I've read that there's hardly a single family in Iran that did not have a cousin, brother, uncle, father who did not have interaction with Savak during the Shah's reign ('53 to '79). Thank Kermit Roosevelt and the CIA for overthrowing the democratically-elected Prime Minister of Iran Mohammad Mossadeg in 1953.
