@slickmasta12 You're right, vinyls are expensive. Also, here in Finland there aren't much electronic music vinyl shops and vinyls must be ordered from for example UK. I recommend you to buy used Traktor control vinyl setup and use beatport, itunes, etc to buy your music. Much cheaper that way and you don't have to save from vinyl players.
Lemme say first of all, this is the best tutorial site I've seen. U make it really easy to understand and follow. So thanx, Angelo. Now my question... I am having a HELLUVA time finding records. I can find recycled records very easy but not new releases of current music. Where can I get new music from? Do I hafta order them or is there known stores here in te US?

I just found your videos and i'm not afraid to say i'm 40 and always wondered why I couldn't get most of this stuff back in the 80's and wound up switching over to rappin. Now in about half an hour you have explained what was going wrong. I now am going to buy some more Tech 12's and try again. I know i'll be able to get given the instructions you've especially the part about the faders. My faders weren't coming in untin it got past half way and as a beginner i wasn't fast enough for that.
agree with from the ropes, best tutorials around! Thank You! I always have had trouble with the scratch(probably due to starting with fader open) but your tutorial has been incredibly helpful, suggesting to start with the TT motor off has been a big help as well. It's reassuring to hear you say this is a difficult one to master, I always thought it should be a simple beginners scratch but could never get the hang of it. Thanks again and keep up the good work!
thanks for the tutorials, i appreciate you takin the time to post these up! got any advice for someone with creativity block? i have a hard time thinkin of new patterns and sentences and always find myself reverting back to the same techniques. it sucks! haha
Hey Angelo, 2 weeks ago I got the 1 click orbit. Now I can't stop orbiting! Combined with the other simpler scratches I feel like I can now really scratch. From no mixer experience to here it took me 15 months. Thanks for your help.
i'll be completely honest. this is 10 times better than any tutorial dj q bert did. and this helps us to follow someone that doesnt have such a huge figure so that there's not a million people trying to copy q bert. these vids are great man keep it up
Excellent videos I have been following since tutorial one. Not sure if you're still checking the posts, but your tutorials have really helped me to develop my skills. You are an excellent teacher, which really sets these tutorials apart from the others.
Oh man, you are the bomb; and this tutorial rocks the house! So great to finally see a well put together tutorial, I only happened to stumble across it searching for 1 click flare, but think I will start at the beginning of your tuts cos they are very clear and professional. Well spoken, love the comprehensive step by step, love the combo and beat demos, good camera angle for hand positioning and you've not gone too fast which most do making it hard to learn! Lovin it.
oj man, after a year i am here with you at flare tutorial! Just wondering when you're going to drop some new mixtape? btw. what about visiting Poland in Wroclaw and giving some good performance? peace!
I've read several Flare Orbit Tutorials and didn't get the point, which is the open crossfader between the forward and backward movement. Thanks man... this was really helpful... keep up the good work...
hey i really wat to get in to DJing but i dont know anything can you start me off by giving me a list of record i could buy. and where? cuz i just bought the whole turn table system already. plz.
Man... I've been scratching for years as a hobby really and workin with the xfader open throws me all over the place! :-D Thanks for some inspiration Angelo...
in pattern 3, the stabs you do immediately after the orbits look to me more like (half) chrips, or am i mistaking? because the fader is open after you pulled the record back from the orbit
love these videos have inspired me so much i will learn this damn technique finding it so hard to Start with the Fader ON actually feels impossible and is it true i need to be moving (my record) one hand slightly behind the other(fader)? or else i seem to cut the first sound out completely.i like how it says aat the end it took ages so there is hope !
@LOW3beats one thing that has helped me a little is imagining that you are playing bongos! lol seriously your record hand moves first, second count your fader hand cuts then record hand rewinds, fader hand cuts... wash n repeat! hope this makes sense lol. Props to Angelo for the great tutorial!
ya same here i tend to cut the sound off completely if i move the fader with the scratch. it seems like you have to move the fader after each scratch which is hella hard.
i'm still bizy with learning that is dficult man.but ye keep trying.the dificult thing is that you left hand an yourr right hand are doing 2 diffrent things so 4 me is dificult but keep I practise.
can't thank you enough mate, I have pretty much mastered the chirp through your video and now after just a few days I'm starting to really get this. I'm having some great success with a chirp one click combo, I just can't stop doing it haha. Looking to move to the 2 click soon and then the dreaded crab. I'd love to hear some feedback from Hamster scratchers out there how you finding learning these techniques?
I dunno if anyone else has picked up on this but I'm having more success opening the further all the way as I get faster so that I don't close it too quick!
Hi man, ure my saver!! Chirp and Flare were exactly what i need to know to give a sense to my patterns of other tricks, an dyou explained perfectly the moves and everything. Now i know what my hands have to do, to get the same sounds what those i could hear in songs. Thanks, and greats from Luxemburg.
Hey DJ Angelo! You're awesome! Thanks for sharing you knowledge and time with us. By the way, what's the name of the song that you're scratching at the end of the video, and when you're scratching are you thinking like "ok, let's do some flares in here, and then transform" or you're just doing what do you feel fits the best? Thanks a lot! Greetings from Mexico.
