The belting advice actually isn't bad. For high notes, you shouldn't shy away and sing more softly, but turn it up a notch and sing them with power! You seem to have that down, but a couple of the "thank you, Lord" bits could have been stronger. This is a significantly difficult song, though.
Hi, Cory. We learned this song at my Lutheran grade school to sing every Thanksgiving. I like the movie soundtrack version a bit better, though. People say derogative stuff about Godspell, but the soundtrack is wonderful.
I just finished doing Godspell at my school and this was my song, ok, being a girl it was a little harder for me because they made me sing it up the octave then belt a G xP
But anyway, this is so good <3
Just a couple of tips.
1. Watch your diction, it's a bit hard to hear
2. You get a really sweet tone during the chorus but then get rigid again during the verses. That sweet tone is what makes the song. You're praising God!
Saw it two weeks ago on Bway. This song was performed well and the show was generally good with high energy. The only weak part, was the Actor who portrayed Christ. I have a feeling he will be replaced.
Cory, I wanted to listen to this song and decided on your version. It is beautiful and I will set it as a favorite and listen to it again. Now that you're 19, maybe you want to post another video of you singing?
good sounding voice.. high notes are rough. Also it might be my computer speakers or you but your losing a lot of the end consonants. ex.. lan- (land) han- (hand) Couple Lor- 's (lord) work on getting those d's and t's in there and work the upper register and it should be pretty good.
Hi Cory. I like it. You've got the tools, you just have to pound your upper registry! All the notes are there, but if you want to make a difference on B'way you should be able to belt. Think about singing without amplification
@andwayne1 Pound? That's going to ruin his vocal chords bad advice from someone who obviously has never studied.
Cory, I aggree you have talen. Find a good teacher that will help you expand and approach your singing from a heathly, intellegent way. I've seen too many amatuer singers develop nodules or ruin their chords from bad approaches to "belting it out" . Most Broadway singers use mics now days.
If you ever get a chance, listen to the original West End Cast recording of this. It is so much better than the Broadway recording. Jeremy Irons and Paul Nicholas, perfect.
@belhillcrew I looked for it for years (literally - at least 10 years), and finally found it on vinyl in a charity shop in Henley. I was visibly shaken when I finally held it, the shop assistant commented on it. A couple of weeks later I found another copy for 50p in a charity shop in Wokingham. I handed it over to the manager and suggested they get it valued. I've seen it for £30 on ebay.
beautiful job! I sang this song in my high school production of Godspell in October 2007. this and "Mooning" from Grease will definitely be my favorite two songs from my high school acting career!
