I'm 19 years old and I can honestly say Doris day amongst some other beauties is one of my biggest idols. She was effortlessly beautiful and just watching her in films brings a smile to my face. Such a woman.
Somefavs, Doris has recorded this song where she sings the whole song it is just beautiful. I wish you or someone would upload it. Doris is my all time favorite female singer. ♥♫♪
Without those great composers, Berlin, Rodgers, Cole Porter, Harry Warren et al and Jimmy VanHeusen for this song, there would be no Sinatra. Also great credit to orchestration - Nelson Riddle - for his backup. And the addition of Doris Day was the icing on the cake making this great, I watch this clip about 5 times a day . Thankyou for posting.
You betcha! Thank you very much for that fine list of acknowledgments. I have felt that way about Nelson Riddle myself. My favorite Sinatra era was when he recorded with Nelson and that great orchestra. Riddle's arrangement and backup on "Just One of Those Things" (Cole Porter) is superb.
Doris Day was always my favorite Pop - Singer. That crystal clear endearing voice with a smile. A beautiful lady that can dance up a storm and is an outstanding actor as well. If the show or movie had Doris Day in it it was always a box office draw. Today the kids have Madonna and Lady Ga-Ga to as role models..... and those are the good ones!. Long live Doris. Eddie in New York.
this was a theme song of my favorite radio station. it was being played before the start of the program. and i love it very much. very nice romantic song.
Wow. how cool. I never heard this song on the radio and I always wondered why. One of the most beautiful songs from that era as sung by them both. The both did solos of this song but the duet is my favorite.
This is great. I watch this film every Xmas and never tire of it. I know it can be seen as a lot of middle American rubbish, but it is fantasy after all, and to be honest there is no one in entertainment today to match these two.
Such a lovely woman and yet, she never liked herself. I think a lot of us suffer from that. When I was a child and would try tp imagine myself being loved by someome in the future, I would pretend that I was Doris Day. It was the only way I could picture it.
Theme song. That's really nice to know. This song never got the airplay it should have in my opinion. If it wasn't for the movie, I never would have known it even existed. I'm happy to learn that others are keeping it alive.
this is one overlooked film, full of real emotion, which is unusual for that era. I cried more than once. I've always loved Doris Day's voice, but it's forgotton how great an actress she was. She is wonderful in ''the man who knew too much'' as well.
@Alishhh4 Gotta agree about Young At Heart. There is such an emotional depth in Frank's performance, an honesty that just rings true. Everyone else was great in this movie. One of my favs to be sure.
Theres been a lot of conficting stories about Sinatra.I prefer the one that casts him as very nice person. You could not sing like that and not be nice.
Could be. It's like the record company let this one slip right through their fingers. It's a real shame too. I see such good reactions to this song. Frank and Doris each did a solo of this song but this duo is my favorite version. It just conveys something beautiful to the soul...a loveliness and warmth.
Doris is my all time favorite of female singers, she sings with such feeling, like she is singing only to you, her first singing coach Grace Rain taught her this technique and she never forgot it..
She is definitely among the best in my opinion. Such warmth, genuineness and depth. After recently learning of her courage and perseverance in the face of the accident that actually lead to her singing carear, I can understand. (If you haven't read about it, google it. She's a real trouper.) It was good advice Grace gave her. I remember a childrens show host (can't remember his name though) who said he used to look at the camera and talk to that one little buckaroo.
Do you have Doris singing this song my herself? was on her album your my thrill and young at heart..she does such a gret job on this song by herself, sorry Frank..
Sorry, no. I didn't even know she did the song solo. I just found out last year that Frank did a solo of the song but after listening to it, I don't think it comes close to their duet.
P.S. I just went over to Amazon and searched for "YOU, MY LOVE DORIS DAY" as was able to listen to a clip of her solo version of the song. Wow. You're right. It's Beautiful!
I love Doris Day some say my voice sounds exactly like hers...if you watch all her movies she can really emote love in her eyes stealing the show everytime!
Do you have anything uploaded online. I'd love to hear you sing. I'm a singer too and I think a little of Doris is there in my voice too. I always loved her. How about Secret Love! What a song. What a singer.
Sinatra nails that F4 on the word of !!....probably the best F4 I ever heard him sing. As for Doris, what can I say, she is one of my favorites of all time. I only wish her and Sinatra made more records together, their voices fit so well together. Thanks for posting.
Undoubtedly a timeless film, filled with heart warming romance and meaningful love, it surprises you then when you cant recall a single time they kissed, just goes to show, a passionate romance, does not have to be show in such 'passionate literary terms'
When we said goodbye to people like these, we said goodbye to class.
But Miss Doris Day, you still hold that ounce of class left in this world, the world will not only lose you, it will lose the many good things it stood for.
everything was so defined back then, the goodies wore white hats and the baddies black ones, but most of all a melody was a melody, oh yeah there are some today no doubt but back then thats all there was, what made it so great though was that we were young and looking at life through rose coloured glasses, we did'nt notice the smoke and grime. I could'nt do it all again now, but if I was young I could., we all could.
I know what you mean. Sometimes I wonder if those times were really as good as I remember them or is it because I remember them with a child's memory.
This is one of my very favorite Doris Day movies and she and Frank Sinatra are two of my favorite singers. They are absolutely the best, but Doris Day hasn't received the recognition she deserves. It's too bad that movies can't be like this today. Thanks for posting it.
It is so wonderful to see the immaculate Doris Day as she appeared in this movie.
I have never forgotten this particular song since the movie was released and the flawless looks and facial expressions of Miss Day makes me want to sing to her: "you my love".
