  • red shouderd hawk black tail triped tail to but nice video

  • This music gave my boner a boner.

  • What great footage with an unexpected bonus shot! Keep on keepin on!

  • It's like the Hawk is sayin,"Hey bitches.Want some Snake?

There's plenty you know.OH,that's how y'all are.I'll be back tomorrow, and one of you is gonna be where the snake is now,"

(suddenly,a Humming bird takes a fly by crap on the Hawk)

"Hey you lil bastard,i see that mark on your wing

You're gonna be LUNCH to,,OUCH,stop crappin on me".

(all the humming birds take turns dive bombing the Hawk)

"I'll get you man,I'll eat you all"(flies away)

Alpha Humming bird "Don't go away mad,Just go away"

  • Very cool!

  • poor snake dude....i once saw a hawk catch a little sparrow in real life and the sparrow was crying the most pitiful thing i have ever heard.....Truly heartbreaking - and this is coming from someone with a really strong stomach

  • Great video, love hawks.

  • That is an awesome video! So happy you had a tripod! BTW what song is that? it is so badass! Sounds like it belongs during the credits of Predator. haha. But seriously what is the name of it?

  • @svlotoy Thanks. I got lucky. I had the camera already set up for something else.

The music is from the Digital Juice royalty free music library, "Epic" CD. I don't remember the name but you could probably find a preview of it on their web site.

  • Hi ctollis,

Congrats on a great bit of camera work! I am so pleased you had a tripod as well. There can't be many people who have managed to take pics or videos of a kill like that outside of a Zoo or sanctuary?

    Take care,

    mrbluenun

  • Watching your video really made me miss Georgia man. I moved to michigan a couple years ago..God i hate it here.

    Cool vid man.

  • I wiuld share it with others if you corrected the hawk species- it is a red-shouldered hawk Nice video

  • @ticesupplee Done!

I can't change anything in the video itself. YouTube rules.

  • @ticesupplee good call

  • Great vid.

  • the snake still move a little bit

  • guys its not A DAM red tailed hawk it TAIL

  • Great Video

  • Go hawks!

  • Too small to be a redtailed hawk. It's probably a red shouldered hawk or a sharp-shinned hawk?

  • @dixievfd55 definetly a red shouldered. Sharp shins are really small.

  • looks like the dog eat the rest of the snake =-D

  • One more comment as to the species: Looks like a Red-shouldered to me.

    Nice video!

  • ..the snake is still moving!!

  • I think its a coopers hawk

  • Oh my gosh, great video! I love hawks amazing powerful birds. In the early part of the video the snake was still writhing! ewwww, animal kingdom is so uncensored!

  • for those wondering what type of hawk that is. It is a red shouldered hawk. I know this because i see them all the time in my back yard

  • what's up with the dog?

  • looks like a gartner snake

  • great video thank you

  • epic music leads to no action

  • Good footage!

Hawks are my favorite birds to watch, and there are plenty of them in Michigan :-)

  • The hawk is an adult red-shouldered hawk, nice video!

  • Omg...its a fucking hawk RUN!

  • @VirtuosoX1 hawks don't attack people. also it already ate i dont think it wanted dessert

  • that's not a red tailed, it's a red SHOULDERED hawk

  • Hi ctollis,

Really great bit of videographic work, and opportunism! Really splendid and exciting viewing, thank so much, and the music was just right!

    All round brilliant!

    take care,

    mrbluenun

  • EXCELLENT FOOTAGE!

  • Eaten Alive! Awesome spectacle of Nature.

  • 1:13 - 1:30 "Why do I have a feeling that someone's videotaping me and is going to post it on YouTube later? Oh well." *resumes eating*

  • I like the dog, creeping along, watching out for that hawk to come back.

  • Cool music

  • this is not a redtaild hawk

  • Oh my God, it's still alive! D:

  • by the way, looks like u are using the store bought mixture for the humming birds. All you need to do is boil 3.5 cups of water and mix it with 1 cup of sugar. the birds will like it all the same and you will save a lot of $

  • hawks are my heros! if a hawk ate the snake before it tempted Eve it would be a whole different world!

