  • Hey how do you like Texas?.. I'm moving to Fortworth soon and I'm afraid it's going to be a harsh place - I'm from Portland, Oregon. Sorry I just hate to ask this, because it's kindof a terrible question, but well how comfortable do you feel with the general public?.. Sorry yeah that is a bad way of asking that but do you get what I mean??.. You seem really nice and like you uhm well have friends who are "like you" and know people.. Gaahh ok well I hope you are familiar with Porland.. Thankyou!!

  • at what age do hedgehogs reach his full size?

  • sorry to ask but do you have blood on your chin?

  • why will you do that to your self

  • @loveangel616, despite your complete lack of grammar, punctuation, or proper sentence structure I think I understand the question. Is it even a question? Anyway, I assume you are asking "Why would you do that to yourself?" With that I must ask, what does it matter to you? I like who I am, and how I look. I have chosen these things for myself, they make me happy, do not effect others, and many people actually quite like them. I have never had trouble finding a job and see no issues here.

  • @loveangel616 Why would you post an "I am a small minded illiterate" sign on the internet?

@madmaxmandic I dread the day I have to lose one of my hedgies. Good for you for doing the humane thing.

  • @madmaxmandic well said.

  • @madmaxmandic I love your style and your hedgehog. No homo.

  • How long did you have max before you lost him? I recently just lost my little hedgehog of 5 years and was just wondering.

  • @mooseface97 I don't remember for certain but I believe Max was 5 years going on 6 when he passed.

  • Soooo, when are we getting married? <3

  • do these lil guys hurt?

  • Max was lucky to have you

  • Ohh no, I really enjoyed watching Max in your videos, it blew me away when i read just now that he passed away, I'm sorry, you seemed to really like him, and I'm sure he loved you.

  • Do you have a hedgehog tattoo?

  • I was about to write "marry me" but I see others have done it already.. So I say only that having such a guy - a caring character, a man who isn't afraid to have a heart -, would be a blessing for any woman. I'm sorry for your loss, but I think about the fact that as long as Max lived, he carried a really happy life, thanks to you. Bless you.

  • the 512 is where it's attttt

  • What colour was Max?

  • Rest in peace, Max. :c

  • im never watching the spliting of the toung video GROSS

  • You planning on purchasing another hedgehog, considering Max died?

  • @ILoveMushrooms777 At the moment I have no plans to get another hedgehog. My hands are full with my puppy dog Domino. Socializing and raising another hedgehog would be difficult for me right now. And after have 2 pass away on me, I need a break from that heartache.

  • @madmaxmandic How long could hedgehog's live for. I'm guessing as long as guniea pigs?

  • Danngggg im in jersey I want onee!!!!

  • @rustytyner, I had probably been up for about 8 hours at this point, if by "up" you mean, awake. The only drugs I take are mild pain relievers like Tylenol and Advil, and I avoid their use as much as I can. Or prescribed medications. Thanks for being an ass, come again. Actually don't.

  • @rustytyner way to go judging a person pointlessly by their looks. what you did is pretty much as bad as racism. congratulations, because you are part of what is currently wrong with the world :D

  • god you're hot.

  • You live in Austin, owned a hedgehog, and you're modified? Yea, I love you.

  • What do you mean "they aren't cuddly"? that little guy seems to want to climb all over you haha I've actually heard that although they can be hard to literally cuddle they are somewhat social and enjoy attention and being held

  • @XXXbrutalbrennaxX666 They take a LOT of socializing. When you first get them, most of them will be scared and will not really want to have anything to do with you. xD But after many many nights of holding, bonding, and socializing, they warm up to you. :) Of course some (like my little guy) are grumpy their entire life. I still love my Yoshi though. :)

  • @kelsinator14986 thanks for the reply, and I had a guinea pig like that once XD loved him though :3

  • I'm so sorry to hear about Max. :(

I got my little Lars the same way you said you got your first hedgehog, and I love him so much!

  • I love you..♥

  • :(( was so sad when I read he is not alive anymore

  • omg, this video made me so happy, then the news made me so sad, I'm really sorry for your loss.

