Oh yes, there are lots of resources there, you are right, on that I will concede. The problem is there is no way to get to them, or at least not safely.
Canada is a very wealthy country, especially now in this recession. We still got hit significantly, but we have not ONCE bailed out a bank so far and are stable. Yet our military budget has recently doubled ONLY SINCE WW2! Nations like Portugal and Australia spend more on their military than we do, and we have more money to spend overall. WTF are you doing, Ottawa? Men and women are giving up their lives every day, so you can sure as shit give up a bit more for them than you are now.
@pspboy7 Wrong, Hillier listened to the troops. Harper is only riding on the coattails of what the Liberals started before they were ousted. Harper isn't doing anything new, he is just expanding on what the Libs were doing in the first place, after they ruined our military's crap in the first place.
Yep. How are we gonna pay for it? Amsel Rothchild said " Let me issue and control a nation`s money and I care not who makes it`s laws". I believe this is a bankster scheme. The nations of the world are being lead into monetary destruction. Bankers control the politicians and we send our young off to fight these insane and expensive wars. We`re playing into the hands of the banksters and military industrialists. Our enemy is not hiding in a cave, they`re sitting in Ottawa spending wrecklessly
Honestly if anyone doesnt agree with upgrading our militarty is either ignorant of history, or want's to rely on America. We need to upgrade our military period. We are not the US
@Algonquin81 Exactly. You wouldn't believe all the ignorance from Canadians that claim "no one will attack Canada, we don't need to spend on our Military". It annoys me to no end.
its actually cheaper over the longterm to maintain the army yearly. Sadly Canada updates its army every 10, 20 years. Those years allow equipment to decay, greatly increasing maintainance costs, and eventually needing expesive replacements. Armed forces is like a car, take good care of it over time, it will last many years. Leave to rust, and your gonna need to buy a new car.
God I wish Canadians would get this peacekeeping delusion out of there heads. Hasn't existed since the early 90s anyway. An army is an army. Not the girl guides.
@asre2001 Bullshit! Peace keeping was a tasking not an ovation. What you just said is a good example of how lefties take a tasking and turning into something that never really existed. I was in the PPCLI during the height of this Lib stuff and served in places like Cyprus but peace keeping was never the top operational priority of the Forces. combat was. At no time in history was there a peacekeeping army with only silly blue hat missions. Could go on but running characters.
@TheGuilbran78 Um, we are not peacekeeping, or at least we were not in Afghanistan. We were war fighting. Big difference. Peace keeping is a joke, really, unless the two sides have peace and want to keep it in the first place.
@TheGuilbran78 Ah, ok. Just remember, though, that while the Libs did gut our military, I know because my dad was a soldier in that era, they did start to fix it. Yes, they screwed up, I know that better than many as I lived part of it. But they did start to fix it. It started in 1998, in fact. 3 years before 9/11, 4 before we went to afghanistan, and 7 before the Conservatives came in. Harper didn't do it all himself, he started with the groundwork laid out for him.
@DaveMcColl84 Really, you come on like a coward asking me a question, just to start a flame war. Sorry for breaking the news to you, that you truely serve the corporation and are being sent for cannon fodder. I am not asking for you to kiss my ass, just don't expect me to kiss yours for you are not fighting any wars for me. Maybe you think other wise, yet you would be wrong.
To the idiots that just pm'd me. You are the yahoos that I was mentioning that join the military to shoot guns and wave your flag as stupid humans love to do. If you want to go and be cannon fodder for big corporations then fine, fuck off and go.
And I like to think that its not those two things that make me any less of a good person or a bad person, and I like to think I am a good person based on my own free will to be able to do so, just like I use that same free will to decide how I feel about religion, politics, and ethics.
Dude get off youtube, youre addicted and need help. Either that or go run for a MP position, I hear the NDP have a few 18 year old candidates. Maybe that way you could voice your opinion in parlament, not on youtube where nobody gives a shit.
I am only 18. Based on my minimal life experiance, this is what I currently believe in. Maybe in twenty years, I may not have the same perception of what I believe right now to be the great nation I'm happy to be apart of. Maybe in twenty years, I will still believe with the same certainty what I believe now. But make no mistake about it, present day: I am an Athiest and a Patriot, and I like to think that netheir of those things makes me any more intelligent than any other person...
Its like this. If your sense of right and wrong and your ability to think becomes that rgeatly construed based on whether your a non patriot or a patrio than your a sheep. Sheep are everywhere, and you can easily tell the difference between someone who genuinely believes with conviction in what they say, and someone who simply wants something to believe in and not nesecarilly care for what it is.
So just to clarify on it. I am an Athiest and I don't think Religion is for idiots, I pay my taxes, I am a patriot and I do not think Patriots are sheep. There is no sarcasm in that statement. Those are my beliefs. One could argue that not being a patriot makes you a sheep. Here's my opinion on that: There are patriots who are sheep, there are non patriots who are sheep. The same is true for the opposite statements.
Cont. any less determined to maintain your opinion despute what the truth was or was not? No, you will maintain the beliefs you have. If I am as you say, and thats what you believe thats not going to change. I don't think I'm a sheep, and I am an Athiest, and I am a patriot. I firmly believe that, and I'm going to maintain that regardless of what you say.
However, I'm not going to point out specifics of what I agree and disagree with, or try to prove to you that I care for anything beyond myself. What signifigance would it be for me to state my specific political, religous, ethical, etc. beliefs to someone whom I've only interacted with on a computer screen. If I am "Sheep" or I only care about myself, would argueing my case with you make you believe otherwise. If I weren't a "sheep", or if I did care for others beyond myself would you be...
Hmm. A lots happened since my last post. On the prior comment about me thinking I'm smarter than others, and also the comment about me being an Athiest. I am in fact an Athiest, I do not believe in any higher power or deity. I also don't have a problem with any sort of organized religion, I just simply do not believe in a deity.
But to clarify, the comment about my "stupid human ego" on my part was sarcasm. I don't agree with everything you say, I do agree with some things you've said.
I think people who use the term "Sheeple" only use it because its hard to attend english class with your head stuck in your ass. It tends not to make you very adept with words.
I guess that makes me a "Sheeple", or some other word that dosen't exist. I wave my Canadian flag, I have one in my room, and I was a Royal Canadian Army Cadet for a bulk of my youth, and am moving onto a career in the Canadian Forces.
Am I a sheeple now? I think I just love my country.
@canadathestrong Yes a sheeple, hah. If you know so much then you must know about the opium territory involved and the oil pipelines that needed safe guarding. I am all for protecting us here, yet you are naive if you think we need to be sending people over to Afghanistan for what ever reasons you fell for. Tell me why the USGS was there surveying for oil? Why is the Asian Developement Bank so interested aswell in the oil pipeline, which I may add was sold to them by the U.S.?
@PackOfPeterJackson There is no oil in Afghanistan, you dont know what your saying, and the way you talk negatively about proud Canadians is sickening, just shut your mouth.
@zazszdzfzgzhzjzkzlzx I said oil pipeline first off(billion dollar affair), and yes there is oil in afghanistan(1.8 billion barrels and more to be expected) and opium which you failed to mention, along with other resources that are trying to be tapped with an estimation topping 1 trillion dollars. YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE SAYING! Being proud for being born within a certain political border(canada) is like being proud for an accomplishment that someone else created. Go wave your flag sheep.
