Why would the Monster still sound like Ygor???? Wouldn't it have made more sense just to let Chaney do the dialogue himself? That may have also helped avoid the calamity of casting Lugosi as the Monster in 'FMTWM,' as part of the rationale was that Lugosi could do the (eventually deleted) dialogue in his Ygor voice. If Chaney had spoken here, Universal would possibly have been more inclined to stick with having Chaney play both Talbot and the Monster in 'FMTWM,' which I would have liked to see.
@jksonny Sorry but I'm not sure if even the great Lon Chaney Jr. could do a decent Ygor impression vocally, just crank up your "suspension of doubt" capacity to a considerable degree and you'll be okay. LOL
@leaderstragg That's just it. Chaney would not have needed to do an Ygor impression. The Monster would still sound like the Monster, only he would be speaking Ygor's words. He might speak more clearly and fluently but it would still be in the Monster's "voice."
@leaderstragg I meant that Chaney should have spoken the dialogue in his version of the Monster's voice. There's no reason he should still sound like Ygor, as if he still has a broken neck.
@jksonny Hmmm, you may have a point there, but I loved Bela Lugosi as the monster's voice! so I'm afraid if it had been up to me I would have kept it, I'll just assume Ygor still sounded like that because he was so used to talking that way he kept it up even when his neck was restored.
@leaderstragg I know what you mean and the dubbing is surprisingly good for the time. But another advantage of having Chaney do the dialogue is that it might have convinced Universal to stick with their original plan of having him play both the Monster and the Wolf Man in FMTWM. Lugosi was a disaster as the Monster and one of the reasons they choose him at the last minute was b/c the part originally had lots of dialogue and he could use his "Ygor voice."
I love the way people just happened to be hanging around holding pitchtorches just incase someone decides that they want to take a mob to kill someone. lolz

@jksonny Wait! Do you mean that Lon Chaney Jr. should have been the monster with Ygor's voice or Bela Lugosi should have done it?