This is Sinatra at his best ! His high F4 here on the word love is just beautiful, what quality he had in his upper range. Like I said before, he had so much more upper range than he cared to use. Thanks for posting.
@pokergalpoker Don't forget that they didn't have air conditioning yet in common homes, especially in small towns, yet everyone dressed up and men sweated in wool suits. Stereotypes and racism was mostly accepted then (not always). Not saying life is any better now, just saying that things aren't always as they appear. Tell you what, I couldn't function back then because there was no Chapstick, hand lotion, iPhones, etc ;-) It is beautiful, though, isn't it.
I haven't seen this film in years but I remember wondering how someone as jolly and beautiful as Doris Day could be so crazy about the depressed drip of guy that Sinatra played. NOT the real life Sinatra, mind you, but the character he played in the film. It just didn't seem realistic, but I liked the musical scenes. And Frank livens up a bit in the end, which is good.
Love this, but always have to laugh at Frank pretending to play the piano. It bears no resemblance whatsoever to the actual piano music being played. LOL
Fantastic!! How I love to watch this video over and over again, the song just makes me feel like falling in love over and over again !? Thank you so much for sharing it...btw, there's another version of this song which was sung by Doris Day alone, equally wondeful to listen to. I hope somebody out there has a copy of the record and could upload it too.
I know what you mean. It is such a lovely scene and song. Never heard the version by Doris. I just found out recently that Sinatra did one on his own too. Just wasn't the same without Doris.
I'd just love to have the whole outfit. If i had it i wouldn't be scared to wear it out, its such a shame that fashion is but declining these days. it inspires me to make my own clothes using the fabulous patterns from the 40s, i wish we would learn how to at school x
I very much envy you, living in the 50s, i really do wish there was such thing as a time machine xxxx
I know what you mean. In the 50's I used to watch movies from the 30's and 40's and always felt like I was born too late. Although I have no complaints about missing the Great Depression and WW2 ;) But,oh how I loved that music. My parents were both music lovers so I grew up with some great tunes playing in my house.
Thank you ... now I want to watch the movie again ! My husband and I are watching her movies in order. Only up to #4 but we'll be to YAH pretty soon !!
Yeah. I sigh each time I hear this song. So beautiful. I just found out the song you sent to me: "It's a Great Feeling" is from the movie of the same name. I was looking up the song 'cause I wanted to find out who was doing back up vocals. I don't think it's the Pied Pipers. Do you know?
Yeah, and the last time I saw the movie, I wondered if she was related to anyone in the cast (or behind the scenes) but couldn't get any info on that. I got her name on IMDB. She's Kathleen Casey.
What a scene!!! It doesn't get much better than Frankie and Doris,(who can beat that harmony)! Thanks so much for sharing - I haven't seen this in quite a while.
The fifties were the last bastion of romance. a young girl once told me "There are girls nowadays, that sleep with multiple guys, but secretly yearn for some guy just to hold their hand, and bring them roses.and tell them he loves them" Thie warmth and feeling in this picture illustrates to me how romance is all but dead in our society. When the picture came out it was alive.
I love this song and have a soft spot for this movie. Sinatra plays a lovable loser who feels like life has been him up a little bit so he figures what the hey? In the end, it's all about how a guy sometimes needs a woman's love and belief to get him going. Works both ways, doesn't it folks? How about that boys and girls? We are more alike than we care to admit
What a beautiful comment! Funny you mention "...the curtains blowing in the afternoon breeze..." That was the part in this scene that I took note of and loved so much last time I saw this film a year ago.
To those who doubt Sinatra's singing ability: They just need to hear him singing this song! ... Plus the bonus of the lovely singing of Doris Day ... As Frank might have said "It don't come much better than this ... :)
She glows in this scene and Frank's voice was never better - their voices blend so beautifully at the end. This movie was a great remake of the 1938 movie Four Daughters. If you are going to remake a movie do it like this.
I just watched a few scenes from Four Daughters. They have a few of them up on youtube. Really enjoyed watching Garfield and Lane. Thanks for the tip.
I kind of know what you're saying. Although I love them both too, the last time I watched the scene with Sinatra as "Barney" singing "One for My Baby" to the crowd noise and glasses tinkling, got me thinking of the disregard many of us experience, not 'cause we don't have talent but 'cause we don't have fame. I'll never forget when Al Jarreau accepted his grammy (I think it was his first one) in the name of all the unacknowledged talents. I always loved that. He remembered the "Barneys".
I know what you're talking about. I searched for this song for years. Then I got hold of the movie and cut this piece out to put up here. So glad you found it.
Good way of putting it. I've always seen a depth in her that Hollywood seemed to try to cover in some of those late '50s fluff movies. Young Man with a Horn was another good role for her.
I think i fall in love with this brilliant couple!

All the best,
Annette

To those who doubt Sinatra's singing ability: They just need to hear him singing this song! ... Plus the bonus of the lovely singing of Doris Day ... As Frank might have said "It don't come much better than this ... :)

She glows in this scene and Frank's voice was never better - their voices blend so beautifully at the end. This movie was a great remake of the 1938 movie Four Daughters. If you are going to remake a movie do it like this.

I didn't know that about it being a remake of Four Daughters. Has me curious. I'll see if I can get hold of that move.
Glad you enjoyed it.

I'm glad you enjoyed them. This song is rarely heard and, in my opinion, is one of his loveliest. Of course, Doris had something to do with that.
God bless

Doris has such a scary intensity -- even when she's just standing there. Great.

Good way of putting it. I've always seen a depth in her that Hollywood seemed to try to cover in some of those late '50s fluff movies. Young Man with a Horn was another good role for her.