I'm proud to have been born in this political border. I also think I'm better than you. I hope I've fueled your internet rage. I can't wait to read your angry condescending response. lolololololololololololololololololololol. But I don't think i'm a sheep, and if you are determined to believe I am because I have a sense of patriotism. I didn't create this country, I'm content to be apart of what those who came before me made.
@TheGlockensphiel Your pride is misplaced, its like you are rooting for your favourite hockey team. Pride is saved for accomplishments. Did you accomplish Canada? NO. If you successfully made something or achieved a goal, then sure feel proud, better yet just feel happy for your accomplishments. This is where pride shows to have dual meaning, one positive being the already meantioned above and the other is negative, being that of which fuels the humans stupid ego.
Also, in case you don't like my previous answer, or will not accept it. I've provisioned an alternate answer for such an event: "I love being Canadian. Go fuck yourself". (PS, in case it wasn't clear. My first answer wasn't entirely serious. You can believe what you want, I'm just going to believe what I want too)
@TheGlockensphiel All Canada is, is a made up border(like any country) that has changed and always will change. I Love the world, so go fuck yourself back tough guy. There are news reports of what the USGS knew for years, so its not a belief yet a fact. "You can google afghan oil pipelines", "oil found in northern afghanistan", contact the USGS for proof. Also google "afghan opium wars". This is far from belief, yet even with facts you stay in denial.
@PackOfPeterJackson Its a shame people like you have to be born here, I know the kind of person you are, you think your smarter and better then everyone else, I can bet your an atheist, because you think religion is for idiots, and you even siad that you think taxpayers are morons, so does that mean you dont pay your taxes? because people who pay taxes to keep this counrty at the great state that its in are idiots? You say patriots are sheep, and whats your motive in life? I can bet its yourself
@zazszdzfzgzhzjzkzlzx The shame is your inability to debate the argument that I left before you. Just because I proved you were wrong about oil, does not mean you have to take a hissy fit. Just accept you were wrong about it.
Now about patriotism, I used to be patriotic, when I was 12 and influenecable. I do not feel smarter, yet I do feel wiser, no ego intended. I am agnostic, not athiest, get it right.
Where did I say taxpayers are morons?Quote please: )
Do you really have a choice to not pay your taxes, they kind of take it off of your work cheque? Boy did they owe my wife and I money on tax day, so you bet I did my taxes, they took too much off the cheques! lol.
My motives in life are to open the eyes of the sheep, and to live by example of what I believe to be the best for the earth and all of its inhabitants. So far you have pegged me way off from the mark, keep trying : )
@PackOfPeterJackson actually all that you wrote was basically just condensending code for exactly what I pegged you for, I mixed you up with another person on the tax thing.
And as for the Afghanistan oil pipeline, yes there is one, but the pipeline runs through the western side of Afghanistan, while all Canadian Forces operations are in Kandahar Province, which is in the southeast of Afghanistan, so there is no way Canadian Troops could be protecting the oil pipeline.
@zazszdzfzgzhzjzkzlzx Its called egging you on. Your pegging is about as right as your debating facts. The route is from Harat to KANDAHAR!!!! and then via Quetta and Multan in Pakistan, with a final destination in Fazilka near the border of india and pakistan. Get your facts straight before commenting, there is even an article from the globe and mail with headlines "Pipelines open new front in afghan wars".
I am just trying to show you what this war is truely over.
@zazszdzfzgzhzjzkzlzx Just to connect the dots for you, guess what pipeline will be used to help move the 1.6-1.8 billion barrels of oil found by the USGS and Afghan mineral and geological surveyers?
@PackOfPeterJackson look, America was attaked, and we hit back, its as simple as that, it doesnt matter where they are from, if they were from china, we would be in china, if they were from africa, we would be in africa, the fact that they were from an oil rich country is a coinsidence, but the oil is just used as a reason for anti-war protesters like you to protest the war, I swear, its like you guys wanna wait until the whole world invades to justify a war.
@zazszdzfzgzhzjzkzlzx No, you look. There are alot of unanswered questions, about america being attacked. Google "What really happened on 911" by Dr.Robert Bowman. Maybe you can answere the 8 questions on the page for me. Its not just oil, its iron, copper, gems, opium... resources worth over a trillion dollars that are being monopolized through war. So that is your problem, you think the whole world is out to get you. Tell your brainwashed dogma to the thousands of dead civillians.
@PackOfPeterJackson oh God, so you one of those insane conspiracy theorists, 911 WAS al-quida PERIOD. there is resources all ove the world, so going by your reasoning, every war was for resources! your insane! thats hyperpartisan right there.
@zazszdzfzgzhzjzkzlzx Just tell me you can't answere the questions, but nice try on discredit tactics. You are naive and blindly serve the corporate terrorists. If you are so sure of yourself then answere the questions on the page I gave you. You are insane with naivity. You make the perfect sodier, close minded and unwillingly to ask questions.
@zazszdzfzgzhzjzkzlzx I do belive you are the one that is hyperpartisan towards crooked corporate government. Oh by the way "your insane" is spelled "you're insane", if you are going to incorrectly insult someone atleast spell correctly. "they hit america so we hit them back" Just to add, since you seem to have a problem acknowledging civillian death numbers, they have been hit and the death toll far out ranks the civillian death toll from 911, so what is your pitiful excuse now?
@PackOfPeterJackson if your going to be a idiot and correct my spelling on the internet, then "answere" (from your pervious comment) is spelt answer, stop being a dumbass. Just so you know, the goal of the wars in the middle east is not to kill civilians, its to stop terrorism. I dont really know what your saying when you say " they have been hit and the death toll far out ranks the civillian death toll from 911, so what is your pitiful excuse now?" because we arent trying to kill civilians.
@zazszdzfzgzhzjzkzlzx Obviously my error is a typo(or I would not have spelled it right all the other times, lol) it's a little different from a spelling error, learn your grammar. Its like you make an excuse so you may stay blindfolded.
"because we are not trying to kill civilians," Tell me why the civilian deaths are head to head with the taliban and al qaeda death toll in Afghanistan.
The more you go on, the more I see you as a corporate cheerleader waving your pom poms.
@PackOfPeterJackson my error is also a typo, what, you dont think i know that "you're" has an apostrophe in it? THATS exactly what I meant by "I know the kind of person you are, you think your smarter and better then everyone else" your just proving my "wrong" pegging of you right. There is a high civilian casualty rate in this war, because our enemy hides behind them and purposely executes ops within densley populated areas, becuase they know we cant just shoot everybody.
@PackOfPeterJackson PS "Tell me why the civilian deaths are head to head with the taliban and al qaeda death toll in Afghanistan." < are you telling me that you ACTUALLY think that the amount of civlians killed by coalition troops in afghanistan, ia ANYWHERE NEAR the number of civvies killed by terrorists?!.....TERRORISTS?! ARE YOU SHITTING ME?!
@zazszdzfzgzhzjzkzlzx No, I am telling that the number of civilian deaths by coalition forces, outnumber the civilians killed on what you called "the first hit on America(911)". Google "civilian casualties caused by ISAF and US forces in the war in Afghanistan".
So now your only argument is that terrorists killed more, like that makes all the innocent deaths by Coalition forces ok. What is next, are you going to tell me they went for humanitarian reasons to protect the civilians?
