  • Go Oppy! I hope you'll get to embark on lots of other exciting adventures out there on Mars. *waves at the sky*

  • Kinda desert

  • Needs trees

  • aliens? :o lol

  • From 2:19 (day 2469) to 2:22 (day 2548) is so cool when it passed that crater!

  • Where is Bigfoot?

  • i see so many vacation homes 0.0

  • Needs a Starbucks...

  • R2 on Tattoine, before the Jawas get him.

  • Oh i saw an ancient alien pyramid...Now there is an ancient alien subway system...What is that? An ancient alien wallmart?

  • They are not going back for this...I am sure they are hideing something...

  • @mrthomas108 You're right; Elvis must be on Mars.

  • is there no way these could have been in colour?

  • How is it we have the technology to go to mars and take/send pictures, yet we still get black and white PHOTOS.

  • @hifatpeople We also get lots of color pics from those same rovers. Color images have more data in them than do black & whites, which means they take up more space on the rover's buffer memory (which limits the number that can be taken each day), and they take more time to transmit to Earth (which eats into how many pics can be sent each day). So, whether a pic is color or not is planned ahead of time according to how important it is to have color information.

  • @hifatpeople light (=information) still travels at the same speed

  • what's the white point over the horizon in day 1823 ? (sorry my english and my ignorance)

  • couldnt u film with a better camera? cheapskates

  • would have liked to have seen closer to the mountains

  • its like they didnt have money to put better camera

  • Excellent,

    Thanks for posting!

  • Reminds me of the beach.

  • watch out for the FACE

  • look's like area 51 black-white pictures :D

  • hey... no way... theres sand on mars... and rocks... woot

  • @yourmom1993 mars has an atmosphere. same as earth

  • if there is no wind in space how are the ripple effects created?

  • Comment removed

  • I would love to get someone drunk and then put them on Mars. Then see their expression when they wake up. (Saying if we could breath and get the resources etc. etc..)

  • The ultimate stop-motion video.....though very expensive to make!!

  • sahara dessert

  • 2:20 the end of Martian life.

  • Comment removed

  • TF? Stop at 2:20

    Is that water?

  • @DarkAvatar99 Do you mean deep in the crater? That's a wavy pattern which forms in the soil at the bottom from the way that air currents flow over the crater. A number of Martian craters have this.

  • wow, thx

  • california?

  • That was cool.

  • To me the message of the images is, "This is land! People could live there!" OK, so maybe it's a little bit of a fixer-upper ...

  • i was expecting to see bin laden

  • wall - E ?

  • It's obvious Mars has experienced some serious global warming!

  • No colored images? C'mon. If we spend that much money, there should be at least some kind of camera that can capture color video.

  • @TrickyEmu there are colored images on the roover. hence the colored images of mars we see on the discovery channel. i suppose they simply choose to use black and white pictures for this.

  • Where are the trees?

  • So we spent a fortune to take pictures of dirt :(

  • I'm surprised we didn't see a McDonalds in this 13-mile journey. Not yet I guess.

  • WALLY!!!! =(

  • Most likely the awesomest stop motion video I've seen :)

  • future of our earth...

  • @thecr45h3r the future of earth will probably look more like Venus.

  • are the white spots ice or saltdeposites...

  • best gazillion bucks we ever spent

  • @PokerVT1 LOL

  • its fake, thats a tv studio

  • is that all the way in the back mountains???

  • Wall-E!!!!!!!

  • @Str4lyphe Totally said that in his voice lol

  • Sooooo... it's sandy.

  • Why is LMFAO in the suggestions bar at the right? What do they've got to do with this? LMFAO!!! :D

  • CONSPIRACY!

That is WALL-E, and was shot in a studio!

  • So show the friggin' aliens already!

  • meh... Looks no different than the desert.

  • question: wouldn't you be able to just mount a regular video camera on the rover and capture video? im pretty sure video cameras would work because even if the temperature is not good for it, you can always make adjustments and protect it.

  • @cezar96 It's so far away the date is sent back so slowely and must be sent several times for it to reach earth, one picture probably takes a couple days worth of power and time to upload, video would probably take years for a couple minutes

  • @cezar96 on mars, you can't always make adjustments. there's dust storms, immense winds and the highest temperature you'll encounter is probably 30 degrees F. a video camera will not be able to handle that. nasa could spend millions designing one, but why even bother if your dust storms are going to erode at the lense, and get into the circuits.

  • @12345Carlos I think I recall having read that around the equator, during the summer, it can actually get as warm as high 60's, low 70's Fahrenheit. It's going to be bitterly cold most of the time, though and when it is that warm, you're going to be getting bombarded with solar radiation. You're right about the camera, though. They need it to keep functioning for as long as possible and the best bet there is to keep it simple.

