Well, I have it labeled as the Calif. Zephyr, but it might actually be the Coast Starlight. I was on the last coach car filming through the rear window at the very last car on the train, which is a private dome car.
@rickpawl that private erailcar is the Silver Lariat most likelly or Sierra Hotel hell there is quite a few private dome cars out there those two are the most noted as well as Northern Sky but this isnt that one the other one is called Obserbatory ..the first two Silver Lariat and Sierra Hotel are former Cal Z cars ,Northern Sky is an old UP Dome car and Observatory was CB&Q for the North Coast Ltd.there is another one too the Warren Hennery a former UP dome car too
Thanks Cowboy. Good information that I didn't previously know. I should have checked for a name on the car at one of the stops. I certainly will next time. : )
@rickpawl i started several years ago through American Rail Excursions they run private railcar trips for both groups and individual charters or just get online and look up private railcar trips also check out the AAPRCO website(American Association of Private Railroad Car Owners) they have trips posted sometimes the trips range in price too on all the operators once you go private railcar its hard to go back to rideing Amtrak you get so spoiled LOL
That's a pretty cool vid. Boy are those some rough tracks. I use to love it when we had the dome car on the Lake Shore. After breakfast I'd sneak up and get a few minutes in it before I had to go back to work.
No. This one, the one I am filming, is the private car. I am in a regular coach car filming through the window at the end of the car. If the private car wasn't on the end of the train, all you would see, all I would be filming is tracks.
did you happen to ever catch the mname of the car probilly Silver Solarium or Silver Lariat being on the Cal Z like that however there are a good few private dome cars out there been on several of them myself however I have also been on the Amtrak looking back at them like this too LOL
This looks like the Plaza Santa Fe car

Considering the smooth, level rails perfectly butted together, thexaggerated movement is quite surprising.
From San Diego to LA, I rode in Amtrak dome car. (Long dome.)
Can't remember if Coastarlight or trains between San Diego and Goleto. (Forget whathye are called.) San Diegans?

OK, just to be clear, I am looking out the back window of the second to the last car and I am filming the very last car which is a private car.

Wait... you got this shot from the private car in front of this one, right?

I guess you are saying that you are filming out of the back window on the door of a Bi-level high vestibule. Is that correct?