@PackOfPeterJackson ok, stop jumping to conclusions, the civilians killed in this war is NOT okay by any standard, and the objective of the CF in Afghanistan is 6 major pirorities: Security, Basic Services, HUMANITARIAN AID, Border, National Institutions, and Reconciliation. < as said by the Canadian government, on there official website. and I would like to know what you think we should do in Afghanistan to minimize civ. casualties, because obv we are all too stupid to figure it out!
@zazszdzfzgzhzjzkzlzx What could help minimize civilian deaths you ask. Hmmm let me see, stop aerial bombing them. Don't fill apartment buildings full of holes hoping just to hit taliban, or al qaeda. Oh here is a good one, leave.
Tell me where was your humanitarian aid at ivory coast? Why so selective with whom you give aid to? Are you that naive to believe the corporations spend billions on war just to be humanitarian, lol. They only go if its lucrative for allied forces.
@PackOfPeterJackson okay, you know nothing about military training/tactics, nobody riddles buildings full of holes, Canada doesnt do bombing runs, and if we leave they will just gain the power to hit us, yet again, its almost like you want western civilization to be destroyed the way you talk. We werent able to give aid to ivory coast, because idiots like you protest miltary spending and growth, therfore, we didnt have the manpower and supplies, to run ops, in afgahnistan, libya, and ivory cont.
@zazszdzfzgzhzjzkzlzx You know nothing about what is being said by "soldiers against war". Stories included filling civilian buildings full of wholes and yes innocent civilians have died this way, SO GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT! Who said Canada was doing the bombing, we are talking about coalition forces all together here? So if I make a point about aerial bombing don't assume it points at Canada. Again, you are naive to believe the corporations you serve are going for humanitarian reasons.
@PackOfPeterJackson so if you want to be able to run ops all over the world why dont you stop protesting the military, they are the reason your free, your ungrateful. you know, its fine if you dont want to acknowledge their scarafice, but dont be an outright asshole and talk negatively of it.
@zazszdzfzgzhzjzkzlzx I want a change in western civiliazation, yet I do not want to destroy it. Just imagine if the corporate government was truely concerned for humanitarian reasons, you really made me laugh there. FYI, we are not free, yet life is more comfortable here admittedly. Yet we can have a comfortable life without monopolizing corporations fighting for resources. As for being "ungrateful",I disagree, why should I be greatful when a soldier(both sides) fights for the enemy of man.
@PackOfPeterJackson why should you be gratful for a man who layed his own life in harms way, in hopes that poeple like you might be able to go on one day, free and live without fear of being killed or enslaved, you know you are a really selfish person. as for governent, this is my stance on governemnt: NO government truly stands for the people or freedom, so do it better than others, but they all have their flaws, I know that if you want freedom, when push comes to shove,...cont.
@zazszdzfzgzhzjzkzlzx Every person you kill over there, is only making more enemies that I will have to deal with later. George Carlin, said it right, "fighting for peace is like fucking for virginity".
Life in Canada is not just peaches and sunshine, void of fear and enslavement? First off Canada is corrupt, just because that corruption is hidden, does not mean it does not exist. Second, military serves corporate government and as you said "no government truely stand for the people."
@PackOfPeterJackson only you and you alone can truly secure your own freedom, that is why I am strongly pro-gun, I am not a "cheerleader" for the conservatives, I just think they are the lesser of many evils, I am pro-gun becuase, gun control is what leads to slavery and oppression, eg. nazis, in a truly free nation the goverment fears the people, in a oppressed nation, the people fear the government I hope your atleast smart enough to realize that gun conntrol is bad for freedom.
@zazszdzfzgzhzjzkzlzx The real question is how bad will we let things become here before doing something about it. For instance, cost of living has doubled in terms of average income in the last 40 years. People are enslaved, just look at walmart minimum wage maximum effort jobs.
Well we agree here "gun control is bad for freedom." I would like one(or two) for self defence only. Unfortunately my wife is dead against them.
@PackOfPeterJackson atleats we FINALLY agree on something, good to see you got a little bit of sense in you ;), but can you atleast say that you appreciate the fact that mean and woman died to stop the spread of nazism, can you atleast appericate that? as for firearms, I have many family members that were once completely anti-gun until I just showed them the facts about guns and shooting, and how safe gun can really be when treated with care and caution, just show your wife what its all about.
@zazszdzfzgzhzjzkzlzx I feel bad that people had to be brainwashed by nazism and I feel bad for the people that were drafted and had no choice but to go and die. Yes the nazi's were a power that needed to be stopped. I mean no disrespect to human life when I speak. I appreciate that they were fighting for a good cause. Yet it was the corrupt leaders that still needed to be stopped, America, Russia, Britain, France, Italy...etc. all the leaders are corrupt and they made that war. cont...
@PackOfPeterJackson alright, well thats fine, but maybe the leaders are sort of corrupted because if they didnt play along with these bad people, they would have destroyed civilization, it kinda sucks, but history is built on lies.
@zazszdzfzgzhzjzkzlzx Well the one thing I know about people in power. They like power and dominance and they like to take their little toy green army men and make it a reality. Just so you know I am not angry and hate soldiers, I just feel they are being misplaced and are dying for corporate gain. If I didn't care about their lives aswell, then I would say nothing at all. On another note, have you heard of the article on the case called "sidewinder" by CSIS?
@zazszdzfzgzhzjzkzlzx cont... As for firearms, I would love a Smith and Wesson 9mm and that would be the gun(s) I would choose, if I could ever talk my wife into it.
@PackOfPeterJackson We give humanitarian aid to the ivory coast and many other places. Why dont we go in and fix their problems too? Because we are not allowed to. International law says so. We can do things in afghanistan because we had some sort of reason to go in, now we can stay and help them. There is nothing to gain financialy from afghanistan, no oil, nothing. Yes corporations make money from it, but that is a different problem. Occupy started dealing with that.
@enderthane You are a little late for the debate buddy, and come on really, you must of trolled hard to want to read my comment which is 30 comments ago. No oil? No money? I am sick of having to spell it out for people. The oil is in the trans afghan pipeline, the money is in the opium(morphine) and almost 1 trillion dollars in resourses which include precious gems, cobalt, copper, iron, lithium(oooh the phone companies would be interested in that one),
@PackOfPeterJackson Really? Ever been there? Ever seen the place? There is nothing there. Corporations will not be able to use anything there for the next 20 years at least. It is a hole in the planet that is wild and very dangerous. As for opium, there is no way to get it to market. It is controlled by insurgents and the ISAF is getting farmers to get rid of it. Until you have been to the place and seen the state of it, you are harping on things you know little about.
@enderthane True denial. Do I need to go to Afghanistan to see that resourses are there? No, the USGS was already there doing an assessment of there resourses. As for opium, it is already proven that alot of Canada and the US get opium from Afghanistan. Oh and where the hell do you think our medical society recieves opium from? Sorry to burst your bubble of denial, but Afghanistan is on the list. Quit acting like you are an expert on the issue because you obviously know very little truth.
@PackOfPeterJackson We get our opiates from Turkey, look it up. And I know a lot because I have seen the place. I have talked to the people there and members of the NGO non-profit aid groups there. The opium we get from there is the illegal kind, sold on the streets by criminals. That is not corporations, at least not the ones that operate legaly. Get your facts straight. Medical opium comes from Turkey, they have a regulated industry there. That is where we get it.