  • F@&K!!!!- I LIVE IN PA!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I got my Nathan from a rescue :D

  • I'm sorry that Max passed =(

  • Camera suggestion: Canon Rebel t2i- incredible video and still shots!

  • I finally got my hedgehog MURPHY yesterday, after 3 months of collecting informations. he's adorable. but very shy and afraid. I hope he feels comfortable with me soon :) thanks to you for your videos :)

  • Where can i get hedgehogs in my area it is legal here in rhode island. and i do have permission from my parents to have one. how do i get one :].

  • i'm in texas too! haha i was just about to google if it's legal in texas

  • AWWW. He's adorable. ♥ And you are ~extremely~ cool. I love all your tattoos and body mods

  • is it alright to have a hedgehog in Ontario, Canada? i've seen them in pet stores but i was just wondering... trying to find a breeder in my area.. thanks!!

  • I am sorry to see that Max passed. You are so very good with them and they can be lovely creatures! Welcome to Texas :)

  • Nothing to do with hedgehogs, but you did mention in. Getting your tongue split. Just out of curiosity (and may seem a stupid question), can you get the split tongue reversed? Do you have to keep "topping it up" as they say?

  • @DiggerDoesWhat I know of TWO split tongue reversals ever. One was done within an hour of splitting the tongue. The second was done after years of having it split. And funny enough that second one was just resplit this past week. I forget the motivations for closing it up, I think military service(no split tongues in the military). DO NOT go into getting a split tongue thinking "Oh I can get it reversed later". In fact don't go into ANY body modification thinking that.

  • @DiggerDoesWhat And I'm getting you mean, "topping it up" as far as fighting regrowth. Mine has been cut more times than I can to mention. Both professionally and by myself. Then I know some folks who have had theirs cut one time and that is all.

  • WHEN HEDGEHOGS LOSE SOME QUILLS DO THEY GROW BACK

  • @2002liv african pygmy hedgehogs have from 5000 to 7000 quills, they lose old quills all the time and new ones are taking there place. :)

  • @danivibritannia oh thanks i was so worrid

  • nooooooooooooooooooooooo i live in PA

  • I just got a hedgie for my birthday this past weekend. Can't wait until he lets me handle him as much as Max was in this video without huffing.

  • Really sorry to hear about Max passing away :(

  • Hey man, I was thinking about buying a hedgehog, but I don't want to buy one and spend time cooking it if they're no good to eat. I appreciate any input. Thank you!

  • @PhillyDarko, The cost of the meal would make it silly in my opinion. Hedeghogs range $100-150 as I've seen around. Figure you'd get about a game hen worth of usable meat off of it. You'd be far better off spending the same on a steak dinner. Heck you could take a girl out for a nice date and try to have a life at the same time!

  • @madmaxmandic can i just run into the woods and grab one i see? we got pretty mutch a whole hedgehog family living in our neck of the woodsboo yah! x)

  • i didnt know Hitler like pets !

  • @ibrahemz How does that even make sense? He doesn't look at all like Hitler. Nothing about him does. Do you somehow associate tattoos or body modification with Hitler? You have something seriously wrong with you...

  • @Fiends4 chill im just sayingg ... omg noob

  • @ibrahemz Did you just call me a "noob" because I called you an idiot? Telling me to "chill" because you were just saying? Just saying something offensive and rude. Go kill yourself child.

  • @Fiends4 omg man ... whats ur problem ?

  • @Fiends4 and yes he looks like hitler some how !

  • I use a Canon 550D for both photography and videoing, and I absolutely love it. Not too sure if you've already updated your camera, but I would definitely recommend it. :)

  • Love your videos dude! gotta say as far as cameras go (dont know if its to late)

I use a SONY Handycam HDR - CX350 AWESOME video, and AWESOME Sound quality highly recommend it, ALSO do you have a hedgehog tattoo on your right inner arm?

  • I'm so sorry to hear about Max. He was a very handsome young fellow. And he was very well behaved. It's nice to see another great hedgehog owner out there, though. I'm not sure if you have another little one yet, but I hope you do get another, and keep on educating people about them. :)

  • awhh man :( sorry for loss.

