They can't, as each and every victim is entitled to royality payments each time the show is screened. A DVD release would have it's profits swallowed up by this. So the money greedy people behind it don't see the point. They had to offer lucritive incentives to the victims as many would have barred themselves from being broadcasted on national TV. A DVD, they would be entitled to a percentage of the overall profits - possibly hundreds of thousands per person.
Good idea. But they still need permission from the people involved! Imagine if you were lampooned on TV like this? People would be taking the piss for years. Maybe these people don't want their 20 year old embarresment dragged back up again. Imagine the people involved when they heard of Beadle's death? "Oh shit!".......because it's inevitable that Beadle's About will be broadcast again "in memory..."
@Young1978 - There's no royalty payment unfortunately!! Every "victim" (or "punter" as we called them) had to sign a release form giving us permission to show the scenes that they were in, and signing away any royalties. Some refused to sign, so we never bothered editing those scenes. Some of the actors may be on royalty contracts, but the punters NEVER were (I worked on the series for six seasons - some of the most enjoyable work I ever did!).