@enderthane PROOF! Hell its even in wikipedia. Look up Afghan-pipeline on it for proof and notice it runs from the Caspian sea right through Kandahar. Then take a trip over to the USGS site titled"projects in Afghanistan." It is in Back and white. Also check out "USGS release resource estimate for Afghanistan." Oh and also google "Troops defending opium fields". There is your PROOF. Oh did you ever think that just maybe pharmaceutical companies will shop around for the best price?
@PackOfPeterJackson The troops defending opium fields are defending them from the taliban. The policy was to eradicte the plants, but that would put the poor farmers out of money alltogether. The plan is to get the farmers to slowly change over their crops from opiates to food, as they are able to clear the fields after harvest. The drugs are going to illegal trade or ISAF buys them to burn them. Not a great solution, but it keeps the farmers from starving.
@enderthane Yes I know what the news reports said about the troops. Funny how opium growth has increased (although decreased a little since 2007)yet the troops were there to eradicate or "get them to change over to other crop,". Afghanistan supplies 90% of the worlds opium.
@PackOfPeterJackson Yes, but they dont produce the medical stuff, they produce the illegal stuff. The stuff drug dealers sell. There is no system in afghanistan to produce and sell it to the medical system. That is one of the topics under debate. Turkey does that, produces it for medical, but not afghanistan. Their is used to trafic in the black markets and such.
@enderthane "Yes, but they dont produce the medical stuff, they produce the illegal stuff. The stuff drug dealers sell. There is no system in afghanistan to produce and sell it to the medical system. That is one of the topics under debate. Turkey does that" Yes I know, but what is to stop them from shopping around?
@PackOfPeterJackson As for the changing over, like I said it is complicated. You cant just go in and burn it, the farmers will starve. Many places the govt and ISAF cant go to because it is too strongly held by the insurgents. Getting the crops changed takes time. You cant just tell the farmers to do it, thay have to decide to do it themselves. ISAF does not make them do it, they convince them through education and incentives. They have to want to do it, we dont make them do it.
@enderthane What was the civilian death toll again? So let me get this straight, the NATO forces are there to just help people and the people do not mind being shot in the cross fire, The USGS found resources that big corporations are now eyeing up and have been for decades, but they can`t exploit and monopolize thoughs resources until the Taliban are dead and gone? Come on, we both know the only good people in this are the innocent civilians that are caught in the middle.
@PackOfPeterJackson Well, if you think so... Do you know what the Taliban did to those innocent people before we got there? No music, no reading, no sports. Women got no medical attention and children were abused in many ways. The civil liberties of those innocent people did not exist. They had no choice but to be ruled over by militant tyrants who raped and murdered at whim. Now they have a chance to build their country without the fear of oppresion.
@enderthane "Do you know what the Taliban did to those innocent people before we got there? No music, no reading, no sports. Women got no medical attention and children were abused in many ways." If you look around we can find abuse everywhere, including here. Why target just afghanistan for abuse? We have crooked tyrants here raping people, so where is the army to stop them?
Sure some good can come from Aid I will agree to that.
@PackOfPeterJackson In war, people die. It sucks and we soldiers dont like it when the people we are trying to protect die, especialy if we are the cause. A battlefield is a confusing place, and the insurgents use innocent people as shields, often without ISAF knowing. It sucks, it does, but it happens in every war. At least when it does happen it is seriously investigated and ammends are made if they can be, as well as charges laid if they must be.
@PackOfPeterJackson Does that make it all ok? No. But the place is better off right now, and if the Taliban would stop fighting and put down their weapons and try to help build a society the needless death would stop. And yes, there are talks with groups of taliban, it has been in the news. If they walk away from fighting and stop killing their own people, they could participate in rebuilding the country with their fellow Afghanis.
@PackOfPeterJackson Also remember, no matter how noble the cause, there are always those who will exploit it. The corps are not the driving force, they are the hangers on, the ones who are going to try to profit. If the Afghan govt is helped to be strong and they manage themselves right, they will be able to make the corps work for them. As long as people like you are vocal about it, it will remind the rest of us to be vigilant and not let them exploit good people.
@PackOfPeterJackson Believe me when I say I admire you for what you are trying to do here. The world needs folks like you to keep our eyes open to these things so we do not let them happen. Just remember, there is good being done in Afghanistan for the people, it is not all bad. Dont let the bad things blind you to the good being done, and dont let us believe it is all sunshine and rainbows, either. Thank you for being critical, but please try to see the good things, too.
@PackOfPeterJackson No problem, dude. I prefer to make friends and have good debates, hate a flame war. I really dont expect you to agree with me, not 100% anyways. I just try to let other folks see a different side of things. I may come off as harsh or arogant or as a know it all, but I dont mean to. Text does not convey tone of voice or true meaning, and it is a really crappy meathod of communication some times.
@enderthane I agree, we will never learn another persons perspective, if we are too busy insulting each other. It is good that we learned from each other aswell. I would also like to add, I have nothing against the soldiers that went over. I believe many of them have good intentions.
@PackOfPeterJackson Been good debating with you. I have a new perspective and a few new ideas rolling around in my mind. Hope I can put them to good use in the future. Thank you, PackOfPeterJackson, for helping me find some new ideas and ways of thinking. All the best to you friend. Good journey.
@PackOfPeterJackson The pipeline is a proposed thing, it does not exist yet. They want to build it, but good luck defending it while it is being built. Not gonna happen any time soon. The insurgency will destroy it every chance they get. It will cost billions to get that place to the stage where they can build the thing, and then the Afghan govt will get a cut of the revenue. Good deal for them in the end, really.
@PackOfPeterJackson yes, maybe signed, but implement? Not possible. Like I said, it is not safe enough to do it. Theory and reality are very different there. You cant even dig a ditch or build a house without having someone try to kill you. A massive pipeline? Cant happen. The benefits of it though. The afghan govt will make sure they get a good cut, and the jobs building it will create will make the country able to build an effective economy. Remember, they have no appreciable economy.
@PackOfPeterJackson Ever think that the USGS projects will bring employment and development to the country? They have very little infrastructure, almost no decent economy, and no prospects of developing one without outside help. The Taliban kept the place at a level almost equal to the middle ages developmentwise and the people are dirt poor. Heck, even dirt has more money than some of those poor saps. Economic development would help Afghanistan and the people.
@enderthane Did you ever think that the resources in Afghanistan are just there to be exploited and monopolized? I live in Canada, and the only thing the oil sands have helped are the politicians and corporations. The politicians talk big, but when it comes down to it, any profit made will be squandered to CEO`s and Administration, like usual.
@PackOfPeterJackson I am also Canadian, and the situation there is different. There is no infrastructure there. The corps will build the infrastructure, hiring afghans to do it and maintain it, giving them jobs. This will kickstart the economy and infuse it with cash and get it moving. Afghanistan would probably take 40-60 years to do it all themselves, but this will get them going. It will also spawn many other positive projects, and the stuff built by corps will be useful for other things.
@PackOfPeterJackson I understand you think that the war is waged for corporate gain, and maybe it is in some ways. The other side of the coin is this, the people of Afghanistan are benefitting here, too. Now they have jobs, they are geting the country built up economicaly and socialy. They have more freedoms and have fewer oppressors. The international community is trying to help them out, but they are not dictating how the Afghans are going to do it. Cont...
