ok so im attempting recording screams of my own and they never sound right when they're recorded... i use an sm57 which im sure is not the best for screams, but my question is how do you edit them? cause it sounds like the live and recorded are different and i cant find anywhere how to edit/mix screams.
@Latronox I just made a quick tutorial that might help with eq/compressor settings. Check out my channel and see if the guide helps you out. In live situation you usually get some compression/distortion from the pre-amplifiers in the PA system...thats why in live performance screaming can sound more brutal than it really is.
yeah this is actually good thing...to show people how scream vocals actually sound in person and inside a mix... i don't know how to fry scream so i don't know how hard is to mix them but i think i use false chords and they are pretty easy to mix... you can check my channell for the latest videos to see the vocals...
When is the whole song gonna be out? I heard the instrumental and shit, but towards the end, when it combines the processed vocals with the track, that shit is amazing!
This is my favorite song. I'm glad you showed what to put on vocals. Nowwwww... YOU SHOULD MAKE A VOD ON GUITAR???? :3 it would make me, and lot of people so happy seeing as how no one else will show what to do with your guitar on a recording....
Can you run by me the program and effects you use. Fry screams are so hard to get to sound get on recording and compressors can only do so much. Help me out please?
@lilman1067 I just uploaded a short tutorial showing how to mix screaming vocals with free VST plugins. Check it out on my channel. Hope it helps. What you need to do is copy the settings and fine tune parameters according to your voice (add brightness, more/less compression, volume levels etc.)
some editing software alot of bands use are Cubase 6, Reaper, garage band from what i hear i use Reaper though cause i think its a much simpler program :)
Your dick is too small to be a screamer. That's your only downfall. You have a great ass though. Maybe that will make up for it. Good luck! Kisses! Sincerely, Jefferey Dahmer.
@hobojoe102 The mic is connected to my firewire solo soundcard and the soundcard is connected to my laptop. If you want to connect your mic directly to the pc you should have a usb microphone with build in pre-amp.
Man that was fucking beautiful.... I am trying to learn the fry technique but I'm failing all the time! I can do some pretty decent false cords though but i wanna learn fry screams. Is there a possibility that it's something that you get naturally and you can't learn it? If otherwise... do you have any tips I could use?
@V3rciS Do an "r" sound, something like the sound that the ghost from "Grudge" does, then just like exhale or push alot of air from your stomach. It works for me. (:
@wassabiking787 To get the autotune sound you need to use autotune. I think there are some autotune tutorials on the tube. The idea is to set the autotuner to heavy and fast tracking so that it will tune and release the notes with fast rate.
@wassabiking787 or get a vocal processor pedal. It should have an pitch correct effect and then you will be able to set the key and soft hard or robot. etc.
@isetmfriendsofire I do believe they are the same material NASA uses in their spaceships. Unbreakable super-blankets!...not really...just some basic cheapest blankets I could find from IKEA...I think they were like 2-3Eur/per blanket. Its enough to kill the room reverb.
hey dude awesome i heard the whole song! anyway i was wonderin if you could put up a vid on how to fry scream! i watched tons of those vids but i still can't gei it!
I have a little question tho, i recently started with recording and stuff now i dont have any thing here to make this kind of booth or blocked space for my singing / screaming. what effects did you put on the end result of the voice if i may ask ? :)
okay...can somebody explain the pros and cons of False chord screams next to fry screams...(cuz I do false chords) and I've heard that..False chords are more powerful sounding but callous your throat (did I spell that right?) as to where fry's are less powerful but dont screw your throat so much..and to tell yout he truth I cant even fry I can only do false chords haha but from people that've heard me they say I sound pretty good..(btw dont make fun of my name we all know BMTH blows...but c'mon)
@RawrInYawrHeart thats what I think but my cousin told me thats what the guy from The Black Dahlia Murder did (he used to do false chords) and that he couldnt talk for a month and now he does frys...and I just prefer false chords so I was just wondering haha
Ive been doing fry vocals for about 4 years now and I have "mastered" a lot of it. You have something really going for you but you need to work on the amount of throat you use versus how much diaphram you use. your screams sound almost all throat and no diaphram. when you tighten up your throat muscles just push a little more air through your diaphram which will give your scream a lot more volume, clarity, and power.
can somebody help me pls? i don't know how to explain really, but when i'm fry screaming i don't have a lot of space in my throath to make the sound louder, because the sound is coming from the upper part of the throath. this was the first problem, the second one is that when i'm screaming my larynx goes down and up and if i'm screaming an entire song it hurts my larynx muscles because they are contracting again and again. somebody tell me what i'm doing wrong
@mihai232323 Maybe you are simply putting too much effort and pressure on the scream. If you push harder than your cords can handle you're vocals cords are going to get swollen and after that screaming becomes very difficult. What you might want to try is a bottom-up approach. Try to make the fry with the least volume as possible something close to a normal spoken voice and cup the mic (in a live performance). After your voice gets stronger you can increase the pressure and get louder screams.
lyrics... "pizza! ayight! whoah! there are whores inside you!!! cork coming alive! like a sumo is throwing!!! its raining on your eye! whip your foot down!! ill be weighing! for the women on my completion! pears, fur, your skin.. will ease me!! I Will fee so light while im touching my insides!!
haha just for fun and possibly thumb ups... greay song dude!
ill admit i can scream like he can, except i have a higher voice.. your scream is awesome bro! i just descovered the secret recently! the secret to a great scream is not youtube.. its practice practice practice!!! just keep watching this guy right here.. watch what he does... how high his head is and what you hear from his mouth... you will get it!
I gotta say, this would sound much better with false cords. They just seem to match so much better with melodeath unless you're doing a modern In Flames thing with the clean melodies.
I never even heard of fry screaming until just now...now I know word to use when describing the style of screaming I think it wicked lame. I've always called it the bro dude scream, since it was always bro dudes that listened to the type of metal with this style of screaming. Now I'm not trying to be a dick, I'm just stating an opinion. I prefer screams like in converge, or suicide silence. I think this style of screaming sounds contrived, and weak. not my style.
this video was great! I always wondered how screams sounded acapella. what effects do you add onto the screams though to make them sparkle a little more though? was it just simple EQing, or some other techniques?
so do you do elmer fudd on top of a loud "aaaaaaaah!"? I'm trying to get it down but I'm having trouble getting it past the talking stage of vocal fry.
@Heidiscope That is what most people might think. When you have the screaming technique correct with enough support from your diaphragm your voice doesn't wear out. Doing death metal vocals is almost like singing with rasp except there is no note and just the resonating overtones. Of course like with every vocal technique there is a risk of pushing too hard and losing your voice.
@samianttila hey ive been growling for a few years now just for the sake of doing it, now though its a past time of mine to sing so naturaly, but i've lost my voice many times in the past hardly anymore, yet i still strain my throst ,and still havn't found a comfortable way of useing my diaphragm any tips???
one question, it looks like u barrely put any effort on your screams and it takes me a lot of effort to do them like a lot of force, could you tell me if I am doing something wrong?
@Demiigodd You may be doing an actualy scream. Fry screaming is a completely different category of vocals.
Its not really screaming, in a sense, as "screaming" is perceived as the strong and loud force of vocals.
Its more just lightly using your throat as a means to distort your voice without causing any strain or potential damage. It usually isn't as loud as other types, tough.
Also, make sure you use the correct technique, as in breathing, diaphragm usage, etc etc, 4 characters remaining..
Because fryes are rather easy to aircontrol and doesn't need much pressure :o
Though false chords does, you run out of air quickly and it uses alot of power.
Use your diaphragm (stomach) when you breathe in. Store the air in your stomach and you won't run out of breath as fast as when you breathe in to your lungs.
Take my tips with a pinch of salt, perhaps you'd do better listening to Sami ;p
@GuideMeMetal thanks man, I think I might be doing false chord lol, ok my screams are similar to august burns red, I thought I was doing fryes cause I am not gorwling like you would in a deathmetal type of stuff. All I know is that it sounds good, doesn't really hurts and I use my diaphragm. I've been screaming for some time I am not really that new to this but I've always been confused with the different techniques.
It may be because they don't sing with a "heat"... How should I explain this...? ;p The heat is like an overtone of the fry. It makes a scream similar to what Sami Anttila screams in this video...
I'm not sure... But if you sing without much heat you get that lower, more brutal scream... This I'm not sure about and can be TOTALLY wrong ;p just a theory I made up in my little head x)
@GuideMeMetal oh yeha I understand the heat theory lol I watched that old ladies video lmao, but yeah I get you, perhaps one day I will upload something and I can show you lol
Sounds awsome buddie.

