Omg, you guys are sick as fuqk....Whitney Houston killed it hands down. The Dixie chicks? Really, Really! Come on now people, Whitney had POWER to her performance it was emotional, there was passion, I could really feel it. The Dixie Chicks harmony was great but they sounded like a regular trio, nothing spectactular!
I forgot to say for male version's I think that Josh Groban's anthem at the Lions vs Packers Game was the best so far, he is the male version of Whitney's anthem! GOD BLESS THE USA!
All were great I think since she did it alone Whitney Houston was my personal favorite of all time so far.... I also liked Faith Hill, Carrie Underwood, Jordan Sparks, and Mariah Carey's performances. I don't know why but I think it sounds better when women sing it. I think that Charice would be amazing if she sang it.
Whitney souled it up, the dixies added the raw patriotism , the choirs refined it. America what a country man! .its got blemishes on its record but what country doesnt? All the best from S.Affrica
I hate it when people sing this beautiful, patriotic song just for the show. I love this country and everything it stands for. This is a beautiful compilation.
All 3 are tops! Dixie Chicks' rendition brought me to tears. As for Whitney- can't help but mourn what Bobby Brown, drugs and a life of privilege did to devastate that awesome, one of a kind voice.
I think Whitney's has so much passion and power, full of emotion. The military choirs were nothing too special vocally, but were special in representing the military and patriotic in a unique way.
Whitney's version will never be topped. She didn't have to manipulate the melody and try alot of vocal tricks. She just sang the song as it was written except for the octave change on the word "free". Straight forward singing and so powerful. The Dixie Chicks have beautiful harmonies but sounded like they were trying to sell country music rather then pay tribute to the country through the song.
Would you people get over hating the Dixie Chicks, I love the United States and don't hate the dixie chicks, what the hell ever happened to freedom of speech anyways?
"Freedom of Speech" protects Americans from government persecution for the expression of their opinions. The Chicks' rights were not violated. Those who disagree with an expressed opinion also have a right to express their opposition.
not too many of the newer singers today have the power behind their voices that Whitney does.. absolutely amazing... and even though, personally, im not a big fan of the Dixie Chicks, I do love their version also, but, I must say that the academies version was my favorite!
I am sorry I do not think the Dixi chicks and singing our great nations athem go together. They to me ruin the whole thing and I did not even waste my time listening to them sing. Its one thing to sing that great song for the sake of the song, which is what they did its a whole different thing when your singing the song with passing because you belive it. After what the chicks have said about our troops and our country I could care less for them!
The Dixie Chicks harmonies are amazing. Absolutely flawless, strong voices, lovely. Gives me goosebumps every time. Especially at the beginning of,"Gave proof through the night..."
They never bashed our troops. They simply stated their opinion regarding the former president. Does our democratic republic not allow one to disagree with and be critical of a policy position of our government without ridicule? The notion that any American does not wish the best for our troops regardless of whether they agree on why the nation is involved in war is quite unbelievable. Who are you to question ones patriotism because you don't agree with them?
First I AGREE WITH THEM! When it came to Bush I could not agree with them more. That's not where they stopped! I wanted Bush kicked out of office... Bet you didn't expect to hear that. ;) In America you have the right to say as you please and I defend that right with my LIFE!
Sir there are people that DO NOT support our troops. Americans that don't support our TROOPS if you want I can send you a message proving that point 10 different ways. ;(
all 3 anthems happened during times of turmoil whitneys was during the persian gulf war the dixie chicks was 2 years after 9-11 and the superbowl xxxix was only 2 mounts after the tusami in asia
great choice. the dixie chicks version is something special. whitney houston an all time favoirite. and the last one is the ultimate army style, everything else ist mere entertaining.
Hmm... Whitney for power and energy - best soloist for sure but the Dixie Chicks had a surprising amount of depth with their arrangement and sustained fourths. Tie??
This is a no brainer. Whitney all the way. I cant believe ud even consider the dixie chicks. LOL. They cant hit high notes to save their life. What about Mariah, Faith or Carrie Underwood? All far better than the dixie chicks.
You're quite entitled to have your own favorite SSB performances just like the rest of us. That being said, I guess any male's performance of it is just horrible, according to your logic. A performance of the national anthem does not require high notes to be a good performance.
I personally love the harmonies the Dixie Chicks used, thus it is one of my favorites. However, Whitney, Mariah and Faith are right up there, along with Marvin Gaye.
They are all incredible, but I have to say the military acadamies singing is, for me, the truest and the most moving - no marketed individual or group, but a collection who work and sweat for the country they are singing about.
Being a Tampa native, I was there for Whitney and The Dixie Chicks. Whitney's was by far the most fabulous and moving national anthems ever sung. It's kind of a joke that the Dixie Chicks were singing the national anthem but it wasn't bad
I agree in the order. The third was much more gentle and sort of reminicent. Im not even american, but my mother is. Its a beautiful anthem, Ill be the first Canadian to say it (I still love my country.) The last group were just so happy to be there.
If I was American I would like Whitney's for the shear over the top performance that everyone else tries to copy. The choir is got a bit lost in the beginning. I like the Dixie Chicks te best. Oh and if you want a free education and health care come on down to New Zealand
As non-American, just want to give my rating for these three different approaches for the Anthem.
whitney overdoes her performance. The choirs were great,I liked that. But the harmony that Dixie Chics performs this song throughout the song, beats them all.
Lets compare to Nazi Germany. They had many parades and racist insults against "non-aryans" with patriotic fevour notwithstanding domestic or international events. Americans can and should be proud of their democratic traditions.
Wow, those three plus Marvin Gaye and Jimi Hendrix are the best renditions I've heard so far. They make me proud to be an American. I might not like how the government is right now, but I still love this country and the ideals it was founded upon.
Dixie Chicks, without a doubt. The harmonization is so awesome, it gave me chills just about every second they sang it. That was the best I've ever heard. I loved it.
Whichever one I'm watching is the best. All three are excellent. Whitney's and the choir's are more inspirational. The Chick's version is simply awesome. Cher's national anthem in the Atlanta-Broncos Super Bowl ranks in the top 3 for me. Listen to it. Whitney's was lyp synched and cannot be counted.