  • aw, im so sorry to hear about max passing away, i recently just got a hedgie myself, im new at taking care of her, but i could not just let her sit in that little five gallon tank at the pet store. i did a lot of research before picking her up, but i do have to say your tecnique with the tooth brush is much easier than everything else i've been told. i have a question actually about dry skin... Thistle gets it bad and i was wondering what i should do to make it less painful for her...

  • @TheSnakThatSmilesBak, how often are you bathing Thistle? What shampoo or soap are you using? Personally I used a no-tears puppy shampoo. And only bathed Max once or twice a month overall. Overwashing and harsh soaps are the primary causes of dry skin. Mites could be a possible concern as well. Are her ears getting ragged around the edges? You may want to consult a vet if so about treatment. Oatmeal based washes will help if it is just a dry skin issue.

  • @madmaxmandic i use puppy shampoo too, its what my friend recommended, i have only had her for two weeks, and i've bathed her once when she came home. her ears do look pretty dry, but the pet store said she was about to start quilling and her skin will get dry. if i brought her home with mites i'm going to be a little upset :/

  • *damn autocorrecting iPad. I second ShazzyBunny's toothbrush question.

  • Sorry for your loss. I second the aqueduct

  • Great video. I've been doing research for over a year about getting a hedgehog, but sadly it's illegal to own one in PA. I'm glad you were honest, and weren't all, "OMG, HEDGEHOGS ARE JUST SO ADORABLE, AND AWESOME, AND EVERYONE SHOULD GET ONE!" It takes WORK. But so does any animal, really. Also, I'm sorry for your lose. :(

  • your pretty tight and you hedgehog is cute! BTW i am the only one to dislike your video, hahaha!

  • So sorry for your loss, man. :-(

  • You look a bit like Jim Carrey :)

  • Why does a hedgehog need a bath?

  • I randomly stumbled upon your channel from Wimp and while the cute factor of your hedgehog was the initial draw, I was very interested in your scarification piece. I have always been tossed around the idea of mapping out a piece to be done, but had never actually seen it on a person or finalized a design. So this video inadvertently gave me insight on the appearance of one (outside of a still picture) and I thank you for that. You seem like a likable fellow, and I appreciate your videos. : )

  • oh hi boy taking care of animals. totally adorabz.

  • That is utterly stupid that Pennsylvania takes them away and destroys them. How hard would it to be to get a animal rescue in a neighbouring state (that doesn't prohibit the owning of hedgehogs) to take in those little fellows and find them homes

It would still suck to have the gov't take away your adorable ball o' spikes, but, all things being equal, pretty much any pet owner would rather their pet go to a new home than be put down.

  • marry me!

  • So sorry for your loss, Max seems like such a sweetheart. He's the exact same color as my Schrodinger, who is an angry ball of spite - and love! Thank you for posting this video, you really cover a lot of important information for people who are considering hedgies as pets.

  • So sorry about Max! You could so see he knew he was loved and adored.

  • i look up scarification and now im cringing from the sight

  • I have the same exact couch as you and it's freaking me out.

  • Responsible pet ownership and educator for the win! Max was so lucky to have you, and I am heartbroken over your loss. (I rescue rabbits myself) But the big question that remains unanswered.... Whose toothbrush did you use???? You had quite the selection as seen in your video... perhaps a roommate with whom you hold a grudge? Or just different degrees of strength in the bristles (the brush, not the hedgie) :)

  • Ha ha you addressed the salt in the cabinet. Funny how we all start lurking around people's stuff in videos. Sorry about Max, you are a great dad. And thank you for addressing pet stores, I always promote any and all rescue organizations.

If you are looking for it, there is probably one waiting to be rescued,...any breed or critter!!

  • Awe, I'm sorry about Max. :( By the way I am very impressed with how open you seem to be with other people's opinions and questions. I know a lot of people who would probably be annoyed by it.

  • I'm sorry for your loss with Max :( It's good to see loving and caring pet owners

  • It seems like it was getting pissed. Do hedgehogs bite?

  • @slumbercrash, he was pretty calm really. He wanted to go explore and play around a bit but I was just letting him walk hand to hand.