this video was great! I always wondered how screams sounded acapella. what effects do you add onto the screams though to make them sparkle a little more though? was it just simple EQing, or some other techniques?
EricCW 1 year ago 17
@EricCW Its just eq + compressor. Pretty much what you would normally use for a vocal track.

so do you do elmer fudd on top of a loud "aaaaaaaah!"? I'm trying to get it down but I'm having trouble getting it past the talking stage of vocal fry.
fashank22 1 year ago
Man that can't be good for your voice- keep doing that and it won't last long
Heidiscope 1 year ago
@Heidiscope That is what most people might think. When you have the screaming technique correct with enough support from your diaphragm your voice doesn't wear out. Doing death metal vocals is almost like singing with rasp except there is no note and just the resonating overtones. Of course like with every vocal technique there is a risk of pushing too hard and losing your voice.

Sometimes I want to go very very low and I think I push too hard and then I notice a change in tone and voice

@Heidiscope I've been doing vocals for five years, sometimes playing songs non stop right after one another and have never had a single problem.
The only way you'd lose your voice from this is if you are doing it completely fucking wrong.

one question, it looks like u barrely put any effort on your screams and it takes me a lot of effort to do them like a lot of force, could you tell me if I am doing something wrong?
Demiigodd 1 year ago
@Demiigodd You may be doing an actualy scream. Fry screaming is a completely different category of vocals.
Its not really screaming, in a sense, as "screaming" is perceived as the strong and loud force of vocals.
Its more just lightly using your throat as a means to distort your voice without causing any strain or potential damage. It usually isn't as loud as other types, tough.
Also, make sure you use the correct technique, as in breathing, diaphragm usage, etc etc, 4 characters remaining..

@Demiigodd You sure you're doing fryes? ;o
Just thought I was going to answer that ;p
GuideMeMetal 1 year ago
@GuideMeMetal thanks man, I think I might be doing false chord lol, ok my screams are similar to august burns red, I thought I was doing fryes cause I am not gorwling like you would in a deathmetal type of stuff. All I know is that it sounds good, doesn't really hurts and I use my diaphragm. I've been screaming for some time I am not really that new to this but I've always been confused with the different techniques.
Demiigodd 1 year ago
@Demiigodd I'd say that August burns red is frys.
But I get what you mean, it sounds very powerful.
GuideMeMetal 1 year ago
@GuideMeMetal oh yeha I understand the heat theory lol I watched that old ladies video lmao, but yeah I get you, perhaps one day I will upload something and I can show you lol
