  • compensation even...

  • If you've had an accident, at work, or during invasions, you could claim comensation..we're lawyers, inhuman machines.....

  • Very well done. it looks exactly as you'd expect colour tv to look in the 60's

  • How to move the protesters from St Paul's Cathedral right there! :D

  • As a young kid even the electronic music was terrifying enough

  • Man, CyberBeerRuns are something....

  • whooo, that sound gives me the creeps.

  • i'm impressed.it looks like the colour photo's on my invasion dvd.

  • @TRUMPER007 Nah, it's the Apprentice.....

  • This is one of my favorite episodeds!

  • could it be possible to colorises the whole scene when the cybermen burst from the sewers. Greatly appreciated :D

  • Excellent!

  • how did you do this? did you put red, blue and yellow filters over it? or did you put every frame in photoshop?

  • the greatest scene in Dr Who history

  • Why do most people these days think that black and wight shows are boring? i mean its just the piture thats all! i love watching black and wight episode of dr who superman and batman

  • @dalekside97 This scene is looks way more creepy in black and white. I wish they never deleted episodes of the old one :(

  • @dalekside97 Personally the black and white Doctor Who's tend to be my favorites.

  • Why do most people these days think that black and wight shows are boring? i mean its just the piture thats all! i love watching black and wight episode of dr who superman and batman

  • why can't they just colourise all the black and white episodes, add in new fx and they will be even better! nice job!

  • That is badass. The crappy cybusmen have to march in formation, perfectly in sync and stamp as much as possible to make them look intimidating. These guys can just casually walk down the street like they own the place.

  • This story is excellent apart from the fact the Cybermen don't speak much which is a shame and that could have been better in billions of ways.

  • WOW!!

  • Ive loved this part of the invasion and its quite good in colour :)

  • Excellent.

  • you should try another clip from the invasion in colour.like Isobel Watkins going in to the sewers with jamie and zoe to take photos of the cybermen.there are colour photos of the scene.if you want to use them i'll send a link to you.

  • if you use after effects the rotorscoping is pretty easy. hmmm i might have a go myself

  • What is cocoa coloriser? and where can I get it?

  • Nice effect. Isn't this where the Foot bridge is now?

  • this scene really did scare me coz the first time i watched this i was about 4 or 5 :P

  • can you colourise a clip from fireball xl5?

  • I reckon the BBC should release some colourized episodes in box sets sometime, and they should look as fantastic as this. Great scene.

  • This is the most epic shot in dr who HISTORY!!!

  • That is awsome, good work.

  • nothing beats the original cybermen.

  • Excellent! The colours look very natural.

  • I prefer the original cybermen.

They were supposed to look a bit the borg from star trek underneath the suit they even reproduce like them (although they pre date the borg by decades).

Their origin was better than the new cybermen, Mondas their homeworld was suffering a plague, and through their cybernetics technology they were able to replace their diseased limbs and organs, they were also able to enhance their brains but this left them cold and unemotional.

  • Well, Star Trek has already admitted that the Q continuum was based on the Time Lords, I guess it's not that far fetched to entertain the posibility that the cybernen just may have infuenced the borg. lol, love them both

  • THE CYBER VERSION OF 'DRAGONS DEN'

  • He colourized it

  • Oh dear. It has been colourised by colouring each frame one by one. No DW footage before 1970 was ever shot in colour.

  • Hello I think the bbc should colour the best doctor who episodes

    dAvEo

  • awesome. That is such a legend episode

  • how did you do this?

  • Tremendous stuff, man, very well done indeed.

In the idiotic hope that anyone with some clout listens to the masses' opinion - PLEASE BRING BACK THE MONDASIANS. They're the ONLY Cybermen.

  • NEW CYBERMEN SUCK! BRING BACK OLD ONES

  • The twin planet to Earth that the Cybermen first appear from was named Mondas ('The Tenth Planet'). They took over the tombs on Telos at some point ('The Tomb of the Cybermen'/'Attack of the Cybermen')

  • Well, you never know, they may use the originals in the series. The ones you saw in the latest show are from an alternative dimension. The ones from the original series were from the planet Telos, supposedly a twin planet to earth. if memory serves, correct me if I'm wrong.

  • Actually, the old ones were from Mondas, which was a twin planet to Earth. Telos was an ice world where many Cybermen were hidden.

  • that happens nowadays in london. the only difference is that the cybermen now are chavs

  • @powerhousechipmunk23 Think I prefer the originals!

  • They where called cybershades they are the cybermens experements on cats and dogs

  • The cybermen have always been my favourite Dr Who baddies. Not sure about those cyber cat/monkey things that were in the christmas special though.

Great to see the classic cybermen again

  • i dont know why the new cybermen are not as terrorfying as the old version of the cybermen but they are. the new cybermen may look far better but, they lack the sense of horror that the old ones had i think its because the old ones looked somewhat still human while the new ones look totaly machine like.