  • @AkpostedUp thank you for clearing that up for me.

  • it looks like the beach

  • Am I the only one seeing an Enderman at 1:11 ?

  • so boring yet so cool

  • Comment removed

  • They should have strapped a digital camera to the Rover. Instead they just stuck an old one on it that they had lying around from the 50's.

  • I spent 100% of this video looking for aliens

  • Forever alone...

  • I see that they blocked out the images of the transformers... >.<

  • Forever alone V.V

  • You go all the way to mars and take black and white photos? smh

  • yeah.. wasn't the other one destroyed at one point or something?

  • FAKE

  • Once this rover finds OIL in Mars you bet oil companies will start funding nasa to explore and invade Mars.

  • My favourite part is the desert on 0:48 and the desert on 0:51

  • Seems like a nice place.

  • hmmm...looks like my backyard.

  • To think, these things will someday be in a Mars museum.

  • Wallie?D:

  • Why no color??? aren't these rovers hella expensive and they cannot put a colored camera on it.

  • @sonep511 they have one, but they don't often use it because it drains more power and takes up more memory.

  • @BelowAverage355 good point, but how wonderful it would be to see in wonderful color!!

  • @sonep511 I think there are some, you can probably find some on google.

  • This was very good, great even.

  • Somehow I was expecting to see camels

  • occupy NAZI I mean NASA.

  • @WETDREAMCARCLUB Explain what that unecessary comment has to do with this video? Please explain. Your ignorance irritates me.

  • @lolpranksta I thought you knew Nasa was started by Nazi scientist Brought here by our Government after WWII to work on the Rocket Hitler was Making. The Nazi ideoligy was adopted by our USA.

  • @WETDREAMCARCLUB Never mind your ignorance, that actually made things clearer. Thanks.

  • billions and billions and they cant put a color camera on it -_-

  • Truly awesome. It's amazing that we could do something like that.

  • @jamesmargolis Maybe the government can fund some money to detect signs of intelligence at NASA.....lol

They are pretty much brain dead there.

  • I was expecting majestic landscapes and towering mountains and frightening ravines... far more grand than what we have on earth... then here I am getting dissapointed with similar images from the sahara... oh mars...

  • @gamapg just like earth mars had water, seas on it and the robot must of landed somewhere where there is a flat surface i dont thing the machine can yet take on moutains like here on earth i do think there are mountains though.

  • looks like ET did not reach home.

  • I think i see a UFO at 0:57

    wait its just an alien

    false alarm

  • wtf is this..poor robot

  • if they are still pictures .. then y that annoying sound..?

  • @Insubordinate90 I see. Then I stand corrected. English is very flexible language, I guess I was bending it a little too much haha. Thank you for the correction.

  • can we get this in color?

  • @Insubordinate90 one of the meanings in The Free Dictionary is - To grasp mentally; understand! Maybe "comprehend" is more appropriate, although "apprehend" is not used wrongly here.

  • It looks so much like Earth

I can't wait to go there.

  • Wall.E!!!!

  • Say cheeEEEeeese, oh wait, that's the moon

  • 309 Postcards

  • 309 Poatcards

  • The surface of Mars reminds me a lot of our ocean floor 0.o

  • This is just truly remarkable, 40 years ago people could only dream of what it would be on the surface of Mars. and I'm here sitting in my boxers eating cereals watching actual images from a planet hundreds of millions of miles away. Thank you to all the people that worked on this project! I can't wait to see the images from the Mars Science Laboratory.

  • @Kaip911 perfect, comment

  • @Kaip911 Yes I agree, but we need a colony on Mars already instead of all the money we put into wars with other nations here on Earth.

  • awww, poor rover, he is so lonely.

  • @GhostSigma Or is he?!

  • wtf am i looking at? some 10 year old could have shot this in black and white on some random beach for all i know

  • WALL-E!

  • Fake, the Fremen wouldn't let a thinking machine roam around taking pictures...

  • I think I saw Kuato standing over by a crater.

  • awesome place for dirt racing

  • Urrrg I hate whe people show you their holiday photos. They always think their holiday was better.

  • It would be a lot more sensible, though obviously not yet possible, to hurl meteorites that contain ice into the martian atmosphere. Although I really don't think the reason for global warming is all that water we keep exporting into outer space you hammy bastard.

  • is it plausible to transport earth's sea water to mars through a rocket so it can sustain life? since our sea level is rising why not right... IM ASKING IF IT'S PLAUSIBLE SO FORGET ABOUT THE COST.

