers who were sick of holding hands in the dark. This is who we are!
@sarourikakashi Blind folded with weights in your hands, this decision is greater than just one man. So stand up and speak in your loudest voice! Cos(because) Justice delayed is justice denied. I'm so sick of hearing how your hands are tied, give me one good reason of why your still holding onto these lies, instead of feeding me lies why don't you ask me about my greatest love? and I would tell you the greatest story of two wild hearted lovers who were sick of holding hands in the dark.

Awesome song! I was discharged before DADT, after the Navy read an outgoing piece of mail. I would have likely been a lifer as I loved my job in the Navy and was proud to serve my country. In the end, I felt a failure. It took many years for me to overcome these feelings, thankfully I have.
When DADT is declared Unconstitutional, will you be able to get an honorable discharge, back pay, and an apology? Knowing the US military, you're probably not holding your breath. Beautiful song, powerful lyrics. What great role models for our GLBT youth, especially the fragile ones. Thank you.
@tahoemack Yes I agree; back pay for loss of earnings; damages for loss of career prospects in the interim; damages for breach of Constitutional rights; damages for humiliation and degradation.
Great song .....a testimoney to the integrity of those who have endured the spurious platitudes of those in Govt and Congress who have failed to live up to the ideals and words of the Constitution.
Shame on Congress and Obama and especially on that monument of hypocricy; McCain.
You know what, I am a 100% straight female, but why in the world is the military jobs able to discriminate against gay people. IF YOU APPLIED AT WALMART AND THEY SAID SORRY NOPE YOU ARE A LESBIAN, you would have a HELLUVA law suit on your hands. *Shakes head* DADT makes no sense.
The tides are turning ... equality and acceptance will happen but in too many places in the world it's happening way too slowly. Awesome job guys. My first time hearing you sing ... really talented. Thanks for putting this on YT.
Thanks to Matt and Toms for the poignant lyrics and beautiful melody of this is who we are. thanks to the two former military men for telling their story out loud!!! Imagine what it would be like if we could get ALL closeted gay people to tell their stories. It would mean the end of DADT and other unfair/unequal laws!!!
I hate how people think that we are the land of the free! Fuck that shit! If people can't be how they were born to be then why not just exile people for being human!
dumb ass congress and president, an executive order from the president can do away with DADT.... it's long over do.. The homophobes will have to live with it... The military kicked out needed linguist in Arabic and Russian... way stupid
58mikey, you're right. While Obama can't reverse the policy itself, he does have the power to de-fund it, and prohibit investigations. Obama is spineless.