  • I think you've hit the nail on the head there. I like the robotic/army like sounds and movement of the new cybermen, but as you say, they've maybe lost that human element. I found the old Daleks more sinister too.

Maybe I look on the past with rose tinted spectacles?

  • The somewhat tatty nature of the old Daleks made them more menacing and almost battle-worn. They looked like they could be real.

  • id like to see the cybermen do this pul fiction style sci fi patrol in croydon high street

  • cool i always get buged when i see drwho in b&w

  • why? are u such a culturally inept cretin that you can't stand something oether than what you know?

B&W doctor who was lit, directed etc because it was black and white. as such, colourising black adn white stories that were black and white to begin with it moot.

  • In the year that this came out the Us was had most of all of its shows in colour.

  • That's cos the Beeb was a few years behind the times.

  • BBC didn't have colour until the 70's

  • Ac tually, BBC-2 transmitted various programmes in colour in 1967. Troughton's last season could have been in colour, but they decided to keep it B/W instead and if re-commissioned for a 7th series - then record in colour.

  • I think they should have recorded in colour.

  • Or film it in colour in the case of the first story of that series

  • great couler and brillent video!!!!

  • how did you get the colour added, thats impressive!

  • even better in colour

  • that's excellent!

  • I read in a back issue of "Doctor Who Magazine" that this episode takes place before the 10th planet. It looks like it could be set in the year it was made, but Doctor Who magazine said it is set in 1975.

  • i'm pretty usre the tenth planet was set in 1985 and the invasion was set in around 1968-1970

  • Your'e right! The Tenth Planet was:

Snowcap Space Tracking Station, South Pole, December 1986.

    And the invasion was:

    London, 1969

  • this si true cos attack of the cybermen is set in 84

  • This was 60s - a brilliant Patrick Troughton story called The Invasion. And this scene is a great example of creepy atmosphere in classic Who.

  • Imagine those things approaching you..at night..and your trapped...i think that would be scary lol

  • true but I whould be more sceard of the new cybermen

  • I'm still freaked out by them. I'm not scared by the Cybus Cybermen.

  • why are they better? because they look "modern"?

The old cybermen look 'better' imo - more close to the idea of humans who replaced parts of themselves not just stuck in a moulded tin can.

  • they are not. they are too robotic, not human elemets exsept the brain. the old cybermen where said to smell off rotten flesh, they where human corpses with metal armous on,and they were killers. the new ones are ridiculous,. watch the age of steel,if cybermen have no emotions, why does one stupidly get upset about it not being with it's lover not being with it while it's dying. the cybermen are evil, not little robot things with emotions. the new ones are an insult to the originals.

  • if you were a true fan you'd know it was explained immediatly after that the doctor accidently broke the emotion hindering device.

  • I think you'll find i am a true fan,it's just i have not watched the invasion in two years and obviously cannot remember every inch of detail.

  • He's not taking about the invasion. And there was an emotional cybermen in the invasion anyways.

  • this is very good.i colourised a three second clip from web of fear once,it wasn't very good. i done it a very primitive way to what you did here

  • how did u do it????

  • i would like to know

  • my god thats cheesy, but good

  • I work in the building on their left, except it's been totally rebuilt, the steps are totally different too.

  • That's a bit of a dodgy place to work mate. Didn't you see them cybermen? ;P

  • I was still an itch in my Dad's pants back then! but the building was rebuilt, probably kuz the cybermen destroyed it!

  • Well I'm sure you've realized by now that people make jokes sometimes.

    ;D

  • Iconic!

  • I've just come.

  • The stuff you could do if you were at the BBC (or perhaps, more precisely, the Doctor Who Restoration Team (?))...

  • very good

  • Yes - I know. I've seen the screenshots on your site, but surely this just masks areas and you still need to move the mask for each frame?

Anyway - you know already the extent of my research as I've made it pretty public. I'm now at a stage where I'm able to do quite a bit in a short space of time, so if you're interested and want to learn more please contact me and we'll discuss it. I'm keen to help out.

  • Cocoa Colouriser doesn't use masks.

    The mask option,

    ( which I very rarely use ),

is there to prevent the main engine going over areas that don't need treatment.

  • Ok, but what about the rotoscoping of areas? How have you overcome this?

  • How do you deal with tracking the objects (rotoscoping)? I'm also doing the same using PC software...

  • I use Cocoa Colouriser

  • The major point it's not he rotoscope, but thew calculation of the color spectrun (hues and saturation values varing a little along shadow/mildtone~/highlights. How do you calculate that?

  • @DoctorHue How can I find this programme?

  • dangerously cool!!!

  • Very nice!

  • BRILLIANT STUFF

  • Ok try a whoel episode

  • very impressive

  • how did u do that?

  • A bit of Photoshop and two custom plug-ins I wrote for Final Cut Pro

  • cool, its gr8

  • That's bloody good. St Pauls looks spot on.

  • more please

  • Brilliant

  • Amazing

  • Wow.