  • looks more like a red shouldered hawk.. idk

  • @YvettewithaVonne red shouldered NOT cooper's but they are all cool as heck. A cooper's gets a dove every week some times 2. I was pissed at first but hey everybodys got to eat. Hummers are the coolest of all. Followed by a owl that comes by late, really all night. He hoots at the damn dog next door and my neighbor told me to not to screw with his dog making those owl sounds??????

  • looks like a cooper's hawk.

  • Amazing video!

After many years of being deceived by Hawk variations, I've learned that Hawks tend to have a lot a variety in appearance. Which is usually due to young verses old rather than male or female. Plus all of the regional variations.

It usually take a dedicated expert (which I'm not) to tell some of them apart.

Anyway U may have a Red-shouldered Hawk there. They are comman

in your area too. Or it's a Red-Tail with a reddish belly. You would know if you

    heard it's calls. I'm Envious!

  • Nice video of a Red-Shouldered Hawk on a kill!

  • I have to agree with the others, it's a red-shouldered (possibly even a young one), definitely NOT a red-tail.

That is an absolutely incredible video. GREAT capture!

  • theres one of those hawks living in back of my house in new hampshire

  • that's really neat

  • whoa that was cool. that snake was freaking me out, it kept moving. and your dog was scoping it out too. great vid!

  • Poor worm He shall always be in our hearts :(

  • not a red taile hawk..it's a coopers hawk.

  • I love it!! I'm in N Alabama and I see these guys hunting all the time in my suburban type area. It's fantastic.

  • is it possible to find hummingbirds in Snellville? or just there in marietta?

  • @TheGarcia350

I don't know of any reason you wouldn't get them in Snellville. We're had very few this year, which has surprised me. At the time I shot this video they were visiting every 10 minutes or so in the afternoon.

Here's a web site with some more GA Hummingbird information: gahummer.org

  • @TheGarcia350 huh so they are a rare sight even....thnx for the info. =)

  • what a great capture! right time, right place, with camera. I also think it may be a red-shouldered hawk.

  • looks like a kestral

  • Very nice video! It does not look like a red-tailed hawk--but it is a similar hawk. Wow--and the snake was quite large--and it was still moving!!! Music was perfect! The dog at the end was a nice touch--well done!

  • @Birdsie39

Thanks! We had guessed red-tailed based on what is likely to be here in Georgia. I haven't changed it in the description because I kind of enjoy getting all the comments telling me I am wrong.

  • @ctollis

You are funny! You are probably right--you get more comments, too, if people disagree! and it's a bit of trouble to change it because RTH is part of the text in the video. I love it when unexpected things like this hawk happen in a video! Nice job!

  • @Birdsie39 I think it may be a Cooper's Hawk. Definitely not a Red-tailed Hawk 'cause there's no red tail and this hawk's body is too long and tapered for a Red Tail.

  • @Birdsie39 that is a red shoulder hawk. I have them in my backyard i see them every single day

  • Fraco...

  • when you have F-16 fly above who won't be panic?

  • Not a red tail. If you noticed it ummm... Doesn't have a red tail. It's most likely a red shouldered hawk. Still cool vid

  • i like the music you put in the video its very fitting :)

  • =[ i wanted to see those lil birdies get owned

  • badass

  • Snake is still moving =)

  • Hawk is like, "i has nom nomz!"

  • I use to see Hawks everyday until they moved to another town. Interesting to watch thou.

  • I'd say that bird's pretty bad ass if he's eating a snake

  • @peacelord Not really. Most birds of prey like to eat snakes if they live in the area. The flag of Mexico has a hawk with a snake in it's claws.

  • That's actually a red-shouldered hawk, not a redtail.

  • eww that snake is still alive! notice the tail keeps moving!

  • WoW thats a amazing Video dude..

  • That appears to be a red-shouldered hawk.

  • haha nice vid !! thats wicked

  • Yep, not a red-tailed. Good video, though.

  • I lived in Marrietta Georgia when I was young and remember the snakes there. I now live in MA and love hummingbirds and other song birds

  • This is definitely a Red Shouldered Hawk! Nice video!

  • You can't beat the music.