Hedgies can bite. More often than not they are just trying to determine if you are edible(not kidding). They will lick you a few times, then give you a nip to see if they can chew on you. Just one of the silly things they do. Max was never much of a biter. I think he bit 2 or 3 people once each. Ruby the one I had before, she "tested for tastiness" often.

  • what the hell is on your chin?

  • am sorry about max

  • You look just like a young John Cleese.

  • Comment removed

  • Why would you get scarification when you could just get a regular tattoo? I'm just curious. And sorry to hear about Max.

  • Aw Im so sorry to hear about Max

  • I can't decide who in this video I want to smooch more. <3

  • I am sorry to hear that you lost Max. I know what it is like to lose a loved one especially a pet. I also wanted to tell you it is so great that you suggest rescuing before breeders and over pet stores. I have two ferrets (a little different from hedgehogs) and my newest ferret I received because his previous owner did not know how much was involved with taking care of one. I wish you the best. Good luck with your babies!

  • I'm really sorry about the passing of your little fellow. So sad.

  • Wow! I live in harker heights Texas just north of you!

  • Could you specify why hedgehogs aren't cuddly?

  • @NeverSnack The quills on their backs are pointy and CAN break skin. They aren't so sharp that they do this on a regular basis, but they can. From time to time my hedgies would want to cuddle, but it was rare. I had once where Max climbed into my bed(a good 2 feet straight up via the sheets) and curled up next to me in the night. It was a rude surprise when I rolled onto him, but it was very cute of him.

  • @madmaxmandic did he poke you when you rolled on him

  • I'm not a fan of body modification but I support the inherent right of people to do what they desire with their bodies. More importantly I wanted to say that I appreciate your videos for the enlightening commentary and love & care of animals.

    Peace & best wishes.

  • Do you know if they're legal in Canada ? :o

  • aw, RIP max. he obviously had a very nice life thanks to you. you're a fantastic pet owner.

  • @gardengroveee What is he dead :(

  • @gardengroveee he dead ?

  • You seem like a really awesome dude.

  • It's really lovely to see someone so well informed and enthusiastic! Max is such a sweetie! Love the tattoos! Thanks for the cool vid :D

  • MAX AND RUBY! <3 Awesome reference is awesome.

  • austin, texas?

  • @gogiryeah Yep, Austin TX. I guess I didn't really specify, whoops.

  • Cool videos. You seem like such a nice guy, you're clearly a great hedgehog owner and Max is just adorable! <3

  • I am so very sorry about Max, seems to me like you were the best human a wee beast could ask for.

  • wow. You're a pretty rad dude aren't you. Respect. And I can't wait to see more videos just filled with MAX MAX AND MORE MAX <3 SEND HIM MY LOVE.

  • I want to be your friend. Not marry you or date you, but just be your friend.

  • What prompted you to get a hedgehog in the first place? As in why Ruby & Max as opposed to a dog or cat?

  • I really wish I didn't live in pennsylvania. I'm planning on moving to Maryland when I can so I shall have a hedgehog! C:

  • lets get married and become hedgehog breeders together <3

  • Question; Can we get married? Teehee.

  • nice vid

  • Awesome body modification! Congratulations on the nice attitude, you sound like a very sweet person! And Max is a cutie. Peace

  • yeah, i live in PA.. i wish i could have one :( they're so cute!

  • Scarification? +10 respect, dude, I bet that hurt like a you-know-what. Did you just get it on your chin or did you do any other parts of your body?

And, completely unrelated to hedgehogs, but how in the world do you gauge your conch? And why? I have honestly never seen/heard of that before. And I thought you couldn't gauge parts of your ear with a high concentration of cartilage, because it would tear.

  • @zimmerwoman62, I have another scar piece around my waistline that didn't heal "well". I will be recutting that one in the near future.

And my conches are punched, not stretched. I'm no expert so I cannot comment on stretching cartilage, I know alot of friends that have done it and just commented on it being very painful. Mine were sort of cut out to 00ga.

  • max is the cutest! Im thinking about getting one did you get both (ruby and max) when they were babies or adults??

