@xbabyxkayla shark attacks are extremely rare, just more publicized. First thing, they don't see us as their prey - we are an unknown to them, and they would rather stick with food they do know such a seals. Secondly, the majority of shark attacks are either them mistaking us for seals.

So really, nothing to be afraid of going down in a cage with sharks around. Unless you're bleeding, of course.

Thats the reason why those sharks become dangerous for people. This got nothing to do with science. They just do this for fun and disturb the animal in its natural environment. So the sharks behaviour becomes more and more used to human beeing and he looses the respect for this strange animal he sees there. And in the end when the shark starts to attack people its the big bad sharks fault and not human beeings fault at all.

@xevious2501 there is talk of phasing it out, it hasn't been proved yet if it encourages attacks though and its more the chum luring them to the boat that encourages them. i've done caging and the sharks seriously weren't interested and just swam by. i dont think i'd do it again as it was a bit of a shame since the shark kept bumping its nose on the cage ha poor thing. i wouldn't call it stupid - people make good money outta it.

Anyway, as someone already said, sharks sense fear not smell it and its based on the acoustics within your body and heart rate which lets be frank, whether your the calmest looking person on the planet, your adrenaline is going to be pumping into that ocean. I hate this "sport". It brings sharks in closer to land and is ultimately, dangerous. Whatever floats your boat.. so to speak. ;)

i can't stress how dangerous cage diving is... the cage creates electric signals that sharks can sense, so they go crazy after the cage. they've gotten in cages before through the top. that's part of why it's illegal in so many countries. i understand that people pay outrageous fees for this crap for a thrill so it wont go out of business, but it will always be dangerous and stupid.