  • @FRE5HIT No it's not plausible, and it's a terrible idea to begin with. Removing even a small percentage of the earth's water would probably have dire consequences for the planet in the long run. It's ideas like that that'll kill this planet...

  • @FRE5HIT Regardless of the consequences for Earth, Mars has an incredibly thin atmosphere. The air pressure is so low on Mars that even though the temperatures are below freezing, any water that you brought there would just turn into vapor. So, no, you can't just bring water there.

  • @Insubordinate90 whats wrong with that word?

  • fake and gay

Joking aside, I found this interesting, but I wish more was happening on Mars.

  • What if it fell into a deep hole and can't get out? lol.

  • I dont think going to mars is enough. I think we should find away to revive the planet to be livable on. The population this planet is sky rocketing we need a alternative planet.

  • either way we live to see another day

  • Black n White WTF? Really? What year are we in? For a moment there looking at the footage I thought it was 1967.

Colour digital cameras have been available to the public since the very early 80s, and the governments had their hands on them even earlier. Why does NASA insist on using their cheap casio calculators to take pictures?

  • @nfkxxx Alright then, I want you to send something to Mars and have it bring back HD color pictures of the surface. Then mail them to me.

  • @iggyman91 I certainly don't have the means or wealth to do something like that, but NASA do, and have done for a long time. I'm just saying I think it's a bit odd that a colour camera wasn't used for such an important part of exploration history. It's a shame we have to view mars it through the eyes of "before colour"

  • Sorry, but even kids have hi res colour cameras everywhere these days. If NASA keeps releasing mostly B/W photos in this day and age then I truly believe they have something to hide....

  • I could have sworn I saw Bill Gates in one of the images with his pants down, squatting behind a boulder!

  • @eleminatus ... u meant comprehend not apprehend... right????

  • why isn't the camera in color?!

  • poor little mars rover, all alone on mars :(

  • Did anyone see Wong Ranch and their Buggalo?

  • @HaveGoblin no, the native martians already wiped them out.

  • it'd be cool if decepticons appeared in some of those shots

  • welcome to mars! theres nothing here!

  • there is no color on Mars?

  • @rafaelmelhem you idiot -.- ...

  • @rafaelmelhem

    I know what you mean.

All that money spent and no color video?

    Noobs.

  • awesome!

  • this is not the moon kiddo's

  • @URNOTOFGOD thank you.

  • Amusing human posts...someone say aliens? Please check the video right at the end at around 2:51, pic 2676 looks like something in the top right area on the ground...get to tha choppa! Also pic 2680 tell me that is not a group of sandpeople standing around a tunnel entrance next to a hovercraft...last item for today's confusion expo is very next pic, number 2681 far left looks like some discarded gear, maybe a junked satellite? Also note what appears to be a dust trail or road in the background.

  • @drazen54 There's nothing there but rocks, stop being a conspiracy nut job.

  • @AgrivatedKillah its a joke, get a life

  • how do we even know that this all real!!!??

  • land without a government controlling it....no borders around it.....a true free land

  • this is tight!

  • just a quick thought/question: why don't they send a camera up there with colour?

  • sightseeing

    Location Location Location

    New Las Vagas on mars

    Awesome clip

  • GREAT PICS,WHERE IS THE REST ,I DON'T MIND SPENDING HOURS SEEING THE WHOLE THING,BY THE WAY,LET SUPPOSE SOME ALIENS ( SUPPOSE I SAID SOME ALIENS SENT A ROBOT TO A STUPID DESERT ON EARTH,DOES IT MEAN THAT HUMANS DOES NOT EXIST?) PLEASE MY ADVICE IS ,SINCE IT COSTING BILLIONS AND BILLIONS OF DOLLARS ,MAKE THIS ROBOT LANDS WHERE THERE IS EXCITEMENTS,LIKE NEXT TO A BAR IN MARS,OOPS ,SORRY ,NEXT TO THE PYRAMID,EVERYBODY SAW THE FACE ON MARS,OR NEXT TO A STUPID MARTIAN CITY,AND TELL NOBODY OUT THERE

  • At 02:19, the hole in the ground is a crater, named the Endavour Crater. No one landed there. It is caused by volcanic eruption. I hope they will be testing to see if there is a crust, a mantle, an outer core and an inner core similar to that of Earth. I would be interested in the soil composition and what minealization Mars has. Ah...What I would give to have some of those rocks!

  • Ahoy Mateys! Tis buried treasure ye be after? Aye, mark me words then and look well. X marks the spot!

  • what was all the white stuff in the pictures? exposed rocks? Ice? very cool pics from a long way away!!
