"How do we heal shame". She has been great on the understanding, but healing the damaged emotional brain isn't driven by critical thinking, it's driven by emoting....exposing shame....being seen and accepted in spite of shame....feeling it more. Moving past it day to day. Feeling in crisis. Evolving. The critical thinking and choices come afterwards.
@selbam0 Indeed and act. This is so simple of a truth people tend to overlook it. It's goes back to the biblical standpoint "as a man thinketh so is he" ( many bible thumpers may try to dispute this saying that it is taken out of context but if they really read and understood the whole passage they wouldn't IMHO) anyway Thanks for your simplistic or rather concise posting....
Never heard shame laided out so well...Love how she says"Shame can not hold on when we name it" thats deep and wide...and true bringing light to a hidden emotion can heal...Dr Brene powerful message you are bringing too the world...we all need this message...and our teenagers :)
If we all could work to heal our inner sense of shame there would no longer be a need to project shame and guilt on others. All scapegoating comes from this shame. And some people seems to be doomed to bear the cross from of shame so the rest of the world can fell "good" about themselves.
I'm a young male and I'm sorry but it sometimes bothers me to hear “ALL MEN THINK ABOUT IS SEX”. I mean come on yeah of course guys are going to think about sex more than women do, It's how we're designed, but we're put to shame for it. It's not ALL we think about, We have feelings and emotions too. Males really shouldn't have to feel shamed or uncomfortable about their sexuality because of all the screwed up men out there. If you know what I mean. : ( Women are such beautiful creatures. : )