@PackOfPeterJackson Oh yes, there are lots of resources there, you are right, on that I will concede. The problem is there is no way to get to them, or at least not safely.
@PackOfPeterJackson As to trolling, give me a break. I go and read comments as far back as I can stomach. I like to see what is being discussed and put what I think may help give a different view to the points. You are behaving like a belligerent know-it-all, which I am sure you are not. Lighten up. Do you really think everyone but you knows nothing about the bad things in the world? We all have perspectives based on experiences. You are not the only guy who knows stuff.
@enderthane If you trolled back 30 comments, then yes you just trolled. I know you can`t admit you are wrong, but that is because your ego is involved. I guess the USGS was just there for fun and games. I already proved you wrong, just admit it. Oh and for someone that claims I am a know it all, sure likes to act like they know it all.
@PackOfPeterJackson Trolling? Or reading and learning. You can say I am wrong all you like, does not make you right. What makes you right? Is this an arbitrary motion on your part that you think you are right and anyone who says differently is wrong? Prove what you say with facts, published facts, before you say you are absolutely right. Until you do you are just stating an opinion like the rest of us. You did not prove anything, just spewed an acronym.
@enderthane I wonder if the tax payers pay for the USGS? Oh and Don`t tell me to get my facts straight when you have no clue on the issue. In your own words you stated, "There is nothing to gain financialy from afghanistan, no oil, nothing." So go and get your facts straight.
@zazszdzfzgzhzjzkzlzx One more point to add, I was also telling you that just as many civilians have died, as terrorists. I am not suprised you twisted my comment with your negative and biased perception.
@canadathestrong I take it you were looking in the mirror when you said that. I love it when sheeple tell me I am the one that is blind. Go and wave your flag in blind pride. Typical think in a box human.
@ohreallyandwhyisthat I'm flabbergastted that The Mother Corp. did as well. The CBC (Canadians Boring Canadians) has been so far out of touch with what Canadians think and feel for so long, I believe this slipped through and was, I am positive, the subject of many meetings, with hand wringing leftist CBC apparatchicks beside themselves that it aired in the first place. It is time to PRIVATIZE THE CBC!!!
You should suit up instead of putting a laugh track behind your coverage. The more we fork over in funds for this 'war', the more the Taliban is laughing, because it costs them nothing to be there. They'll fight forever if necessary.
@2blackwolfeyes ya I dont think they're laughing when those fund just got their leader and life-long idol, osama, shot in the face. If they were "laughing" they wouldnt be using the cowardly tactics they use, like using children as bombs.
thank god the conservatives are still in power. when it was liberal the canadian forces were cut back so much on technology and weapons and no one even knew we had a military. Since conservatives we have some of the best trained soldiers in the world. go conservatives!
@norcofoxrider Just remember the Conservatives aren't planning the strategies or actually fighting in Afghanistan, otherwise they might be less pushing for armed combat.
I agree with this. Either back the military or don't...but don't pretend to back them then when they're getting shot at say "nahh, you guys are fine" all the way from Ottawa.
Rick... well said... but we "should NOT" .. i say again... SHOULD NOT... ever again do peacekeeping, ... remember Bosnia.... Peace Makiing is where its at.
pssssssssssst btw we should have never let Gen R.H retire.. i bet we all would have had gold cards..

Our enemy is not hiding in a cave, they`re sitting in Ottawa spending wrecklessly

its actually cheaper over the longterm to maintain the army yearly.

TheGuilbran78 8 months ago 28

TheGuilbran78 2 days ago
@TheGuilbran78 Ah, ok. Just remember, though, that while the Libs did gut our military, I know because my dad was a soldier in that era, they did start to fix it. Yes, they screwed up, I know that better than many as I lived part of it. But they did start to fix it. It started in 1998, in fact. 3 years before 9/11, 4 before we went to afghanistan, and 7 before the Conservatives came in. Harper didn't do it all himself, he started with the groundwork laid out for him.

TheGlockensphiel 9 months ago
Its like this. If your sense of right and wrong and your ability to think becomes that rgeatly construed based on whether your a non patriot or a patrio than your a sheep. Sheep are everywhere, and you can easily tell the difference between someone who genuinely believes with conviction in what they say, and someone who simply wants something to believe in and not nesecarilly care for what it is.
TheGlockensphiel 9 months ago
So just to clarify on it. I am an Athiest and I don't think Religion is for idiots, I pay my taxes, I am a patriot and I do not think Patriots are sheep. There is no sarcasm in that statement. Those are my beliefs. One could argue that not being a patriot makes you a sheep. Here's my opinion on that: There are patriots who are sheep, there are non patriots who are sheep. The same is true for the opposite statements.
TheGlockensphiel 9 months ago
Cont. any less determined to maintain your opinion despute what the truth was or was not? No, you will maintain the beliefs you have. If I am as you say, and thats what you believe thats not going to change. I don't think I'm a sheep, and I am an Athiest, and I am a patriot. I firmly believe that, and I'm going to maintain that regardless of what you say.
TheGlockensphiel 9 months ago
However, I'm not going to point out specifics of what I agree and disagree with, or try to prove to you that I care for anything beyond myself. What signifigance would it be for me to state my specific political, religous, ethical, etc. beliefs to someone whom I've only interacted with on a computer screen. If I am "Sheep" or I only care about myself, would argueing my case with you make you believe otherwise. If I weren't a "sheep", or if I did care for others beyond myself would you be...
TheGlockensphiel 9 months ago
TheGlockensphiel 9 months ago
I think people who use the term "Sheeple" only use it because its hard to attend english class with your head stuck in your ass. It tends not to make you very adept with words.
I guess that makes me a "Sheeple", or some other word that dosen't exist. I wave my Canadian flag, I have one in my room, and I was a Royal Canadian Army Cadet for a bulk of my youth, and am moving onto a career in the Canadian Forces.
Am I a sheeple now? I think I just love my country.
TheGlockensphiel 9 months ago
Yes we will be needing more stuff to fight more of Israel's wars.
MendingMedia 9 months ago
@canadathestrong Yes a sheeple, hah. If you know so much then you must know about the opium territory involved and the oil pipelines that needed safe guarding. I am all for protecting us here, yet you are naive if you think we need to be sending people over to Afghanistan for what ever reasons you fell for. Tell me why the USGS was there surveying for oil? Why is the Asian Developement Bank so interested aswell in the oil pipeline, which I may add was sold to them by the U.S.?
PackOfPeterJackson 10 months ago
@PackOfPeterJackson There is no oil in Afghanistan, you dont know what your saying, and the way you talk negatively about proud Canadians is sickening, just shut your mouth.
zazszdzfzgzhzjzkzlzx 9 months ago
@zazszdzfzgzhzjzkzlzx I said oil pipeline first off(billion dollar affair), and yes there is oil in afghanistan(1.8 billion barrels and more to be expected) and opium which you failed to mention, along with other resources that are trying to be tapped with an estimation topping 1 trillion dollars. YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE SAYING! Being proud for being born within a certain political border(canada) is like being proud for an accomplishment that someone else created. Go wave your flag sheep.
PackOfPeterJackson 9 months ago
@PackOfPeterJackson
TheGlockensphiel 9 months ago
@TheGlockensphiel Your pride is misplaced, its like you are rooting for your favourite hockey team. Pride is saved for accomplishments. Did you accomplish Canada? NO. If you successfully made something or achieved a goal, then sure feel proud, better yet just feel happy for your accomplishments. This is where pride shows to have dual meaning, one positive being the already meantioned above and the other is negative, being that of which fuels the humans stupid ego.

