  • what is that clicking noise they were making? i was always curious to know when i was a little kid when i watched those pentrex videos.

  • @TPBX225 It's the air resevoirs and air dryers.

  • that is not over powered

  • @Mandy7574 yes you are sorta right because when ever they have a lot of engines they dont all have to running sometimes they transport them or it might even mean that they are going to pick up a bigger freight line.

  • can you tell me why the engines are backwards sometimes? Does it matter which way they are facing?

  • @OHSOOOFLY Operations wise there is no difference what so over. The only difference is crew comfort as most engines are set for the short hood of the engine to lead.

  • i would have fell down laughingif there wa only one car

  • is there an engineer in every single engine? and what about a caboose if there is one on the train?

  • @LEGTxFHUZI Just the lead engine. No caboose.

  • @GEES44DC Well then whats the point of all the other engines if no one is driving them?

  • @LEGTxFHUZI They are all controlled from the lead engine. On this train, not every engine is actually providing pulling power ... but if they were ... it would still be all from the first one.

  • @GEES44DC Thanks for the info man

  • @GEES44DC Back in the day they had cabooses and had a conductor or break men riding in the back. but, no more. The only time cabooses are used is in small yard transfers. Well, that's what they do on the west coast of the U.S.

  • 5 GP9's! Lucky to see that! All I get are CN SD70M-2's, ES44DC'S, SD75I's and GP40-2W's and SD40-2W's, I have only been able to see 2 GP9's in my lifetime, Awesome shot!!!

  • @CNRailWabamun Same things here...and ofcourse its because we railfan the same line lol.

  • I stilllll dont think the have enough power!!

  • Then its a light engine move nub.

  • they were probably positioning moves to get the locos in the right place for their next duty

  • At first I'm like 5 engines piff, but then the train ended ten cars later, wtf waste of money much. Near me the skimp, 120 cars with only two engines maybe those come down the Appalachians so they dont need the power idk

  • cool

  • ooo i c its petrol... kk

  • is that one is so havy...???

  • watch my video Railfanning North of Woodbridge part 1

  • no, not at all. Overpowered is 8 CSX's on one train

  • Interesting lash-up. Two GP38-2s, am SD40-2, a control cab converted from a GP35 and a GP38-2. I'm surprised those control cabs are still around. Unlike CSX's versions, these aren't road slugs.

  • nice catch!

  • Great sound!

  • To be fair, 1125 is a road slug, but yes, that's a lot of power for a few cars. :)

  • Sometimes railroads will add extra units in transit back to the main yard after road switching. or re-supply a yard with units.

  • Sometimes railroads will add extra units in transit back to the main yard after road switching.

  • did nt hear a whistle

  • @firefly54220 Exempted crossing.

  • 5 jeeps isnt overpowered because they are 4-axle locomotives. one dash9 or SD-70 M.A.C./SD-60 M.A.C. is equvelant to one and a half jeeps. (educated guess)

  • @tickeledfunnybone 4 GP38-2's and an SD40-2. There's 11000 available horsepower there.

  • @GEES44DC takes a little less then 3 SD70ACe's to equal that at around 4300hp each

  • @GEES44DC

    11k hp... so like 2 dash 9's? or 2 and a 1/4 of them

  • @GEES44DC also happens to be three 44AC's, or three 70ace's, or even two AC6000CW's. but yes, for a road switch of that length, probably overpowered =p

  • @tickeledfunnybone actually it is equivalent to 2.5 AC4400CW's, or Dash 9s.

  • @tickeledfunnybone Were the cars possibly empties?

  • Comment removed

  • maybe 1 or two locos started to haul the freight but developed a problem so two more locos coupled on????

  • maybe just moving some power?

  • chances are that was just a cut of cars and they were picking up more to go through the mountains in BC we see it all the time working on the tracks they pull a cut into a siding head somewhere else pick up another cut and then couple back onto the first cars and head to where they gotta go

  • They were headed east lol.

  • @GEES44DC lol then i dont know haha paid by the footage lol extra feet extra coin

  • @TheDude69696969

around here it's called doubling the hill

  • @TheDude69696969 around here it's called doubling the hill

  • no it wasn't overpowered. they have extra engines in case the lead one gets totaled by a moose or something. they can just jump into the next engine

  • @the1thatgotirwin Lol ok.

  • @the1thatgotirwin

LOLWUT. A moose can't put a scratch on a train. Train is more soild than a car. And the plow on the front, and knuckle coupling, No way. And the actual engines are behind the cab. Unless they hit a moose 8 stories high, Train ain't gonna have a scratch.

  • @the1thatgotirwin But even so. Do they seriously expect 5 moose's to come along and smash up the trains....... 3 I could understand, but 5 is a bit overpowered.

  • @2midtownmadness They could have easily been re-positioning power or balancing power onthe line. And of course if they were making a return trip the tonnage anticipated for that trip could require 5 units.

I've often sent out 4 units with 3-4 cars.....but on the return trip bring in 100 loads.

  • @LegendaryGamin

O noe! dats not rite atoll. We noe yoo doe-nt say dat dare "eh" in evry sentence eh? Dats kinda like yoo beavers thinkin we americans say UMEN when we doe-nt say dat atoll eh... because it's not like dat atoll eh it's HUMAN.

  • I think second and last two locos are off.

    They just tow along nicely.

You can hear that by listening the burshes rubing...

  • only one online. moving power to another local.

  • No, they were hauling all the BS the Republicans put out!

