  • You can find it on the album "swing set"

  • ooo, anyone know where i can download this track, i cant find this version on any of her albums :(

  • Ani sings this second best. Phil Ochs sang it the best and long may he rest in peace. I miss you so much Phil and I am glad to see other arists have realized how wonderful and talented he was.

  • Dylan seems like a douche bag with the ego the size of his bank account, so I doubt that very much.

  • I really appreciate the footage from "Steal This Movie" here in this video.

Abbie, and Phil are two major heros of mine along with Dorothy Day and UU Bruce Phillips.

    cheers,

    marco

  • God bless you Phil my beautiful friend. Also, RIP Abbie Hoffmann. Never to be forgotten. Fuck Bush and his murdering fascist pig-cunts.

  • yes, and also the best argument for atheism i've ever heard.

  • RIght on arsepoetica71 ... Phil's music is so much better than Dylan's and only slowing (but relentlessly) being recognized so.

  • RIP Phil Ochs...one of the great forgotten geniuses of music...so much better than Dylan...and I think Dylan would agree.

  • @arsepoetica71 no he wouldn't.

I'll never knock ochs, but he's nowhere near as prolific as Dylan.

  • @bbear8 Well, killing oneself at 35 kinda stops one's songwriting ability, don't it?

  • @arsepoetica71 What? well perhaps you can ask Dylan when you get the chance. I like Phil but why even compare? In fact why compare Dylan to anyone? there simply is no comparison.

  • @arsepoetica71 Sorry... I'm super interested in this time and all this music and I know that Dylan didn't agree. Dylan pretty much thought he was the shit and shat all over Phil and his music. Phil always looked up to him and Dylan burned him.

But I agree, he's amazing. For me Dylan is a better poet and Phil's attributes are much more far reaching then simply his music.

  • stunning! bless Ani Di Franco, and Phil Ochs for writing a beautiful song!

  • great version of one of the greatest singer/song writers' songs.

  • is the movie called "steal this movie" ? I love that song and i love anis voice, she is my inspiration for making music...

    thx

  • This song gives me shivers... <3

  • Phil Ochs=true American hero.

  • nice!!!!

  • Gracias por esta música

  • love this

  • The version on swing set is slightly different than this one. Does anybody know where to get the version that we hear here?

  • you choice of audio program > create new file > press record ;)

  • Touching.

  • Bravo!

    Wonderfull voice, and Good Way!

    Thank's

  • /watch?v=V85InmXwjfQ

  • So beautiful, suicide seems comforting. Thats not a dis Ani fans.. If you knew who this was you would know. Its done so well.!!!

  • r u talking bout abbie killing himself, coz thts bullshit, it was the goverment man!

  • I don't have the energy to read through all the comments, but it's entirely possible that whoever you're talking to wasn't talking about Abbie, but about Phil Ochs, who wrote this song and who killed himself in 1976

  • Such an amazing cover by such an amazing woman for such an amazing movie about such an amazing man. <3333

  • amazing movie. didn't mention jerry rubin enough, though.

he played an extremely important role in the yippie movement. (even though Rubin sooooold oooout)

  • Great movie, beautiful song, nice vid. Good job. I'm all snifflie now though.

  • does anyone know where this version of the song came from. I know it's not the album version.

  • It's on one of Difranco's EPs, I believe. You can probably find it on AllMusic -- can't remember the name but it was released around 2000.

  • It is on an EP called Swing Set. :)

  • i used to get laughed at for learning all these phil ochs songs. its great to here someone else knows about him and plays his music. greatest song ever written is "when in rome"( at least top 20)

  • @bhagenbdrinkin I had to laugh at your old comment. There are a million of us out there that think we are the only one who discovered Phil Ochs and saw the beauty and creativity in everything he wrote. We are alone together.

  • wow, so wonderful.

  • is that my favorite actor vincent dionofrio!!??omg, lol, imao!!!jhfc!!!

  • Yes the song also featuers on the soundtrack ( Steal This Movie).

  • yippie!

  • I resemble that remark! g

  • I love this song - the words - the meaning - the stance - the stand - the philosophy. It is how I wish to live my life and I salute all those who stand up for what they believe - those who stand up and are counted.

  • Phil Ochs wrote this song.

  • thank you for this aubscure

  • this song really fits the video.

  • Absolutely amazing song paired with one the best movies out there. REST IN PEACE ABBIE!!

  • That's beautiful!

  • Watched this movie for the first time last night and was very affected by it - a fantastic job by everyone involved. Your video is absolutely brilliant - does justice to the song AND the images.

  • that was great!

  • This is an awesome video

  • what movie is this video from?

  • It is called "steal this movie". The name uses his popular book title "steal this book" as inspiration.

  • don't give up on freedom americans, its up to us

  • i love phil ochs. and i think ani did a nice version. "msbfd" is right; the point of protest songs are to be sung.

  • no

  • drwierd = clown Find another artist to spam!!

  • fehh ... when ani difranco is gone, music can move on from this musical dark age shes created

  • I love almost everything Ani does as well -- but man, that Phil Ochs is one great songwriter! (don't know him but this song's good)

  • moustachke, i've put a few of phil's songs up. check them out. yes, he was a great writer. we could have really used his voice over the last three decades.

  • Sorry, This movie could have been so much better-Ani's version is nice though.

  • I too prefer this one, but I suppose that's because I'm such a sucker for Ani. Love everything she does.

  • This version is great. I prefer this one...

  • i have to agree... but this one isn't all that bad...

  • Why didn't they use the original version by Ochs? It's much better..

  • Ani released a version of this song that is absolutely genius - this isn't it, unfortunately, and this one isn't impressive. I don't know where this one's from. You should hear the one she put out on record.

  • I'd love to. I saw Ani open for Bob Dylan once, and she was phenomenal.

  • cuz the editors, or music director must have felt like he had to 'reach' the age market share target group, with a more contemporary artist. i hope phil dropped cigar ashes on his head for it ;)

  • Perhaps because Phil Ochs is DEAD? Phil would have been the first to tell you protest songs don't do a damn bit of good unless someone SINGS them.

  • Phil's original version was better. And if the filmmakers had used it, they may have drawn more attention to his work. Ochs was/is magnificent.