  • Yep, a red-shoulder though the light is deceptive.

  • haha i love how the snakes muscles are still reacting to the bird eating it after its dead.

  • thats crazy... great vid i think your dog was cleaning up the scraps that the hawk left btw

  • You've never noticed him before. He comes by all the time and usually grills his catch on your grill. He just saw you this time looking out so he has to eat raw. You will notice him gagging it down.

  • that so cool

  • Nice video and all but for the love of God man please take a speed typing course. Your one....word....a....minute.....typing.....was......killing.......me.

Also did you happen to notice your dog eating the snake leftovers after you went back to the hummingbirds?

  • yup beautiful bird but best bet its a red shouldered hawk for sure...red tails dont have that bright red chest normally its buff with patterns, BUT, there are many color morphs of red tails too...but seeing the tail also helps, so I will stick with red shouldered hawk

  • i would guess red shouldered hawk, they love snakes

  • Based on the markings, I'd say that hawk is not a Red-tailed Hawk but a Sharp-shinned Hawk. You're very lucky to have seen this! Nice hummingbirds too.

  • Definately not a Red Tail you are right, may be a Sharpy or a coopers.... hard to tell the difference unless they are side by side.... which is like only in books....

  • @ladymeserole No. Sharp-shinned hawks are much different looking. They have more of a bluish tone.

  • Snakes have there place, just NOT my place! Good Hawk.

  • that si cool we have one and im tryin to get close to u r lucky

  • wow hawks are big.

  • how do u do those letters comment me back plzz

nice video i love birds of prey

  • It's the Typerwriter text function built into Final Cut Pro 6.

  • Sorry, Typewriter... In the pull down in the Viewer, under the Text options.

  • eventhough the snake is dead some part of its body still moves...but still! DEAD!

  • What's the song? :)

  • One off the Digital Juice "Epic Staxx" disc.

  • Like a Klingon Bird of Pray !

  • title should be Coopers Hawk eats snake while still alive. Cool vid, poor title

  • GOOD BIRD!

  • snake is still moving?

  • Very exciting observation!

I once surprised a bobcat eating a big gopher snake, but it ran off with the snake in its mouth before I could get my camera out.

  • kills snakes id'e keep it around lol

  • Yep, that's an adult red-shouldered hawk. The buffy red chest color give it away. They are the only birds of prey with that chest coloration. An accipiter might have a slightly reddish chest as an adult, but they have bluish/grey back feathers.

  • Red-shouldered hawk 100%

  • Looks like a Red-shouldered hawk to me.

  • That's definitely an accipiter and not a redtail. great vid though

  • Psst...a little birdie told me your hummingbirds are next...

  • Nothing wrong with hawks at all. They're awesome birds, better than mute swans at any rate.

  • Cool color variation. They definitely don't look like that here in Illinois.

  • i think thats a female hawk.. ive saw a few in illinois like this

  • Naw. Not a Red Tailed at all. The stripes on the tail feathers do make it look like an accipiter.

  • no it isnt a coopers

  • Very nice video and music theme!!

  • Awesome! I love red tailed Hawks! Used to live in Malibu Canyon and loved watching them. They used to drop rattle snakes on the elect wires then pick them up again and eat em. I don't kno if they prefered to kill them that way or they just wanted BBQ? Aahhahahaaaa

  • bet those new dog eared fence boards didn't look so new for a while after that hawk got thru w/ eating the bloody snake..

    what a capture!!!.

  • holy crap!!! what a sight !!

  • looks like he's eating a garter snake...

  • haha, and the dog eats the leftovers! Uuuh, Fido your breath smells a little funky...

  • Couldn't tell if I was watching a bird video, or Apocalypse Now.....

  • DRAMATIC MUSIC!!!!!!!!! lol

  • the snake is ALIVE thru it all!!! brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrat!!!!!!

  • 100% red shoulder, Im a falconer and have handled plenty, if you get a Petersons field guide on North American birds of prey it helps out in identifying them

  • haha! and your dog is back there eating the leftover entrails! nice. you dont live off of Eula do ya?

