All were great I think since she did it alone Whitney Houston was my personal favorite of all time so far.... I also liked Faith Hill, Carrie Underwood, Jordan Sparks, and Mariah Carey's performances. I don't know why but I think it sounds better when women sing it. I think that Charice would be amazing if she sang it.

All 3 are tops! Dixie Chicks' rendition brought me to tears. As for Whitney- can't help but mourn what Bobby Brown, drugs and a life of privilege did to devastate that awesome, one of a kind voice.

I think Whitney's has so much passion and power, full of emotion. The military choirs were nothing too special vocally, but were special in representing the military and patriotic in a unique way.

Whitney's version will never be topped. She didn't have to manipulate the melody and try alot of vocal tricks. She just sang the song as it was written except for the octave change on the word "free". Straight forward singing and so powerful. The Dixie Chicks have beautiful harmonies but sounded like they were trying to sell country music rather then pay tribute to the country through the song.

I am sorry I do not think the Dixi chicks and singing our great nations athem go together. They to me ruin the whole thing and I did not even waste my time listening to them sing. Its one thing to sing that great song for the sake of the song, which is what they did its a whole different thing when your singing the song with passing because you belive it. After what the chicks have said about our troops and our country I could care less for them!

Does our democratic republic not allow one to disagree with and be critical of a policy position of our government without ridicule? The notion that any American does not wish the best for our troops regardless of whether they agree on why the nation is involved in war is quite unbelievable. You're quite entitled to have your own favorite SSB performances just like the rest of us. That being said, I guess any male's performance of it is just horrible, according to your logic. A performance of the national anthem does not require high notes to be a good performance.

I personally love the harmonies the Dixie Chicks used, thus it is one of my favorites. However, Whitney, Mariah and Faith are right up there, along with Marvin Gaye.

They are all incredible, but I have to say the military acadamies singing is, for me, the truest and the most moving - no marketed individual or group, but a collection who work and sweat for the country they are singing about.

You can't compare them. They are different styles. I prefer Whitney's the most, but I also lean more towards soul music than country music.

If you're a country music fan, then Dixie chicks would probably be your preference.

whitney overdoes her performance. The choirs were great,I liked that. But the harmony that Dixie Chics performs this song throughout the song, beats them all.
