So unless you're trying to be a ricer and make noise or you have a large amount of power that needs to be regulated from the turbo you have ABSOLUTELY no need for an aftermarket BOV. Multiple tests have shown a loss of power from aftermarket BOV's vs stock BPV's. It's not like you risk detonation at the power this bug eye is putting out. Why would you want a BOV releasing the pressure when you're not boosting much to begin with? It's stupid.

Again read up. You're correct I should of elaborated. BPV's and BOV's do have the same exact function, but perform it differently. Stock boost levels, or stock turbos DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT need aftermarket BOV's. It's purely a sound mod if you don't have big power to back it up. When I got my SRT4 an HKS BOV I lost a couple HP dyno proven.
A BOV comes standard on all turbocharged cars and doesn't need to be upgraded until you're putting down MAJOR power. Only ricers get aftermarket ones to make alot of noise right away. The stock ones on the WRX are made to withstand approx 400 horse. You lose power if anything because a BOV releases excess boost but assuming the turbo can handle it that= more power.

See this is what people who watch fast and furious thing. A big top mount is just as efficient as a front mount unless we are talking about a 600 hp car. Also you can just get a tune and skip the wastegate. I got a tune that has taken me from 190 hp 200 tq to 230 horse and 260 plus torque. My boost went from 11 psi average (2.5l boosts less) to 15 PSI average. BOV is one of the absolute worst mods for a WRX.

Yes it's a bypass valve but until you crack 350 horse like I said you don't need aftermarket BOV, Correct though a Bypass valve isn't exactly a BOV but they both do the SAME EXACT in that they prevent compressor surges. One releases the air the other recirculates. Tests have proven countless times you LOSE power with a BOV not gain.

The reason a turboback gives gains is because most the backpressure is in the DP... and when you go catless DP especially you eliminate a good portion of that, especially when combined with bigger piping catback on a turbocharged car. A Catback alone though has proven countless times to give very little power and more sound on turbocharged cars.
Anyone who puts a BOV on their WRX is a fucking ricer. I swear every WRX owner with a BOV is Mexican around here. It doesn't sound cool on the beautiful boxer engine and it's extremely lame to waste money on one.
Hmmm.. stock dyno numbers of 170 hp 180 tq for a bug eye vs stock numbers of 230 hp and 240 tq for the 350Z. Don't make it sound like it's an unfair race bro. Both cars run a flat 14 stock. My 2.5L though on the other hand has pulled a 13.6 stock on Nasioc on a 1.8 second 60 foot launch which isn't even that amazing. The Z driver in this video didn't know how to drive. AWD or not he shouldn't of gotten creamed that bad by a WRX with an exhaust and BOV.
It did seem a little quicker than a nearly stock 2.0 but I highly doubt any engine mods. What could he do? Cams? Bore? I mean the EJ20 is fine with the stock motor until he's reaching high 200's- low 300's. The noob didn't even do a slip he did a clutch dump. THe car isnt gonna burn out like a RWD or a FWD. But coming from a stand still the evo and wrx are gonna have more power to the front wheels first then the rear. Yes they are geared into one system. But all four tires have theyre own ability to move at different speeds. Unless you put a locker system in the front and rear dif's. Then and only then will they move at one speed. The only problem is your cant take turns very well on a daily drive. Unless they are electronicly controlled.
@darkembolt you replied to the wrong person but uhh yeah all four tires would spin on the subaru if you popped the clutch at about 6k rpms... and subarus cars come with symmetrical all wheel drive which means that the transmission is right in the middle of the car and that unless one or more of the wheels lose any traction the computer sends extra power to the wheels with traction.
Not a HKS not high pitched enough and a decent VTA valve only make a difference to the AFR when it dumps, due to less air causing pops and with a decat, flames
@3711060 Yeah you could be right on the type of BOV it was a guess on my part. But yeah messing with the AFR when it vents is bad enough for me. I don't want my car popping that to me says something is wrong.
While running a VTA valve while still using MAF sensor's not ideal, but it does no harm either. The standard recirc valve's good for way over 360bhp so you'll need to change turbo (even on an STI) before changing BOV. You love them... or you hate them.
@3711060 Yeah I got one for my 03 WRX that I am building up with an 18G turbo. Just to make sure that it holds boost. They start to leak around 18-20 psi so I just wanted to make sure it hold up because i am running about 18psi.
@plinton876 No the 18G I have has it's own internal wastegate and the stock bypass valve if it's in good condition can hold no more than 20psi. But usually if the car has 40-50,000+ on them then they are a little worn and don't hold as much. If you run higher boost it is best to run a newer bypass valve so you don't get any boost leak. The wastegate being too big would mean that it wouldn't leak out properly at high boost.
I'll agree with yall on that one. STi are quick stock. But an also added bonus is how the motor is set up from the engine not fighting with gravity as much. It pritty much slides on top of it. And yes a BVO can add power. I'm going to school for automotive. And my instructor is a Subbie nut and can tell you alot about them. Dude - a 1990 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX has that "clap" from the Factory. That was a blow off valve. WRX's, Evo's - almost any turbocharged car from 1990 onwards has it from the factory ( only they're recirculated back to intake to keep A;F ratio in check )