It really helps when you can see what your doing with the crossfader unlike most tutorials out there where u really can't see what there doing this is really going to help thanks .. Just one question on flares where is the curve best????
Amazing tutorials, easily the best out there for breaking it down. Thankyou...
Random question. I use a SHDX1200 mixer, and have a bit of crossfader bleeding. Do you have any idea whether I can replace mine with the optical one like on your SHEX1200 mixer? Random question I know but you seem to know pretty much everything so I figured you might be a good person to ask as no-one else seems to know.
sorry I accidently pushed one star for your rating and I dont know how to switch back!! Awsome videos ive learned more in the past three days from your videos then I have in the past year!!! You should make videos of just patterns to practice!! I need more :)
Hi DJ Angelo. I have the same set up as you but cannot work out how to record from my mixer to my laptop, can you explain? Wheneve both channel faders are off, you can still hear very quiet input on my laptop. How exactly have you connected? Also can you recommend any software for recording?
To record from your turntables to your laptop, you can use a PHONO to MINI-JACK cable. Connect the PHONO end to your mixer's LINE OUT and the MINI-JACK end to your laptops LINE IN. Regarding software, you could use Audacity or Sound Forge. Make sure the LINE-IN input has been enabled on your laptop.
Finally someone who breaks it down step by step. Most of the videos on here even Q-Bert videos he demonstrates it, but it's a little too fast though. Mad props to you DJ Angelo.
DJ ANGELO!! I'm french and I mix now for 4 years (I started at 14 and im 18).I was just starting to tell me that mixing became boring to me, and i didn't know how to scratch. I saw "par hasard" one of ur tutos, and i fell in love with! no buddy, im not kidding! I mix with Stanton C324, CD players, and the scratch works quite well, & ur tutos are so clear to understand!! But I think I'm gonna buy "des platines vinyles".such as numark 1 just 4 this purpose you introduced in my DJ life: Scratching!
PS: if you got tips to scratch with CD players and names of the few musics we hear in the tutos, tell me, I would be pleased, (i actually mix exclusively electro house...so i don't know you're songs names), and i've got some problems with cueing the music: Its the jog wheel, and there's no screen on it... Please add me on Facebook on my Dj profile: Hellektrader Electro-House
THANKS TO YOU!! keep doing these tutorials!!! (and sorry for the english mistakes but im a frenchie
i look around on the web on any kind of tutorial about scratching you can imagine! and there is one thing i can't get!! pls don't call me stupid but what are you guys scratching with??? (the sounds on the vinyl that your hand was on!!!!
i meen, i am a commercial dj at a modest club at a small town so scratching or any kind of a "trick" is not really necessary, plus there isn't anyone that knows so he'll teach you. soz but simple things are not so simple for some!
There's no such thing as a stupid question as everyone has to start somewhere. DJs scratch using sounds that are on the vinyl, by moving them forwards and backwards. Any sound can be scratched but it works best with clear, isolated sounds so most DJs nowadays scratch using specific records that are produced only for this purpose. There are many "scratch records" on the market. Just check the "DJ Tools" section of a record store. I'd recommend you watch my first tutorial which explains further...
Very impressive demonstration, even inspiring lol.
I'm hoping to incorporate some scratching into my mixes. Not DJ Hype status, but I want to have some extra fun in between. If I improvise all the time with my mouth, why not with my hands.
Exactly my friend. In the right hands the turntable can be a sophisticated instrument, not just a medium to play music. So why not use it to the fullest...
I can't say that I've completely mastered it but its taken me a LONG time to be able to do them at fast speeds. It's definately a technique that can't be rushed so stick with it...
Awesome tutorials, have been using some of these techniques at my residency gig lately and have been turning some heads as I never used to scratch as I am mostly a commercial DJ. May take me a while to get the hang of this one though.
"Turntablism" naturally originated from the use of turntables which is the ideal medium, but I'm sure there's plenty that can be done on CDJs. Personally I don't use them and don't see the appeal having always been a turntable DJ so I can't really offer advice.
Search YouTube for "DJ Coma" and Pioneer" for an impressive video of him performing a turntablism routine on some CDJ-1000s. He's actually a DMC champion turntablist but proves that many of the same techniques can be done on CDJs...
hey man i just got done watching the whole turtorial and man thank you, for your help, there arn't a lot of tortorials that explain how to grip the xfader and channel faders so thank you it deffently helped and improved my transformer a bunch. thanks again and keep it up...!
Great video, I've been waiting for this one for a long time, I've been trying to get this scratch for months now. This will help I'm sure, keep the vids coming :)
I will be starting some beat juggling tutorials soon but I'm trying to do these vids in a certain logical order, especially for the benefit of all beginners. So 2-Click Flare and Crab to follow, then hopefully start on beat juggling. Thanks for your support and understanding...
Yes Angelo!!!!!! Nobody explains the techniques better than you! Keep them coming. This has been a hard scratch to master, especially the 2 click variety.
great video man but how come at the last part when you were scratching to the beat you were moving the cross fader all the way to the left and the beat wasnt going out?
one of the greatest tutorials out there for sure... i got one of the greatest inspirations from just one personal message response that u wrote, something that no money can buy...
i gave you only 5 stars because you cant give 6... subbed a long time ago =)
your my number 1 source for instructional turntablism... PLS continue making them. I continually refer back to them for reminders because they are the best.
I luuuv your tutorials ! Now I can easily manage and understand more my messy scratches ;)

