Looks more like their protecting the police from the protesters.

In the US can we depend on the military to protect the people from the anti-Constitutional repressions planned by Washington DC under the "continuity of government" plans which have created a militarized police force and secret police structure manned by deliberately dumbed down (hired based on low IQ terts) functionaries? Despite what US Vice PRes. The following are a few things they have for years peacefully demonstrated for: stopping torture, every vote counting & not thrown away, judges free to rule & not beat, more than 5 people at a time allowed to get together, no bribes esp. from other countries for torture (US-Arar)
I am ignorant to what is going on, the army and police of the same government are facing up to each other, is this right? Please can someone let me in on what is actually taking place here?
Mubarak—30 years as an “elected” president. Massive election fraud. Everyone knows that Mubarak is in power because of election fraud.
Egypt: Largely populated by Muslims and Coptic Christians (about 10% of Egypt’s 83 million people). Traditionally, the Coptics are discriminated against. Some, but not all, of Egypt’s Muslims are members of the Muslim Brotherhood, the largest opposition party to Mubarak.
According to John Engles: The middle class has shrunken.
Also according to John Engles: with most people now impoverished and a few who are rich. Education has also suffered, with a resulting large segment of the population now being mostly uneducated.
Unemployment is rampant.
Inflation is unchecked.
People cannot provide for their families.
The police and the state, under Mubarak, are known to torture dissidents. Many human rights abuses.
Tunisia has a revolt. It appears Egyptians were inspired by Tunisians’ success and are now having their own revolt with tens of thousands taking to the streets demanding the ousting of Mubarak. Mubarak has fired all government representatives to appease the population, but they reject this as a ploy (he has done it before). They want Mubarak out.
The protesters want a real democracy. However, the Muslim Brotherhood, which has not been at the forefront of the protests, may not go along with this or, should they come to power, will do so in name only.
Mubarak has honored a peace treaty between Egypt and Israel, and thus helped to keep the two countries from warring. This has helped to stabilize the Middle East.
Even though many people support the Egyptian revolt, they worry about the stability of the peace between Israel and Egypt when all is said and done. The Israelis are particularly worried.
Coptic Christians will also most likely suffer if the Muslim Brotherhood comes to power when everything shakes out.
The United States, who brokered the peace treaty between the two countries, sends more than a billion dollars a year to Egypt. Many Americans and others resent what they see as support for a tyrant, Mubarak.
Officially, America is currently not taking sides, but calling for non-violence among the protesters. Most of the protesters also want non-violence; however, there have been deadly confrontations with the police.
The police have withdrawn from the streets, but the Army is coming in. But they have not done anything to hurt the protesters, and many wonder if they will abandon the government and take the side of the protesters—their own brethren. The Egyptian Army is built on a draft, so its soldiers are of the people. Asking them to fight a foreign enemy is one thing, asking them to fight their own people is another.
@Aroddo, I think you did not understand what I said. I said "SADLY" , and I pointed that the footage was sensationalist because it says "see what happened next" and nothing happens next. Is that being racist? Of course I'm not. I hope the Egiptian people gets Mubarak out of power. Let's hope the country turns into a democracy and not into a more strict islamic regime. There was other examples of that in the past.
@Synthe Looks to me like they are keeping the protesters and police apart. The police are unable to fire upon the protestors with the army in the way. And the soldiers appeared to by ushering the protesters behind the armored vehicles for their own protection.
You go, reformers! Get your country back- get the democracy that you deserve.
Who knows how it will turn out. The religious leadership may take power, the nationalists may win out, the socialist/marxist group might win (come on, marxists!) or it may be none of these. However, revolution requires that we all take a chance to take control of our lives without knowing absolutely what the future has in store.
We westerners of conscience respect, and take pride in, your struggle. Keep going!!!
They are being true peacekeepers they love their country through and through as Egyptians it seems. Very moving considering the type of power they can wield on either side.
Some demonstrators are carrying signs and chanting things about human rights & justice and THEY are not the violent ones, they are not looting. The talk on the street is that Mubarak opened up some of the jails and let out thugs to terrorize neighborhoods, while calling back the police. They think it might be a strategy to have the people want him back to restore order. It's nice people out during the day and hoodlums at night.
@nbm34 I feel like you miss the point. In Tunisia the Amy backed the protesters and that left the president no choice but to flee The Egyptians are using the same method. They greet the army as friends to remind them that they work to protect the people, but also to win their support. Unlike the police they didn't join the army to take advantage of the people. To attack the army would doom the revolution to fail.
@mmxanonymous I RECIND my previous view on this. I agree your analysis is correct at this stage of the revolution. The Egyptian Army may as yet join with the people. I would be best to treat them in the same manner
interesting developments around the world... when actions occur observe their consequences i am amazed with all the petro rhetoric flying around in middle east nobody has heard of English speaking Shaykh al Yaqoubi from syria and particularly his recent interviews on al Jazeera - a traditional scholar with modern insight courageous enough to speak the truth on international media. watch this man as people power continues.

@benepagan Thank you for all the info. I billion dollars eh! We all know where foreign aid ends up, never gets past the fat cats.

"The following raw footage shows what happend next" ... NOTHING that we could see in the footage.
Sadly, if the Olimpics had Stone Launching as one of the games, the arab world would have all of the world records.

you're a bit of a racist, ain't ya?
Aroddo 1 year ago
@Aroddo, I think you did not understand what I said. I said "SADLY" , and I pointed that the footage was sensationalist because it says "see what happened next" and nothing happens next. Is that being racist? Of course I'm not. I hope the Egiptian people gets Mubarak out of power. Let's hope the country turns into a democracy and not into a more strict islamic regime. There was other examples of that in the past.

Fuck the police.They are pigs.

Sorry seems like the army is obstructing protesters.
Synthe 1 year ago
@Synthe Looks to me like they are keeping the protesters and police apart. The police are unable to fire upon the protestors with the army in the way. And the soldiers appeared to by ushering the protesters behind the armored vehicles for their own protection.

not so much protect protesters as preventing the fight, and thus protecting both sides.

To attack the army would doom the revolution to fail.
mmxanonymous 1 year ago
@mmxanonymous I RECIND my previous view on this. I agree your analysis is correct at this stage of the revolution. The Egyptian Army may as yet join with the people. I would be best to treat them in the same manner
they deal with the people.

@xknowledgeisfreex Precisely, they're doing the right thing.
They may be dressed in different uniforms, but they're all EGYPTIANS!
