  • Great vid loved purple haze

  • Nice one, one of these day's we'll be able to get our bow drill working. Last time we got a lot of smoke but no ember. We'll try softer wood the next time.

  • first vid with no dislikes

  • @alein67a

i dont get the thing with dislikes, and i dont know what it is they dont like, they never say,

  • Thumbs up for Jimmy!

  • Thanks Fredde my friend.

  • I wish I had the time to get out like you do, maybe some day ......

  • Hey Fredde,

The vids are still look'n great. (the JH music ROCK'D!!!)

I like the new background, is it from QFF?

  • @livereatnjohnson

    yeah it is,, cool pic

  • well done :)

    take care

  • Cool catch, great Bow Drill, fine place! Nice fire and sound : ) Good stuff, thanks, Sepp

  • Very nice! It would help a lot if you reduce the friction where your top piece and spindle meet. All the extra friction just makes more work! If you crush up some pine needles or widdle down the spindle. Perfect form though

  • Excellent info, my friend! Thanks for Sharing!

  • Yeah bushcraft haze are in my mind!

  • Thanks for the info Freddy, nice to hear from Jimmy as well.

  • Nice info, thanks! So far only thing I've managed to do is get my fingers bruised.

  • you have a beautifull country and good people..this is my opinion...and good water with big pike...im a fisherman :))))

  • Good one, Fredde.

  • @bindlestitch1

thanks, nice to hear from you

  • I gathered a lot of different wood in my area and used an electric drill to test various combinations to see which ones smoked the fastest. The drill makes it easy to get a consistant test. I found that using a spindle and fireboard of the same wood worked better than mixing wood. But my favorite is cypress and a dried goldenrod stalk. Pine, oak, and hickory were far too difficult to use at all.

  • ¡Great!

  • Here in Montana, CottonWood is my go to spindle and board if I can find it

  • Thank for answering my question Fredde! I've been trying the Bowdrill everyday for the last 8 weeks with Pine. Tons of smoke and dust but no ember, hopefully now i'll get it right :)

  • @CiaranRooney125

why did you start with pine ?

  • @hobbexp Softwood? :) I'm thinking Sycamore / Hazel might be a good choice?

  • @CiaranRooney125 Sycamore

i dont have Sycamore here, and i dont use hazel, but i know guys who do,

  • @CiaranRooney125

sycamore is one of the best woods to use fella. Hazel is good too so your good to go with either. I'd say stick with sycamore until you get your technique down and then have a bash with hazle as its slightly harder than sycamore. Good luck dude

  • @branni79 I feel i've got my technique down pretty darn well. I can go for around 30 seconds at a good solid speed before getting tired and then the spindle usually pops out. I'm gonna give Sycamore a go today, Thanks!

  • @CiaranRooney125

no worries. spindles flying out is all part of the process. :) good luck

  • @CiaranRooney125

HA, i know you , you are the guy with the back pack,

anyway, the bow drill is not so much about the wood you use as long its not to hard, its a internet thing to focus on what wood to use,

    its more about the technique

    fredde

  • @hobbexp That i am :) Just gotta keep practising, Hopefully i'll get it soon!

  • @hobbexp I've tried explaining this so many times! Everyone want's a magic set that works for anyone, but it doesn't exist! With good technique you can make it work with a bad set soaked in water....sometimes...:)

  • Excellent information