  • Just so you know, red dye is very bad for hummingbirds. Just make white sugar and water mix (boil optional) 1:4 ratio. The red feeder is enough and actually, they prefer homemade sugar water. Happy humming :)

  • HOORAH, LETS GO TO WAR!

  • what song is this?

  • That's a red shouldered hawk trust me I know my avian hybrids

  • Yep, you are 100% correct.

Everyone listen to this person, he knows what he's talking about. The red breast and tail length are dead-giveaways.

  • aww man ...i though the hawk was gnna go after a hummingbird...grrr waited fro nothing

  • whats he eating (a snake)

  • Yes that is a Red-shouldered Hawk but it is a nice bird along with the humming birds. GREAT VID.

  • wow that hawk is interested more in the snake then the hummers in the begining.

  • looks like the snake is still at least half alive while it's being eaten O.o It keeps curling up at times. Especially at 3:20-3:30, you can even see the head standing up between the bird's legs - the hawk hasn't gotten it's head off yet, is just pulling chucks off from it. :P

  • prob just the snakes nerves still firing.

  • it looked like a coopers hawk to me

  • Great video, but this is not a Red-Tailed Hawk. Looking at the tail, I am inclined to think accipiter, in which case I would say Northern Goshawk. It's too big to be either a Sharpie of a Cooper's. But the eyes and the red chest are telling me Red Shouldered Hawk. What do others think? It's definitely not a Red Tailed Hawk though because I have them in my garden and they have a different tail and are bigger. But what a beauty! WOW!

  • red-shouldered!

  • cool

  • are you at arizona? its a lot snake therre.... i,m i right

  • you are sooooo lucky having a backyard like that...

  • ew the snake is still moving.... a bit of karma coming to bite it in the belly

  • poor snake

  • It's clearly a Red Shoulder folks.

  • yes it is a red shouldered-people don't know what there talking about...

  • Sorry unc,but this bird does not match up with a red shouldered hawk except for the barred tail. But I admit it also doesnt quite match a coopers hawk either.

  • what a garb video it would have been cooler if the hawk ate a hummingbird

  • too suspenseful for my high blood pressure

  • Its not a red shouldered hawk either you boob, its a coopers hawk.

  • No, it's a Red Shouldered Hawk. Coopers Hawks have a white or white speckled chest area and Red Shouldered have this rusty color here.

  • Coopers have white and brown on their chest when they are immature, when they are adults they have orange chests.

  • This is a red-shouldered hawk not a red-tailed one.

But one is as nice as the other. ;)

Cet buse est une Buse á Èpaulettes et non une Buse a Queue Rousse.

Mais elle son aussi jolie l'une que l'autre. ;)

  • Does the dog eat the snake at the end? it looks like it does. Also, cool video.

  • It's still Alive..

Probably a Muscle reaction or something.

  • Y DOES THE SNAKE KEEP MOVING?!?!?!?!

  • Amazing such a beautiful bird! we have American Kestrels (sp?) at my house and one time it snatched a bird of the feeder :( Also... the snake moves at 3:24! ew!!

  • that hawk seems to be on the lookout...what goes after hawks?

  • Humans, dogs, cats...

  • As if it isn't awesome enough to see this in the yard, the dramatic music makes it perfect.

  • Looks as though the grass snake its eating is playing dead or at least trying too. Everytime the Hawk takes a bite out of it it moves, then seems like it tries to remain calm after. Nice timing on the footage.

  • Red shouldered hawk. Cool to see one of those eat.

  • That is definitely a Red-shouldered Hawk, not a Red-tailed. I like the music. Great video.

  • I especially like the dog on the feeder at the end of the video! Good optical illusion

  • oh my goodness!!! and in Georgia too...icky icky snake action...lovely menacing hawk-def not red tail-I thought of sharp skinned or Cooper's too-good video-good music too...scarey :-)

  • Nice video and good hawk music BUT it is a Red Shouldered Hawk..key..look at the tail, even immature Red Tailed Hawks dont have bars on their tails And they are more husky than this bird.

  • good hawk music!

  • amazing ...but yuk yuk yuk on that snake : /

    Charlene

  • I'm pretty sure this is a red shouldered hawk. They can be easily confused with red tails though.
