Many people don't know this, but the research is out there & supported by the AAP and the WHO. :o)

People at one time that that interracial marriage was "creepy" and "disturbing." So glad that society has evolved! And the children really seem bright and happy to me. If they were drooling in the corner unable to communicate, then I'd likely be concerned. But they seem happy, articulate, and well-adjusted.

And the fact you would compare social stigma of interracial marriage to breastfeeding an 8 year old child is laughable. There are a lot of adults with serious issues who "appear" happy and well-adjusted.

In a room of 1000 parents, find me five that would say breastfeeding an 8 year old child is appropriate, and I'll retract MY statement. Just curious - what if the child decided he wasn't ready to wean himself by say...the age 16? Still wanted to breastfeed, even then. Would that be ok? With the logic stated by your citations, it would be - and I find that insane.

Tell me, do you use public opinion to base all your parenting decisions? To address your fears that some child will nurse until 16, it simply doesn't happen. Just as children developmentally eventually toilet train. Most children self-wean by 4, but developmentally some take longer. Do the research before sounding ignorant.

@MyLilPookieBear At one time, the AAP also stated smoking up to four cigarettes a day was acceptable, and that it was recommended babies sleep on their stomachs. Even the AAP is vague about the extent of their findings. In fact, their statements is thru toddlerhood but doesn't address an 8 YEAR OLD 3rd GRADER. And I would absolutely challenge that if all 60k pediatricians were polled, the vast majority would agree that an 8 year old is far too old to still be breastfeeding.