This is far from belief, yet even with facts you stay in denial.

zazszdzfzgzhzjzkzlzx 9 months ago
@zazszdzfzgzhzjzkzlzx The shame is your inability to debate the argument that I left before you. Just because I proved you were wrong about oil, does not mean you have to take a hissy fit. Just accept you were wrong about it.

PackOfPeterJackson 9 months ago
@PackOfPeterJackson actually all that you wrote was basically just condensending code for exactly what I pegged you for, I mixed you up with another person on the tax thing.
And as for the Afghanistan oil pipeline, yes there is one, but the pipeline runs through the western side of Afghanistan, while all Canadian Forces operations are in Kandahar Province, which is in the southeast of Afghanistan, so there is no way Canadian Troops could be protecting the oil pipeline.
zazszdzfzgzhzjzkzlzx 9 months ago
@zazszdzfzgzhzjzkzlzx Its called egging you on. Your pegging is about as right as your debating facts. The route is from Harat to KANDAHAR!!!! and then via Quetta and Multan in Pakistan, with a final destination in Fazilka near the border of india and pakistan. Get your facts straight before commenting, there is even an article from the globe and mail with headlines "Pipelines open new front in afghan wars".
I am just trying to show you what this war is truely over.
PackOfPeterJackson 9 months ago
@zazszdzfzgzhzjzkzlzx Just to connect the dots for you, guess what pipeline will be used to help move the 1.6-1.8 billion barrels of oil found by the USGS and Afghan mineral and geological surveyers?
PackOfPeterJackson 9 months ago
@PackOfPeterJackson look, America was attaked, and we hit back, its as simple as that, it doesnt matter where they are from, if they were from china, we would be in china, if they were from africa, we would be in africa, the fact that they were from an oil rich country is a coinsidence, but the oil is just used as a reason for anti-war protesters like you to protest the war, I swear, its like you guys wanna wait until the whole world invades to justify a war.
zazszdzfzgzhzjzkzlzx 9 months ago
@zazszdzfzgzhzjzkzlzx No, you look. There are alot of unanswered questions, about america being attacked. Google "What really happened on 911" by Dr.Robert Bowman. Maybe you can answere the 8 questions on the page for me. Its not just oil, its iron, copper, gems, opium... resources worth over a trillion dollars that are being monopolized through war. So that is your problem, you think the whole world is out to get you. Tell your brainwashed dogma to the thousands of dead civillians.
PackOfPeterJackson 9 months ago
@PackOfPeterJackson oh God, so you one of those insane conspiracy theorists, 911 WAS al-quida PERIOD. there is resources all ove the world, so going by your reasoning, every war was for resources! your insane! thats hyperpartisan right there.

PackOfPeterJackson 9 months ago
@PackOfPeterJackson if your going to be a idiot and correct my spelling on the internet, then "answere" (from your pervious comment) is spelt answer, stop being a dumbass. Just so you know, the goal of the wars in the middle east is not to kill civilians, its to stop terrorism. I dont really know what your saying when you say " they have been hit and the death toll far out ranks the civillian death toll from 911, so what is your pitiful excuse now?" because we arent trying to kill civilians.
zazszdzfzgzhzjzkzlzx 9 months ago
@zazszdzfzgzhzjzkzlzx Obviously my error is a typo(or I would not have spelled it right all the other times, lol) it's a little different from a spelling error, learn your grammar. Its like you make an excuse so you may stay blindfolded.
"because we are not trying to kill civilians," Tell me why the civilian deaths are head to head with the taliban and al qaeda death toll in Afghanistan.
The more you go on, the more I see you as a corporate cheerleader waving your pom poms.
PackOfPeterJackson 9 months ago
@PackOfPeterJackson my error is also a typo, what, you dont think i know that "you're" has an apostrophe in it? THATS exactly what I meant by "I know the kind of person you are, you think your smarter and better then everyone else" your just proving my "wrong" pegging of you right. There is a high civilian casualty rate in this war, because our enemy hides behind them and purposely executes ops within densley populated areas, becuase they know we cant just shoot everybody.
zazszdzfzgzhzjzkzlzx 9 months ago
@PackOfPeterJackson PS "Tell me why the civilian deaths are head to head with the taliban and al qaeda death toll in Afghanistan." < are you telling me that you ACTUALLY think that the amount of civlians killed by coalition troops in afghanistan, ia ANYWHERE NEAR the number of civvies killed by terrorists?!.....TERRORISTS?! ARE YOU SHITTING ME?!
zazszdzfzgzhzjzkzlzx 9 months ago
@zazszdzfzgzhzjzkzlzx No, I am telling that the number of civilian deaths by coalition forces, outnumber the civilians killed on what you called "the first hit on America(911)". Google "civilian casualties caused by ISAF and US forces in the war in Afghanistan".
So now your only argument is that terrorists killed more, like that makes all the innocent deaths by Coalition forces ok. What is next, are you going to tell me they went for humanitarian reasons to protect the civilians?
PackOfPeterJackson 9 months ago
@PackOfPeterJackson ok, stop jumping to conclusions, the civilians killed in this war is NOT okay by any standard, and the objective of the CF in Afghanistan is 6 major pirorities: Security, Basic Services, HUMANITARIAN AID, Border, National Institutions, and Reconciliation. < as said by the Canadian government, on there official website. and I would like to know what you think we should do in Afghanistan to minimize civ. casualties, because obv we are all too stupid to figure it out!
zazszdzfzgzhzjzkzlzx 9 months ago
@zazszdzfzgzhzjzkzlzx What could help minimize civilian deaths you ask. Hmmm let me see, stop aerial bombing them. Don't fill apartment buildings full of holes hoping just to hit taliban, or al qaeda. Oh here is a good one, leave.
Tell me where was your humanitarian aid at ivory coast? Why so selective with whom you give aid to? Are you that naive to believe the corporations spend billions on war just to be humanitarian, lol. They only go if its lucrative for allied forces.
PackOfPeterJackson 9 months ago
@PackOfPeterJackson okay, you know nothing about military training/tactics, nobody riddles buildings full of holes, Canada doesnt do bombing runs, and if we leave they will just gain the power to hit us, yet again, its almost like you want western civilization to be destroyed the way you talk. We werent able to give aid to ivory coast, because idiots like you protest miltary spending and growth, therfore, we didnt have the manpower and supplies, to run ops, in afgahnistan, libya, and ivory cont.
zazszdzfzgzhzjzkzlzx 9 months ago
@zazszdzfzgzhzjzkzlzx You know nothing about what is being said by "soldiers against war". Stories included filling civilian buildings full of wholes and yes innocent civilians have died this way, SO GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT! Who said Canada was doing the bombing, we are talking about coalition forces all together here? So if I make a point about aerial bombing don't assume it points at Canada. Again, you are naive to believe the corporations you serve are going for humanitarian reasons.
