Julia Roberts was good when she played funny prostitutes (Pretty Woman) or prostitute lookalikes (Erin Brokovich) - but her career just snowballled from then on and her smile gummed.

Hugh Grant was sweet in Love Actually, but then his bitterness about being so deadpan and having so little acting skill just overcame him and he became a bitter, lined and cynical man who is subtly rude to talk show hosts and takes whiskey in his coffee.
