They showed the F-14 firing two missiles on the same target. That is a rather common tactic, when you know your enemy has flairs, or you do not have an accurate target lock.

The U.N. Spacy's F-14 jets shown in the video are not standard F-14s. Those are F-14 KAI fighters, whch are basically F-14s upgraded with advanced avionics with technology obtained from the SDF-1 alien spacecraft. However, they are still no match for a variable fighter, since they are slower and less maneuverable. I should also add that Nora, the enemy variable fighter pilot was also an ace, so fighting and wining against her in a F-14 KAI was practically impossible even for a pilot like Shin.

@JPSwissCheese Is not a show. Is a miniseries of sorts. Is a 6 episode OVA (Original Video Animation) called MACROSS ZERO (2002). Is a prequel to MACROSS (1982), the original japanese show from where the 1st part (generation) of ROBOTECH (1985) was created. Is easy to find in the web right now... Just check any decent anime download site.

I like how the VF-0S is modeled after the F-14. Shin taking on on an SV-51 is f#%&ing bad#%& right there. LISTEN UP PEOPLE! THIS AIN'T DUMB#%& ROBOTECH because it was aired in the US. Macross didn't make it to the US due to some stupid copyright reason I believe. This show is Macross Zero. Though robotech is the US version of Macross but don't mess with the original. Know what I mean?

I would have love to see how Blaze with his F-14 or Mobius One with his F-22A Raptor (From Ace Combat) flare against the SV-51. But Shin indeed taking on an SV-51 with an F-14 is something I love watching when it comes to unusual vs reality.

In my point of view Sukhoi = Yamato a.k.a YF 19 since sukhoi is known for its Test plane the Berkut or Golden Eagle it resembles. If you like russian planes like me I think The VF 25 that they use is more look alike of the Su 37 Terminator ( which is made by Sukhoi also) in Frontier.

It's more like the F-14, than the Su-37. Only the nose is a '37 thing. Everything else is parts of previous Valkyries. Which were taken, in large part, from F-14s. But, Messiah beats Valkyrie, and Valkyrie beats F-14. (I'm only listing good guy stiff, 'cuz I can't spell Quaedellun Rea... Was that right?(Also, I can't keep track of non-Valkyrie fighters...))

Well, yeah, but the VF-25 has so many advantages over the others. Besides, it looks coolest! And, I never said it looked like one, just that it is like one. It goes beyond Variable Geometry. The fuselage itself is an F-14 Pancake. It has the vanes on the bottom for added high-speed stability. The intakes are similar. (F-14 Intakes are very efiicient, making it a good design to carry on to the VF series) The only Sukhoi similarity is the nose design.

I just find it curious that the VF-0 lost out so badly throughout Macross Zero to the SV-51, only for it to emerge as the mainstay of the winning faction. I wonder if its the quality of the pilots? Is it because Nora and D.D. are much superior pilots to Roy and Shin?

SV-51 was flown by the anti-UN forces. So obviously, even if the VF-0 sucked hard, the UN wouldnt buy up SV-51 from the enemy.

Nope, the first variable fighter deployed by the UNSpacy (unification wars) was the VF-0 Phoenix, that's the official name. Check the recently updated Macross Compendium for confirmation of this info...