PackOfPeterJackson 9 months ago
@PackOfPeterJackson so if you want to be able to run ops all over the world why dont you stop protesting the military, they are the reason your free, your ungrateful. you know, its fine if you dont want to acknowledge their scarafice, but dont be an outright asshole and talk negatively of it.
zazszdzfzgzhzjzkzlzx 9 months ago
@zazszdzfzgzhzjzkzlzx I want a change in western civiliazation, yet I do not want to destroy it. Just imagine if the corporate government was truely concerned for humanitarian reasons, you really made me laugh there. FYI, we are not free, yet life is more comfortable here admittedly. Yet we can have a comfortable life without monopolizing corporations fighting for resources. As for being "ungrateful",I disagree, why should I be greatful when a soldier(both sides) fights for the enemy of man.
PackOfPeterJackson 9 months ago
@PackOfPeterJackson why should you be gratful for a man who layed his own life in harms way, in hopes that poeple like you might be able to go on one day, free and live without fear of being killed or enslaved, you know you are a really selfish person. as for governent, this is my stance on governemnt: NO government truly stands for the people or freedom, so do it better than others, but they all have their flaws, I know that if you want freedom, when push comes to shove,...cont.
zazszdzfzgzhzjzkzlzx 9 months ago
@zazszdzfzgzhzjzkzlzx Every person you kill over there, is only making more enemies that I will have to deal with later. George Carlin, said it right, "fighting for peace is like fucking for virginity".
Life in Canada is not just peaches and sunshine, void of fear and enslavement? First off Canada is corrupt, just because that corruption is hidden, does not mean it does not exist. Second, military serves corporate government and as you said "no government truely stand for the people."
PackOfPeterJackson 9 months ago
@PackOfPeterJackson only you and you alone can truly secure your own freedom, that is why I am strongly pro-gun, I am not a "cheerleader" for the conservatives, I just think they are the lesser of many evils, I am pro-gun becuase, gun control is what leads to slavery and oppression, eg. nazis, in a truly free nation the goverment fears the people, in a oppressed nation, the people fear the government I hope your atleast smart enough to realize that gun conntrol is bad for freedom.
zazszdzfzgzhzjzkzlzx 9 months ago
@zazszdzfzgzhzjzkzlzx The real question is how bad will we let things become here before doing something about it. For instance, cost of living has doubled in terms of average income in the last 40 years. People are enslaved, just look at walmart minimum wage maximum effort jobs.
Well we agree here "gun control is bad for freedom." I would like one(or two) for self defence only. Unfortunately my wife is dead against them.

@PackOfPeterJackson atleats we FINALLY agree on something, good to see you got a little bit of sense in you ;), but can you atleast say that you appreciate the fact that mean and woman died to stop the spread of nazism, can you atleast appericate that? as for firearms, I have many family members that were once completely anti-gun until I just showed them the facts about guns and shooting, and how safe gun can really be when treated with care and caution, just show your wife what its all about.
zazszdzfzgzhzjzkzlzx 9 months ago
@zazszdzfzgzhzjzkzlzx I feel bad that people had to be brainwashed by nazism and I feel bad for the people that were drafted and had no choice but to go and die. Yes the nazi's were a power that needed to be stopped. I mean no disrespect to human life when I speak. I appreciate that they were fighting for a good cause. Yet it was the corrupt leaders that still needed to be stopped, America, Russia, Britain, France, Italy...etc. all the leaders are corrupt and they made that war. cont...
PackOfPeterJackson 9 months ago
@PackOfPeterJackson alright, well thats fine, but maybe the leaders are sort of corrupted because if they didnt play along with these bad people, they would have destroyed civilization, it kinda sucks, but history is built on lies.
zazszdzfzgzhzjzkzlzx 9 months ago
@zazszdzfzgzhzjzkzlzx Well the one thing I know about people in power. They like power and dominance and they like to take their little toy green army men and make it a reality. Just so you know I am not angry and hate soldiers, I just feel they are being misplaced and are dying for corporate gain. If I didn't care about their lives aswell, then I would say nothing at all. On another note, have you heard of the article on the case called "sidewinder" by CSIS?
PackOfPeterJackson 9 months ago
@zazszdzfzgzhzjzkzlzx cont... As for firearms, I would love a Smith and Wesson 9mm and that would be the gun(s) I would choose, if I could ever talk my wife into it.
PackOfPeterJackson 9 months ago
@PackOfPeterJackson We give humanitarian aid to the ivory coast and many other places. Why dont we go in and fix their problems too? Because we are not allowed to. International law says so. We can do things in afghanistan because we had some sort of reason to go in, now we can stay and help them. There is nothing to gain financialy from afghanistan, no oil, nothing. Yes corporations make money from it, but that is a different problem. Occupy started dealing with that.
enderthane 2 days ago
@enderthane You are a little late for the debate buddy, and come on really, you must of trolled hard to want to read my comment which is 30 comments ago. No oil? No money? I am sick of having to spell it out for people. The oil is in the trans afghan pipeline, the money is in the opium(morphine) and almost 1 trillion dollars in resourses which include precious gems, cobalt, copper, iron, lithium(oooh the phone companies would be interested in that one),
PackOfPeterJackson 2 days ago
@PackOfPeterJackson Really? Ever been there? Ever seen the place? There is nothing there. Corporations will not be able to use anything there for the next 20 years at least. It is a hole in the planet that is wild and very dangerous. As for opium, there is no way to get it to market. It is controlled by insurgents and the ISAF is getting farmers to get rid of it. Until you have been to the place and seen the state of it, you are harping on things you know little about.
enderthane 2 days ago
@enderthane True denial. Do I need to go to Afghanistan to see that resourses are there? No, the USGS was already there doing an assessment of there resourses. As for opium, it is already proven that alot of Canada and the US get opium from Afghanistan. Oh and where the hell do you think our medical society recieves opium from? Sorry to burst your bubble of denial, but Afghanistan is on the list. Quit acting like you are an expert on the issue because you obviously know very little truth.
PackOfPeterJackson 2 days ago
@PackOfPeterJackson We get our opiates from Turkey, look it up. And I know a lot because I have seen the place. I have talked to the people there and members of the NGO non-profit aid groups there. The opium we get from there is the illegal kind, sold on the streets by criminals. That is not corporations, at least not the ones that operate legaly. Get your facts straight. Medical opium comes from Turkey, they have a regulated industry there. That is where we get it.
enderthane 1 day ago
@enderthane PROOF! Hell its even in wikipedia. Look up Afghan-pipeline on it for proof and notice it runs from the Caspian sea right through Kandahar. Then take a trip over to the USGS site titled"projects in Afghanistan." It is in Back and white. Also check out "USGS release resource estimate for Afghanistan." Oh and also google "Troops defending opium fields". There is your PROOF. Oh did you ever think that just maybe pharmaceutical companies will shop around for the best price?
PackOfPeterJackson 1 day ago
@PackOfPeterJackson The troops defending opium fields are defending them from the taliban. The policy was to eradicte the plants, but that would put the poor farmers out of money alltogether. The plan is to get the farmers to slowly change over their crops from opiates to food, as they are able to clear the fields after harvest. The drugs are going to illegal trade or ISAF buys them to burn them. Not a great solution, but it keeps the farmers from starving.
enderthane 1 day ago
@enderthane Yes I know what the news reports said about the troops. Funny how opium growth has increased (although decreased a little since 2007)yet the troops were there to eradicate or "get them to change over to other crop,". Afghanistan supplies 90% of the worlds opium.