  • I miss my hedgehoig so much. Dexter was an albino. He was super playful and sweet! RIP Your hedgehog is adorable!

  • i cant hold ramona(my hedgie) like that more than 5 minutes..or shes biting..hahahaha..

  • Did you move to Austin because of the hedgehog rules

  • How often does Max eat? and do you do anything in particular when it gets cold?

  • @Saritasmiles1 Max is pretty good about self-regulating his diet. He is a small hedgehog versus the average size I've seen though. I top off his bowl of food daily since he seems to prefer "fresh" food oddly enough. My old hedgie Ruby required me to control her diet. I'd feed her 2 days in a row and skip the third usually.

As for cold weather, I used a cage warmer when we lived up North. One of those stick on reptile ones since Max's old cage was an aquarium. No need here in Texas.

  • That little freaky fact about PA Law made me instantly think: What are the F=ers that afraid of Hedgehogs enough to kill them!?!?!?!?! Bastards *Shaking fists at sky*. Thanks for the info.

  • Max is adorable! If I didn't already have five animals, I might look into getting a hedgehog... after lots of research of course. You seem like a great hedgehog daddy and I can tell Max really loves you! Cheers :)

  • I'm getting my first hedgie on Sunday at a exotic pet expo. I'm waaaay excited and will be posting videos of him/her regularly. Any tips, tricks, or suggestions? I've been wanting a hedgehog for years and finally got the courage. I have 9/16th gauges and my own tats as well! You're awesome and I'm rambling but hey who can blame me I'm excited!

  • hey man tatts and gauges are sick! i want 00 gauges on my lobes and two tattoo sleeves. did you or have you found it hard to get a job with them? just asking cause its a well talked about think and that would be the make or break for me getting gauges and a lot of tattoos thanks bro! Love your hedgehog!

  • Anyway it sounds unreal to have a hedgehog as a pet

  • wild hedgehogs are so shy and militant... Your one doesn't seem to be such guy ... He's unreally cute... But can he understand what is happening to him?... like a cat or a horse ... or just follows his instincts?

  • @RuslanaVolichenko For the most part they just act on instinct. They learn but not usually commands of any kind. Even responding to their name isn't a guarantee. One thing you can really see is if someone else handles Max, he acts more scared and reserved. With me he comes out and interacts far more. So there is a connection there for sure.

  • Max is very adorable, and you seem to take very good care of him. You both seem to be very close. I was wondering about something though, aside from Max; what type of scar did you say that is? I am just curious and want to learn about it.

  • People like you give me hope for humanity.

You have what most consider to be a very questionable appearance; tattoos, piercings, scars, etc. Yet, watching you interact with a creature as delicate as a hedgehog is amazing. It's evident you have such a soft spot for him and you care for him deeply; most people wouldn't be able to tell that from your appearance. And just listening to you, you're obviously very mature and intelligent. You're an inspiration, to say the least. :]

  • Apparently they have really bad fleas. Is this true?

  • @28thLife Mine have never had a case of fleas. I am certain they could get them if you had other animals around to introduce fleas. What they get mostly is mites. Mites really like to be around a hedgies ears and you may notice tattered ears from infection/scratching. That is a pretty good indicator. Vets can prescribe medicines and give advice on stopping mites. Max has ahd mites once and that was cleared up thanks to our vet.

  • @madmaxmandic Thank you for replying back, Max! :) I was going to get one. And you really enlightened me on a few things (in the video) I didn't know about, or didn't know where to look or what to look for. So your video has been a great help. Thank you once again :)

  • 1. thank you for making a followup video. ha.

    2. can i add you on facebook if im not a stalker?

    3. what made you name him max?

  • Max is adorable :3 What kind is he? Chocolate, cinnacot,...?

  • @monkiesxstolmecookie I had never bothered to figure out his color before now. According to the Hedgehog Central colour guide, he is Brown. haha Boring color name, but he fits their description of "Brown" very well.

  • Max is very cute! I thought this video was really great with giving out the basic need to know information about owning a hedgehog. About how old is he now?

  • @QRyoko Max is somewhere between 4-5 years old now. I've had him since he was about 3-4 months.

  • Max is so cute!
