I think that this film is best taken in conjunction with Aronofsky's preceding offering, The Wrestler. Very similar themes about a person with a demanding craft. Not to mention two of the finest leading performances of the past few years.
Natalie Portman 'said' she danced and did about '85%' of the dancing herself, according to Sarah Lane, the ballerina double in Black Swan. She mislead people purposely to think she actually did most of the dancing. That's unethical. And who knows how much of the engagement news, pregnancy news, lesbian scene and her 'dancing performance' as a ballerina contributed to her Oscar win....That's not good acting that's just putting all the right variables together.

If this gets an oscar that will be the day when making quality films has died not only the making but critics ability to tell what a good film is and I will cry lol. I don't even think Aronofsky would give himself an oscar for this and to Natalie! a face that never moved. This is a film of cliches and I know life is built on them but only when there is no other way to describe something, this film could have thought up better ways to demonstrate the various ideas instead of succumbing.

If you have seen Requiem for a Dream or The Wrestler, you know that these scenes are not in these movies to make them look pleasurable. This is going to be one intense film. Mixing sexual tension with psychological suspense. Natalie Portman gives a strong performance as ballet dancer slowly becoming unhinged not only by Kunis's character but also by her own dark side.

I, for one, adore the lead actresses but I'd be lying to myself and the world if I said this movie piqued my interest. The Cheese Factor is strong in this one.
I must say this does seem pretty interesting. Being in the Theater bussiness and having been in dance I can tottaly understand the sense of threatening competition. At times the competition does get really very intense, you litterally have to fight with yourself in order to get the role or part that you want. Seems intruiging, great actresses, interesting story line. I'll be seeing this one in the movie theater.

This seems like an incrediable movie. So impowering. A beutiful movie and terrifying thrill. A very daring role that only the right actress could portray. They chose well. Also, the girl on girl doesn't always mean lesbian. Sometimes it is curiousity or the fact that a women is so confident in her sexuality that she is able to do something such as that. In the case of The Edge Of Love, the two women trusted each other enough to give the other their body. It's just as natural as a woman and man.
The movie is awesome. I've seen it at TIFF but don't understand that agiotage around Natalie Portman. She was good but Mila Kunis and Winona Ryder impressed me Much More

I don't really think Natalie Portman is a good actress. I think she is smart, however, for taking roles that have excellent directors, and actors who are apart of the making of the film. I think all of this contributes to make her look better. It seems like other well established actors and directors seem to make her look like a "better actress" in my eyes when if she was put into a role without these factors, she would fail.
I know nothing about Black Swab other than the homophobic aspect probably helps make the dynamic between all the characters that much more complex and unpredictable... so from a story telling perspective – I'm in.

Well Yuffie obviously that was not the focal point of the movie. Although it was certainly the "Buzz" factor according to many of the comments below.
I personally did not care for the movie. Poor acting and lousy substance. It should have received a "B" rating at best.

This movie is packed full of substance. YOU obviously know nothing of theater, or substance because if you did, you'd know that you need to actually SEE a play/movie in order to tell if there's substance in the first place, rather than judging scenes that you see out of context.

This is going to be one intense film. Mixing sexual tension with psychological suspense. Natalie Portman gives a strong performance as ballet dancer slowly becoming unhinged not only by Kunis's character but also by her own dark side.

We see the movie from the vantage point of Portman's character, which is a distortion of reality. No one is trying to steal her role, she is not in love with he instructor. Kunis's becomes Portman's alter ego "black swan" and at the same time is a real person. In the end Portman accepts the black swan as a real part of her...etc

I must say this does seem pretty interesting. Being in the Theater bussiness and having been in dance I can tottaly understand the sense of threatening competition. At times the competition does get really very intense, you litterally have to fight with yourself in order to get the role or part that you want. Seems intruiging, great actresses, interesting story line. I'll be seeing this one in the movie theater.

This seems like an incrediable movie. So impowering. A beutiful movie and terrifying thrill. A very daring role that only the right actress could portray. They chose well. Also, the girl on girl doesn't always mean lesbian. Sometimes it is curiousity or the fact that a women is so confident in her sexuality that she is able to do something such as that. In the case of The Edge Of Love, the two women trusted each other enough to give the other their body. It's just as natural as a woman and man.

I don't really think Natalie Portman is a good actress. I think she is smart, however, for taking roles that have excellent directors, and actors who are apart of the making of the film. I think all of this contributes to make her look better. It seems like other well established actors and directors seem to make her look like a "better actress" in my eyes when if she was put into a role without these factors, she would fail.

omg i totally agree!! aronofsky is a fucking genius and i cant wait to see this. requiem had to be one of the greatest films ever made and it seems like this one will have no problem making the list. i guess most people just dont get what his writing is all about. i feel bad for them. and having spent 16 years in the ballet world im excited to see how he got portman to pull this off, technically AND emotionally. but hes sooo good at getting into the subculture and really understanding it.

I am going to be the middle ground neutral kinda guy here and point out that
Mila Kunis and Natille Portman is making out would be hot!
AND, AND, AND...
I also love Afronsky's work as a director and he has an imaginative and vivid way of storytelling. Almost like art.
Especially in Requiem for a Dream.
I will be watching this movie for both aspects.
