Can you show me the links to the performance parts you put into this delorean? I might be buying one and I would like to turbo charge it. BTW love the sound in this delorean!
I'm no high-performance car tune-up expert, but wow. The turbo lag at low speeds isn't too bad and that little hiss on gear changes is always satisfying. And it actually SOUNDS like a sports car here, rather than a stock DeLorean which is pretty weedy by comparison.
.
Can I ask the uploader, how much does the new engine and/or uprated parts on this one affect the handling? De's are known to be a tad too "drifty" even with a lower bhp engine, hopefully these mods go some way to fixing this?
@whoiscuriousgeorge I'm not sure where you've heard that they're too "drifty" - they're actually very neutral and when the tail does let go, it's very controllable. The handling isn't adversely affected at all. If you sheck out my other wideos, you'll find a more recent test drive video. The car now has a rear anti-roll bar which makes controlling a slide even easier.
@mdgonzo101 Ok now that might be true. But if you didn't notice, that's a F**king DeLorean. Even if the setup is lame and it isn't that fast, compared to the focus...wait a second...there is no comparison. As long as it can look cool and go 88, you're all good.
I thought the original front/rear weight distribution stock, was 37/63? The reason I think of a porsche box, is because its stronger. These OEM boxes are only rated for 300 ft lbs tq. I guess your saying the GTO racing gears are stronger?
The roll bar will be nice. One thing about D's is (or so it seems to me) is, although OEM parts a abundant, aftermarket performance parts are not. Something Im not used to coming from the Porsche world.
The delorean was pretty light. The only real drawbacks IMO, is the weight distribution, and DOT putting such tight restrictions on them, cause significant power loss. JZD it seems intended for a turbo car from the beginning.
Im currently shopping for a delorean builder. I followed the link from your website. Im interested in one of your engines. Im wondering if any 911 transaxles will fit with this engine in a D.Would be more interested in the 3.0 12v TT.That with a really strong porsche box...
I have two 3 litre turbo projects in the pipeline. one singe, one twin. Using a Porsche transmission for the sake of it is pointless given the stock transmission can be rebuilt with a gearset from GTO Racing and then everything will fit and work natively. The weight distribution was not a problem on the Alpine GTA and A610, the only main drawblack was a lack of rear anti-roll bar, which is somethign else I'll soon be making available.
I've often wondered if anything interesting could be done with the rather boring prv12 in the xm, but i think main issue is total lack of space to mount anything onto it or around it.
heh so this one does it in about 7-8 seconds? :P always been a fan of the Delorean but there power to weight ratio is not very good. along with gear ratio. just not a good platform for sped.
As is pointed out in the "info" section, and blatent in the video itself, the driver is not moving off the line as hard as he can. These cars are valuable and he has too much respect for his clutch and tranmission. The same engine and transmission is found in the Alpine GTA V6 Turbo and is a very quick car.
Deloreans made 156hp at the fly, but the same engine in european renaults and euro specced deloreans produces 190hp, the whole emissions and fuel saving crap made the cars slow!
I'm afraid your figures are wrong. The standrd DeLorean engine made 130hp at the flywheel, the equivalent Volvo B28E made 156hp. The only naturally aspirated production PRV to get close to 190 was the 3 litre 24v at just over 200. Natrually aspirated 2.8 Volvo and 3 litre renault 12v's produced 170hp.
Ahh yeah i just realised, i had a v6turbo r25 wasn't so clued up on the delorean lump, either way the US spec cars were poor performance wise, when i pick my delorean up i'll be going either the 2.5 or 3.0 turbo route, unless i can find a safrane biturbo unit
Yes, but with uprated Renault turbo clutch. The DeLorean transmission has the same weak points as the Alpine GTA which had this engine as standard. The stock manual transmission is good for up to 300ft-lbs torque.
I see...Im planning on dropping a 300hp 08 Caddi STS V6 motor in...I'm not gonna step on it or do quarter miles runs with it, I think I should be ok with the stock tranny. There is an updated main trans shaft for it that eliminates the weak point around 5th gear but thats about 5G's! ouch
Thnx for answering my question in such a timely manner sir
Absolutely..vented rotors and ceramic pads etc...new coil overs and so on. The new engine's weight should remain the same. I'm pushing 40, so I'm not a young kid anymore, my intentions are not racing just knowing the power is there when you want to pass or go up the hill. I also have an 86 Ferrari Testarossa and she has planty of power if I want to race hahahah
I appriciate your concerns and again, thnx for the great advise
No problems - you obviously know what real power feels like! It's so dofficult to convey without actually sitting down in the car! My "toy" is a Venturi Atlantique 300 - a 3 litre turbo PRV pushing 300hp and 320ft-lbs. Huge brakes, stiff suspension and waaay more powerful than would ever be safe in a DeLorean IMO.
If sound alone is considered art, the turbo charger stands as a glorious example.

DrKnife007 10 months ago
This is what the delorean needed. 260 hp would of beat the arse of most luxary coupe's in it's day

Does it do fuel metering, spark timing, boost control, and knock sensing?
Thanks.

IMO there's only so much power a DeLorean can safely use. 300hp is a lot of horses and you'll need to look at uprating brakes and suspension.

These cars have a lot of potential. It doesn't take a lot to make them fast, considering they only weigh 2700 pounds.