PackOfPeterJackson 1 day ago
@PackOfPeterJackson Yes, but they dont produce the medical stuff, they produce the illegal stuff. The stuff drug dealers sell. There is no system in afghanistan to produce and sell it to the medical system. That is one of the topics under debate. Turkey does that, produces it for medical, but not afghanistan. Their is used to trafic in the black markets and such.

PackOfPeterJackson 16 hours ago
@PackOfPeterJackson As for the changing over, like I said it is complicated. You cant just go in and burn it, the farmers will starve. Many places the govt and ISAF cant go to because it is too strongly held by the insurgents. Getting the crops changed takes time. You cant just tell the farmers to do it, thay have to decide to do it themselves. ISAF does not make them do it, they convince them through education and incentives. They have to want to do it, we dont make them do it.
enderthane 18 hours ago
@enderthane What was the civilian death toll again? So let me get this straight, the NATO forces are there to just help people and the people do not mind being shot in the cross fire, The USGS found resources that big corporations are now eyeing up and have been for decades, but they can`t exploit and monopolize thoughs resources until the Taliban are dead and gone? Come on, we both know the only good people in this are the innocent civilians that are caught in the middle.
PackOfPeterJackson 16 hours ago

PackOfPeterJackson 15 hours ago
@PackOfPeterJackson In war, people die. It sucks and we soldiers dont like it when the people we are trying to protect die, especialy if we are the cause. A battlefield is a confusing place, and the insurgents use innocent people as shields, often without ISAF knowing. It sucks, it does, but it happens in every war. At least when it does happen it is seriously investigated and ammends are made if they can be, as well as charges laid if they must be.
enderthane 16 hours ago
@PackOfPeterJackson Does that make it all ok? No. But the place is better off right now, and if the Taliban would stop fighting and put down their weapons and try to help build a society the needless death would stop. And yes, there are talks with groups of taliban, it has been in the news. If they walk away from fighting and stop killing their own people, they could participate in rebuilding the country with their fellow Afghanis.
enderthane 16 hours ago
@PackOfPeterJackson Also remember, no matter how noble the cause, there are always those who will exploit it. The corps are not the driving force, they are the hangers on, the ones who are going to try to profit. If the Afghan govt is helped to be strong and they manage themselves right, they will be able to make the corps work for them. As long as people like you are vocal about it, it will remind the rest of us to be vigilant and not let them exploit good people.
enderthane 16 hours ago
@PackOfPeterJackson Believe me when I say I admire you for what you are trying to do here. The world needs folks like you to keep our eyes open to these things so we do not let them happen. Just remember, there is good being done in Afghanistan for the people, it is not all bad. Dont let the bad things blind you to the good being done, and dont let us believe it is all sunshine and rainbows, either. Thank you for being critical, but please try to see the good things, too.
enderthane 16 hours ago
@enderthane Thankyou for having a civil response, I appreciate that.
PackOfPeterJackson 15 hours ago
@PackOfPeterJackson No problem, dude. I prefer to make friends and have good debates, hate a flame war. I really dont expect you to agree with me, not 100% anyways. I just try to let other folks see a different side of things. I may come off as harsh or arogant or as a know it all, but I dont mean to. Text does not convey tone of voice or true meaning, and it is a really crappy meathod of communication some times.
enderthane 15 hours ago
@enderthane I agree, we will never learn another persons perspective, if we are too busy insulting each other. It is good that we learned from each other aswell. I would also like to add, I have nothing against the soldiers that went over. I believe many of them have good intentions.
Take good care of yourself.
PackOfPeterJackson 14 hours ago
@PackOfPeterJackson Been good debating with you. I have a new perspective and a few new ideas rolling around in my mind. Hope I can put them to good use in the future. Thank you, PackOfPeterJackson, for helping me find some new ideas and ways of thinking. All the best to you friend. Good journey.
enderthane 15 hours ago
@PackOfPeterJackson The pipeline is a proposed thing, it does not exist yet. They want to build it, but good luck defending it while it is being built. Not gonna happen any time soon. The insurgency will destroy it every chance they get. It will cost billions to get that place to the stage where they can build the thing, and then the Afghan govt will get a cut of the revenue. Good deal for them in the end, really.
enderthane 1 day ago
@enderthane "pipline" The agreement was already signed. Also check out, "Iran, Afghan presidents arrive: Of peace talks, pipelines and regional solutions."
PackOfPeterJackson 1 day ago
@PackOfPeterJackson yes, maybe signed, but implement? Not possible. Like I said, it is not safe enough to do it. Theory and reality are very different there. You cant even dig a ditch or build a house without having someone try to kill you. A massive pipeline? Cant happen. The benefits of it though. The afghan govt will make sure they get a good cut, and the jobs building it will create will make the country able to build an effective economy. Remember, they have no appreciable economy.
enderthane 18 hours ago
@PackOfPeterJackson Ever think that the USGS projects will bring employment and development to the country? They have very little infrastructure, almost no decent economy, and no prospects of developing one without outside help. The Taliban kept the place at a level almost equal to the middle ages developmentwise and the people are dirt poor. Heck, even dirt has more money than some of those poor saps. Economic development would help Afghanistan and the people.
enderthane 1 day ago
@enderthane Did you ever think that the resources in Afghanistan are just there to be exploited and monopolized? I live in Canada, and the only thing the oil sands have helped are the politicians and corporations. The politicians talk big, but when it comes down to it, any profit made will be squandered to CEO`s and Administration, like usual.
PackOfPeterJackson 1 day ago
@PackOfPeterJackson I am also Canadian, and the situation there is different. There is no infrastructure there. The corps will build the infrastructure, hiring afghans to do it and maintain it, giving them jobs. This will kickstart the economy and infuse it with cash and get it moving. Afghanistan would probably take 40-60 years to do it all themselves, but this will get them going. It will also spawn many other positive projects, and the stuff built by corps will be useful for other things.
enderthane 18 hours ago
@PackOfPeterJackson I understand you think that the war is waged for corporate gain, and maybe it is in some ways. The other side of the coin is this, the people of Afghanistan are benefitting here, too. Now they have jobs, they are geting the country built up economicaly and socialy. They have more freedoms and have fewer oppressors. The international community is trying to help them out, but they are not dictating how the Afghans are going to do it. Cont...

@PackOfPeterJackson Oh yes, there are lots of resources there, you are right, on that I will concede. The problem is there is no way to get to them, or at least not safely.
enderthane 18 hours ago
@PackOfPeterJackson As to trolling, give me a break. I go and read comments as far back as I can stomach. I like to see what is being discussed and put what I think may help give a different view to the points. You are behaving like a belligerent know-it-all, which I am sure you are not. Lighten up. Do you really think everyone but you knows nothing about the bad things in the world? We all have perspectives based on experiences. You are not the only guy who knows stuff.
enderthane 2 days ago
@enderthane If you trolled back 30 comments, then yes you just trolled. I know you can`t admit you are wrong, but that is because your ego is involved. I guess the USGS was just there for fun and games. I already proved you wrong, just admit it. Oh and for someone that claims I am a know it all, sure likes to act like they know it all.
PackOfPeterJackson 2 days ago
@PackOfPeterJackson Trolling? Or reading and learning. You can say I am wrong all you like, does not make you right. What makes you right? Is this an arbitrary motion on your part that you think you are right and anyone who says differently is wrong? Prove what you say with facts, published facts, before you say you are absolutely right. Until you do you are just stating an opinion like the rest of us. You did not prove anything, just spewed an acronym.