But I think I'm gonna buy "des platines vinyles".such as numark 1 just 4 this purpose you introduced in my DJ life: Scratching!
camfouti 2 years ago
PS: if you got tips to scratch with CD players and names of the few musics we hear in the tutos, tell me, I would be pleased, (i actually mix exclusively electro house...so i don't know you're songs names), and i've got some problems with cueing the music: Its the jog wheel, and there's no screen on it... Please add me on Facebook on my Dj profile: Hellektrader Electro-House
THANKS TO YOU!! keep doing these tutorials!!! (and sorry for the english mistakes but im a frenchie

ok if i don't ask i'll blow up!
i look around on the web on any kind of tutorial about scratching you can imagine! and there is one thing i can't get!! pls don't call me stupid but what are you guys scratching with??? (the sounds on the vinyl that your hand was on!!!!
i meen, i am a commercial dj at a modest club at a small town so scratching or any kind of a "trick" is not really necessary, plus there isn't anyone that knows so he'll teach you. soz but simple things are not so simple for some!
JohnKapsis1985 2 years ago

If I improvise all the time with my mouth, why not with my hands.
blackdakkon 2 years ago
Exactly my friend. In the right hands the turntable can be a sophisticated instrument, not just a medium to play music. So why not use it to the fullest...

Hey Great tutorial - really useful.
How long did it take you to master the 1click flare?
I'm trying and trying but I still think its sounds like....
1man2turntables 2 years ago
I can't say that I've completely mastered it but its taken me a LONG time to be able to do them at fast speeds. It's definately a technique that can't be rushed so stick with it...

Awesome tutorials, have been using some of these techniques at my residency gig lately and have been turning some heads as I never used to scratch as I am mostly a commercial DJ. May take me a while to get the hang of this one though.

im new to the dj world so i do apologize but can these same effects be done on cdj's?
djtimhudspeth 2 years ago
"Turntablism" naturally originated from the use of turntables which is the ideal medium, but I'm sure there's plenty that can be done on CDJs. Personally I don't use them and don't see the appeal having always been a turntable DJ so I can't really offer advice.
Search YouTube for "DJ Coma" and Pioneer" for an impressive video of him performing a turntablism routine on some CDJ-1000s. He's actually a DMC champion turntablist but proves that many of the same techniques can be done on CDJs...

Once again really helpfull Angelo, It'd be great if you started some beat juggling tutorials aswell, cheers for the time and effort!
Kennard313 2 years ago
I will be starting some beat juggling tutorials soon but I'm trying to do these vids in a certain logical order, especially for the benefit of all beginners. So 2-Click Flare and Crab to follow, then hopefully start on beat juggling. Thanks for your support and understanding...