  • The last two engines were not online.

  • Does CP rail really need 5 locomotives for this job. One locomotive should be suffice

  • That's a lot of H.P.

  • you people hav it all wrong....all those units were pulling and correctly loaded...they were hauling paper and ink for the health care bill

  • @earseyesnose You hit it right on thr head.

  • YAY for CP rail!

  • I remember watching this video when you first put it up. Actually your videos were some of the first videos of trains that I saw on YT. To bad I decided to join in 2008 because people like you who started in 2006 have lot's of views and subscribers. Ryan

  • Maybe CP should lease some power to CN. It seems that CP has more power than they know what to do with, whereas CN will put two sd40-2's on a 150 car manifest.

  • @bnsfMAN93 CN has lots of power in storage. The reason you see so few engines on CN trains is because their operating plan is to put just enough power on the train to crawl it up the biggest hill on the route its travelling.

  • @GEES44DC I guess since CN has so little high-priority freight, this works for them

  • @bnsfMAN93 It's nothing to do with that at all. It's just CN believes in getting 110% out of every locomotive at all times with the fewest loco's possible.

  • 5*****!

  • i guess the price of diesel doesnt bother them.

  • If you listen, 3081, 3126 and 5734 are all running. 1125 is a slug/cab control and 3035 is shutdown. Its isolated from the others, and either has smartstart on it or is dead and drained.

  • NEEDS MORE POWER in my opinion

*does the Tim the Toolman Taylor grunt laugh*

  • the locomotives are proubly broken and they are taking them some where else

  • One or two locos is enough for 10 cars!Maybe they gonna couple extra cars?..donno...

  • This is the #4 Switcher, Carseland Job. Depending on how many cars(can be up to 100 cars and over 10 000 tons) they will be bringing back into town and by how cold it is, this is just the right amount of power. On occasion they have had 3 AC4400Cws doing the work out there.

  • Transferring extra units from one terminal to another terminal that needs power. That's my guess.

  • there moving the locomotives

  • its not over powered they are just doing a power move, prob taking some of those to a yard somewhere, or maybe some need repairs.

  • Rofl, I have seen an 8 engine one. Also for thoose who think we say, "EH," in every sentence we speak.. you are fucking idiots.

  • ...eh

  • i've seen that stereotype before and i've wondered where it comes from.

  • Loads of GP38-2's!!!

  • It's not OVERPOWERED. Sometimes they just move locomotives like cars. it doesn't mean they are all providing power. but if they all were, that's quite the waste of fuel.

  • Not to be rude, but you spelled OVERPOWERED wrong. Nice video!

  • needs more power

  • lots more.

  • The 2nd last unit was actually a road slug.

  • road slug? in what way? it looks the same as all the others.

  • Actually it's not a slug - just a control cab.

You can';t really tell from the video, you have to know CP's numbers. 1100 series are control cabs. Their engines are deactivated or removed and replaced with ballast (concrete). CP used them for trains that only needed the power of one engine, but couldn't wye or turn the power at their destination.

1125 is formerly a GP35, and now a control cab. Not too many of those control cabs left on CP, nice catch.

  • Looks like a power move to me.

  • heavy rail cars "EH"

  • wow 5 engines on that train, amazing how they can shut off engines they don't need, while the others are pulling.

  • stillllll the only needed one gp38 or the sd40 to pull that easily

  • hahaah yeah welll overpowered damn

  • Furthermore the GP-38 is not a very powerful locomotive...

  • They are powerful if you know how to run them.

  • the last 2 units were off.

  • @EMDFAN1988 This correct.

Usually in the winter, they leave them running.

But i'm thinking this was a power move.

Clearly, one loco was enought for this train.

  • @EMDFAN1988 how do u know

  • A couple of those engines could have been off and being hauled.

  • Judging by the sounds (rather hard to do), only the 3 lead loco's were running on their own power?

  • probally a power move.

  • i seen 9 cp engines go passed mah house.

  • waiting at a crossing for the train to pass is very relaxing in today's hectic world

even better with a video cam

  • No horn was blown.

  • It's a no horn zone.

  • i'm a conductor for union pacific and you never can tell if it's overpowered unless you know the tonnage just from watching the video and looking at the smoke stacks and listening he/she probably had the first three in power and the rear two in isolation

  • What a beautiful day to be out watching trains.

  • What, nothing on the back end to help ?

    ROFLMAOPIP

  • some are probably cut out and idling.

  • one unit the 2nd last unit 1125 is a control cab slug unit and the last was her mother unit

  • That train had 4 GP38-2s & a SD40-2 pulling 10 cars, what a freakin' waste

  • It picked up a lot more online.

  • ahh 52 Street crossing, I recognize the canal.

  • where did you get this shot?

  • West end of CP's Calgary intermodal terminal.

  • Very nice. That's close to where I shot one of my videos of CP Rail as well except I was at the other end in Shepard just past where they cross 114th Ave in the S.E. before crossing 84th St.

  • You Would Think That It Was Overpowered But They Just Dont Maintain Like They Used Too !

  • Actually its the other way around. It just left the originating terminal and was headed out to make herself larger.

  • auxiliary units. that train was on a siding already broken down from its original size.

  • Yes, I do believe the last two were in isolation.

  • overpowered? answer: yes

  • Nice video! It didn't sound like all the locomotives were running to me.

  • Thanks for shooting at the railroad crossing. I've been wanting to see Canadian crossing signals!
