  • he IS Irish. His parents went to England and his Mom gave birth to him there. Lived in Ireland until he was something like 6, moved to England and moved back to Ireland when he was older. Tipperary. And further more, who the hell cares? His music is uh-maze-ing. The Pogues were never the same without him.

  • What is this shit, Shane not irish? He's Irish to the bone.

  • Chesto18 - what's your fuckin point you racist prick? can a person not have Irish heritage if they are born on foreign soil? The diaspora was a result od British imperialism, are we now also to be denied our heritage by the same wankers who starved our ancestors from their homeland?

  • <3 Spider!

  • Born in England, very well educated to .

  • I am going to die one day (like most people). I want streams of whiskey played at my funeral.

    Al xxxx

  • classic

  • Shane has always been a kind of hero to me. I'm sober now for 2.5 years, and it's a bit difficult to hear songs like these, but they're still in my heart.

  • @MrVlodrop And the best of luck to you! Demon booze is a killer to kick and I admire anyone with the bollocks to get through it..

  • regardless, i reckon he's the man. one of the the few authentics. bollocks to misdemeanours and minor faults . . . focus on them & you're missin the point. i know im speakin to the converted, thank God we're here!

  • Hello Yankerman. Probably more Anglo-Irish as he has Irish roots. He is more Irish than Tony Cascerino. Lets call him a European ! We are all happy Europeans living together in the EU..........arf

  • holy shit holy shit holy shit. this is entirely too badass. dropkicks and flogging molly must bow down.

  • its ok ...butI like WDR WAY BETTER

  • Spider is cool as fuck

  • Brilliant. Cheers!!!

  • cheers!

  • See, there's a reason why Shane Mcgowan can drink like a fish swimming in a stream of whisky, and a reason why the ant-abuse pellets didnt stop besty dropping the joy juice, the reason is that they're Irish, and I reckon you boy's physical constitutions have adapted over the last few hundred years to handle a shandy or two ; )

  • @Soundgardener80 ....or 2000 for that matter...being a welshy I cant handle my drink but I fucking swear to the big guy up there that you lot are the only people who should be going anywhere near that shit

  • @Soundgardener80 Irish ??? Shane mcGowan was born in England. He is off Irish descent but is English

  • @fergiewergie just because you're born in a stable doesn't make you a horse!!! He's IRISH...now get over it and get on with your little life! knobhead!

  • @fergiewergie Actually he's born in Ireland and stayed there until he was maybe 6 or 7, something like that, then went to England to live with his parents, a place he always hated. I mean, what the hell, he's irish, if he isn't, no one is.

  • @AMoldyPeach That's right, his father worked away, so he had to go to London when he was young, and lived there for a few years. If you're born from Irish parents and were yourself born in Ireland, I'd say that makes you Irish! I went to Poland once for a trip, I don't think that makes me Polish.

  • @chesto18 Technically speaking, I believe Shane was was born in England.

  • @hanshotfirst1138 Yes....Kent....of Irish parentage....lived in Ireland for some years before returning to England....not Irish at all....not even sure he even has an Irish accent...

  • @stupotty40 He's Irish by blood, at any rate, and given various interviews I've heard him give and stories I've heard about him, as well as the culture and heritage displayed in his music, that's clearly where he identifies with. He was soaked in Irish culture during him time there, evidently.

  • @chesto18 He was born in Kent

  • @stupotty40 Wikipedia strikes again

  • Hey anyone know of any other folk/punk hybrid groups, the opener (can't remember the name)on Rum Sodomy and the Lash fires me up nice, I don't like the levellers, don't do crusties and theres no punk in them anyway

  • Cropdusters, mate...

  • @Theraptorxx deffo mate! back a few yeas ago we used to cover banjo hill and poppin out to fight a war :-)

  • @dubconor LOL

  • @dubconor

He told the BBC that he didn't like his partials because they made him look "daft." But the reunion tour was partially to sponser his having them fitted.

  • @dubconor what a legend
