A great song, and the combination of the strings, drumwork and violin breaks make it distinctively unlike anything else heard at that time; even now it remains singular and unique. A good illustration of why people love the Left Banke; their music, and their ideas and execution, are so different than those of anyone else.
This track is really good. Thumbs up!!! My hobby is to rediscover all those great bands from the 60s that didn´t "broke through". Listen (youtube) for example to:
THE ZETTLERS and their versions of "Skinnie Minnie" and "Beautiful Delilah".
Really f.....g good with a bloody driving beat.
THE GOLLIWOGS and the song "Tell me". Check up the singer....Yes, it´s him!!
I am shamefully only discovering this band now.... I was aware of walk away renee but hadn't really listened to it. Just did for the first time yesterday... what a band!
These guys should have received much more radio air play than they did. What messed them up is when Keyboardist and songwriter Michael Brown ran off with his coin collection and formed an LA version of LB and actually put out a song called Ivy, Ivy. Radio programmers got confused who was real and who was fake and stopped playing them altogether
@radioman66 we need a new jersey music hall of fame a lot of states are doing it we have the left banke knickerbockers 4 seasons knockouts dizzy gilespie rascals bill evans youseff latiff roland hanna...
Apparently, in 2004 Rolling Stone rated "Walk Away Renee" #220 on the list of the top 500 rock songs of all time, but I prefer this one. That three part harmony just hooks me every time.

I wasn't sure about it at first but this tune kinda gets under your skin after a few times, so into my playlist it goes!

This is a great song....Beatlesque....melodic and lyrical harmonies. Could have been from the Beatles' Revolver album.

This song is fantastic. Along with She May Call You Up Tonight, it shows the Left Banke played perfect baroque pop!

I never heard this one good song. I sold the guitar player a Jeep and he was surprised that I knew Pretty Ballerina

Definitely A-side worthy. One of the first songs the Left Banke ever recorded, pre-dating "Walk Away Renee".

Nice to hear this in "stereo". My album is mono. Yeah, this and She May Call You Up Tonight should have been MUCH bigger hits!

This one & She May Call You Up Tonight are tight, in the pocket songs that should have made a bigger name for them.