The reason a turboback gives gains is because most the backpressure is in the DP... and when you go catless DP especially you eliminate a good portion of that, especially when combined with bigger piping catback on a turbocharged car. A Catback alone though has proven countless times to give very little power and more sound on turbocharged cars.

Hmmm.. stock dyno numbers of 170 hp 180 tq for a bug eye vs stock numbers of 230 hp and 240 tq for the 350Z. Don't make it sound like it's an unfair race bro. Both cars run a flat 14 stock. My 2.5L though on the other hand has pulled a 13.6 stock on Nasioc on a 1.8 second 60 foot launch which isn't even that amazing. The Z driver in this video didn't know how to drive. AWD or not he shouldn't of gotten creamed that bad by a WRX with an exhaust and BOV.

It did seem a little quicker than a nearly stock 2.0 but I highly doubt any engine mods. What could he do? Cams? Bore? I mean the EJ20 is fine with the stock motor until he's reaching high 200's- low 300's. The noob didn't even do a slip he did a clutch dump. The worst possible thing you can do to an AWD tranny especially the bug eye's which were made of glass.

THe car isnt gonna burn out like a RWD or a FWD. But coming from a stand still the evo and wrx are gonna have more power to the front wheels first then the rear. Yes they are geared into one system. But all four tires have theyre own ability to move at different speeds. Unless you put a locker system in the front and rear dif's. Then and only then will they move at one speed. The only problem is your cant take turns very well on a daily drive. Unless they are electronicly controlled.

@darkembolt you replied to the wrong person but uhh yeah all four tires would spin on the subaru if you popped the clutch at about 6k rpms... and subarus cars come with symmetrical all wheel drive which means that the transmission is right in the middle of the car and that unless one or more of the wheels lose any traction the computer sends extra power to the wheels with traction.

Not a HKS not high pitched enough and a decent VTA valve only make a difference to the AFR when it dumps, due to less air causing pops and with a decat, flames

While running a VTA valve while still using MAF sensor's not ideal, but it does no harm either. The standard recirc valve's good for way over 360bhp so you'll need to change turbo (even on an STI) before changing BOV. You love them... or you hate them.

@3711060 Yeah I got one for my 03 WRX that I am building up with an 18G turbo. Just to make sure that it holds boost. They start to leak around 18-20 psi so I just wanted to make sure it hold up because i am running about 18psi.

@plinton876 No the 18G I have has it's own internal wastegate and the stock bypass valve if it's in good condition can hold no more than 20psi. But usually if the car has 40-50,000+ on them then they are a little worn and don't hold as much. If you run higher boost it is best to run a newer bypass valve so you don't get any boost leak. The wastegate being too big would mean that it wouldn't leak out properly at high boost.

I'll agree with yall on that one. STi are quick stock. But an also added bonus is how the motor is set up from the engine not fighting with gravity as much. It pritty much slides on top of it. And yes a BVO can add power. I'm going to school for automotive. And my instructor is a Subbie nut and can tell you alot about them. And how alot of these morons doin burn out dont know how harmful it is for the AWD systems.

Dude - a 1990 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX has that "clap" from the Factory. That was a blow off valve. WRX's, Evo's - almost any turbocharged car from 1990 onwards has it from the factory ( only they're recirculated back to intake to keep A;F ratio in check )
Shop? I installed a BOV on my car in my driveway - punked it off a junkyard Eclipse :)

I believe the 370 Z goes past 300 stock. Not 350. I think what you mean is a clutch and flywheel upgrade to help minimize drivetrain loss. It makes 300+ at a certain RPM. Until it hits that RPM it does not make 300 horsepower. What you are saying makes absolutely no sense. Try to do some research on what exactly a transmission does before you post on the internet acting like you know what you're talking about. No offense btw.
